The Valsione supposedly looked more like the Valsion it was based off of when Bian first made it but changed it to look how it does here after Lune complained about it looking ugly. At least, that's how I remembered the story went when I played SRW: OG on GBA years ago (so I may be wrong).
Unpopular opinion, but I actually enjoy this art style much more than the other SRW games. I was never really a big fan of the SD designs, unfortunately
I always prefered full scale instead of SD, they probably choose SD for a very long time because is much easier and cheaper to do. Valsione looks amazing in full scale.

Actually Masou Kishin 3's animations were worse in some areas.
Come on, they put a lot of work both in the character drawings and the robot 3D models.
