I always liked the G1 voice for him. Its just a byproduct of the actor but i always felt pain in trypticon's screaming, like he didnt have to capacity to fully understand why he existed and why he was raging and that frustrated him. Hes anguished to be alive
*Can you imagine what it was like for Trypticon in the Aligned Continuity?* Guy was brought to life as a Space Station, finally got a reptilian body when his T-Cog was destroyed, got owned by the Aerialbots and Optimus Prime, was stuck in deep stasis while The Autobots siphoned off his Energon reserves, got forcefully transformed into a space ship by Megatron, was stuck as a space ship for countless years, *FINALLY WOKE UP WHEN MEGATRON PUT DARK ENERGON INTO THE SHIP,* only to find out he was permanently stuck as a space ship for the remainder of his days before the Dark Energon was removed from the ship. The guy may be a mindless killing machine, *but I honestly feel kinda bad for him.*
I loved the parallels between him and Metroplex in the video game. He was forced to become the Nemesis and belittled by Megatron as it happened. Metroplex, meanwhile, willing sacrificed himself and was mourned by Optimus Prime.
Kinda ironic really, Trypticon didn't want to be part of the war well atleast in some universes he didn't want to fight but Megatron didn't care but want him to used as a weapon and ofc turning him into the nemesis.

Great episode as always Chris. In regards to characterization of Trypticon I find Budiansky's take more engaging, a giant rampaging monstrosity who's character is fuelled by self loathing and apathy for the war wouldn't be my initial choice for the character to behave but if done well it really has some advantage in whichever story it's featured in. Not to mention his portrayal in War for Cybertron was a breath of fresh air, a character that's been misused mostly as a "dumb, lumbering giant" to be brilliantly used as the final boss to come off as a pure evil monster mocking the player while trying to take him down enhances how much of a genuine threat he is.
I remember it used to be an accepted thing in fandom that the Japanese dub of Five Faces tried to fix the Scramble City thing (IIRC by saying they were merely repairing him rather than creating him. Not sure how that would have squared with people living in him), this video was the first time I found out that wasn't true, so it's definitely educational for all levels of fan.
To be specific, the Japanese dub uses vague, handwave-y terminology that describes Trypticon as being "revived" or "resurrected," enough to paper over the crack, but not actually resolving the question of what happened to him in-between times!
When you think about it, Dino bots and similar large animal based Transformers are already similar in size to small kaiju but Trypticon is something else. My dude is basically Godzilla Earth of the transformers
I never knew about trypticon. So when I was playing the war and fall of cybertron games and had to escape the space station as it transforms. that was one hell of an entrance for me.

If we look at the win loss record of Trypticon and Metroplex in the cartoons, we could come up with this: Metroplex = 3 wins in Transformers G1 Trypticon = 1 win in Headmasters and 1 in Titans Return

I really hope Trypticon’s G1 profile is explored better in future media. I like the idea of a Decepticon who hates the fact that they were used for war.
It's an odd one, because when I interviewed the writer of that episode years back, he confirmed he was aware of the Nemesis's backstory as the converted Trypticon, but said he *didn't* intend the Nemesis's Dark Energon-induced consciousness to be a reawakened Trypticon. But within the episode itself, one of the screens on the ship briefly displays the image of a new Trypticon robot mode design. So... who knows?
Trypticon is my favorite titan and one of my favorite transformer designs ever. I only wish his original personality of a self-loathing robot would be used in tv or movies. It would send a good message about mental health and self-image

As a massive Kaiju fan growing up I’ve always been fascinated by Trypticon. He was one of the first characters I researched on the wiki. Definitely becoming my favorite Titan. (Despite his weakness to water 😂)
In the transformers prime art book,there was concept art of a kaju-esque decepticon who I can alone assume was for tyrpticon, if they decided to take the concept of the ship being alive further in the show

As a kid I got Trypticon for Christmas one year when I actually wanted Metroplex but I was happy anyway. It was truely one of the best Christmas presents I ever got.

Trypticon was always a fave of mine and became my first ever Convention merch at the Cincinnati Comic Expo in 2018, hes in storage rn with most my old collection but im trying to get him and the rest of my old stuff back.
If I remember right, I think Trypticon also appears in the Japanese NES game based on the Transformers as an end level boss. In the game, you play as Ultra Magnus and I think Trypticon is actually fought more than once. However, based on what I've seen, the game was extremely difficult, and it was pretty lackluster at best.

