One popular theory is that the whole video is a coming-of-age story. To be specific, it's about a relationship between a k-pop group and their fans.
The protagonist symbolizes the fans. Her name is "Ban Heesoo" which is a play of words of "Bunnies" (the name of NewJeans fandom.)
NewJeans used to be a big part of her life. Actually, she was addicted to them to the point where her classmates thought she's weird.
However, as she grew older, she found "more important" things in life. (Scenes such as choosing the boy over NewJeans, ignoring phone calls from Minji