Did you know that the Brunt figure from Siege is a Weaponizer? With other figures from the War for Cybertron toyline, he can disassemble into weapon implacements and armor for other larger toys. Same has happened for Metroplex's partner Sixgun and Scorponok's partner Fasttrack.
I slagging love Trypticon because of a third party company going to recolour the planet X apocalypse mold in mechagodzilla colours and gave him a fluttershy mini figure as a nod to a removed page in the second season of the my little pony and transformers crossover where Trypticon had a girlfriend the decepticon Jetstream who broke up and was near the sea of rust about to kill himself only found by Megatron who Trypticon tailed swiped him Hard and fluttershy confat him and found out Jetstream cat fished him by going with the autobot combiner Computron

Thanks for this, the only thing I knew about Trypticon was one episode of the original series where Unicron's head coerces somebot (Starscream?) into stealing replacement eyes. Trypticon and Metroplex both get targeted because the idiot breaks one of the eyes and needs to steal a third. It's nice to finally learn something about the Decepticon transforming city.
😮 Okay Trypticon's original profile was new thing for me to know. If I would have to rank 4 og City-bots/Titans, Trypticon would be on first. I'll admit that Trypticon's TR (later fixed release) or 2015 reissue would be neat to have, I really have soft spot for Trypticon's 2006 TF: Classics toy which is first time when Trypticon has official robot mode.
Thanks to this video i learned another reason for Trypticon being my favorite Decepticon, i had not been aware of the fact that he (the toy at least) is the same age as me.

What about gigastorm from beast wars the second. He was a retool of trypticon and could change his size. He was mostly comic relief in the series. I don’t think they ever reference the fact that he looks a lot like trypticon, but everyone who watches the anime would notice the similarities.

City Of Fear is the main reason I love Flywheels. When I saw that he (as Skytread) was being recreated in Siege, I had to get him. And that triggered my return to Transformers collecting after nearly 30 years.

A couple months after this episode. He was fully introduced into transformers earth wars as a part of your base. But you had to be Hq 17 and comeplete his campaign to unlock him. And skorponok was added later
In America, kaiju stomp on city, but in Mother Cybertron cities transform into kaiju. They just stomp around in a big crater. I'm holding out for a Trypticon that can transform into starship. I'm also hoping for a Cobra titan that coils up into the Terrordrome.

Trypticon is my favorite titan. He's currently the only titan I have. I have multiple copies of the comic where Grimlock and the Dinobots drive him off and Grimlock gets crowned leader of the Autobots at the end. I hated facing him in the War for Cybertron game, that last fight with him was rough, I died dozens of times to him. I did really like his involvement in the game and being a boss. I also really liked Omega Supreme as a "Firefly" spaceship design.
One thing not mentioned, Trypticon actually made another appearance in a cartoon, Transformers: Cyberverse, as the leader of a group of mercenaries from another world.
The Cybertron games is by far my favorite adaptation of this character, my only problem with him is the problem with size consistency. At first he’s the size of a mountain before and immediately after his transformation but by the time of the final battle he is significantly smaller. I know it has to do with the limits of the consoles at the time, if I remember correctly there were plans to make the final battle arena way larger to accommodate the sheer size of trypticon but was scaled down along with trypticon to keep the game running smoothly
Be cool to see Godzilla fight Trypticon i think it be a fair fight they both are the size of buildings but Trypticon will probably lose cause of Godzilla atomic breath unless cybertronian metal can withstand that type of power

But Omega's too small for him - being a rocket ship. Should be Metroplex as he's an actual city

WFC Trypticon’s life was just tragic
It's been years and years but I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Brad Garret of all people voiced 80s' Trypticon.
Brad Garrett also voiced Hulk Hogan on "Hulk Hogan's rock and wrestling cartoon, Just shows how much older he really is.
I loved that they put him in the games. He was such a hard fight. Those games where so good, it is shame that they stopped after two.

As a kid I got Trypticon for Christmas one year when I actually wanted Metroplex but I was happy anyway. It was truely one of the best Christmas presents I ever got.

Trypticon was always a fave of mine and became my first ever Convention merch at the Cincinnati Comic Expo in 2018, hes in storage rn with most my old collection but im trying to get him and the rest of my old stuff back.
If I remember right, I think Trypticon also appears in the Japanese NES game based on the Transformers as an end level boss. In the game, you play as Ultra Magnus and I think Trypticon is actually fought more than once. However, based on what I've seen, the game was extremely difficult, and it was pretty lackluster at best.
My favorite trypticon story is when my kids used him as a hotel for their calico critters

Did you know that the Brunt figure from Siege is a Weaponizer? With other figures from the War for Cybertron toyline, he can disassemble into weapon implacements and armor for other larger toys. Same has happened for Metroplex's partner Sixgun and Scorponok's partner Fasttrack.
I slagging love Trypticon because of a third party company going to recolour the planet X apocalypse mold in mechagodzilla colours and gave him a fluttershy mini figure as a nod to a removed page in the second season of the my little pony and transformers crossover where Trypticon had a girlfriend the decepticon Jetstream who broke up and was near the sea of rust about to kill himself only found by Megatron who Trypticon tailed swiped him Hard and fluttershy confat him and found out Jetstream cat fished him by going with the autobot combiner Computron

Thanks for this, the only thing I knew about Trypticon was one episode of the original series where Unicron's head coerces somebot (Starscream?) into stealing replacement eyes. Trypticon and Metroplex both get targeted because the idiot breaks one of the eyes and needs to steal a third.
It's nice to finally learn something about the Decepticon transforming city.
😮 Okay Trypticon's original profile was new thing for me to know. If I would have to rank 4 og City-bots/Titans, Trypticon would be on first.
I'll admit that Trypticon's TR (later fixed release) or 2015 reissue would be neat to have, I really have soft spot for Trypticon's 2006 TF: Classics toy which is first time when Trypticon has official robot mode.
Thanks to this video i learned another reason for Trypticon being my favorite Decepticon, i had not been aware of the fact that he (the toy at least) is the same age as me.
Thought the aligned continuity trypticon was given life due to the constant exposure to the dark energon that was being studied upon him
I voted for the Trypticon Toy, ended up buying the Takara Version due to the hip issue...
We loved Aligned Tripticon... just wish he was restored back to his Titan form during the Unicron episodes... imagine Tripticon fighting that giant Unicron Avatar...

In this show, he acted as some sort of mafia boss, leading a group of unaligned transformers that included even Bug bite in an attempt to conquer cybertron by immobilizing its inhabitants, tho its attempts were foiled and in an omage to the original american comic book he was defeated by the dinobots, tho this time they used their new combined form: volkanicus"
I always thought the name necro for the head was also a reference to the IDW comics character the necrobot/mortilus, being the one who supposedly created him
What about gigastorm from beast wars the second. He was a retool of trypticon and could change his size. He was mostly comic relief in the series. I don’t think they ever reference the fact that he looks a lot like trypticon, but everyone who watches the anime would notice the similarities.

City Of Fear is the main reason I love Flywheels. When I saw that he (as Skytread) was being recreated in Siege, I had to get him. And that triggered my return to Transformers collecting after nearly 30 years.

A couple months after this episode. He was fully introduced into transformers earth wars as a part of your base. But you had to be Hq 17 and comeplete his campaign to unlock him. And skorponok was added later

In America, kaiju stomp on city, but in Mother Cybertron cities transform into kaiju. They just stomp around in a big crater.
I'm holding out for a Trypticon that can transform into starship. I'm also hoping for a Cobra titan that coils up into the Terrordrome.

Trypticon is my favorite titan. He's currently the only titan I have. I have multiple copies of the comic where Grimlock and the Dinobots drive him off and Grimlock gets crowned leader of the Autobots at the end. I hated facing him in the War for Cybertron game, that last fight with him was rough, I died dozens of times to him. I did really like his involvement in the game and being a boss. I also really liked Omega Supreme as a "Firefly" spaceship design.
One thing not mentioned, Trypticon actually made another appearance in a cartoon, Transformers: Cyberverse, as the leader of a group of mercenaries from another world.

The Cybertron games is by far my favorite adaptation of this character, my only problem with him is the problem with size consistency. At first he’s the size of a mountain before and immediately after his transformation but by the time of the final battle he is significantly smaller. I know it has to do with the limits of the consoles at the time, if I remember correctly there were plans to make the final battle arena way larger to accommodate the sheer size of trypticon but was scaled down along with trypticon to keep the game running smoothly
Be cool to see Godzilla fight Trypticon i think it be a fair fight they both are the size of buildings but Trypticon will probably lose cause of Godzilla atomic breath unless cybertronian metal can withstand that type of power
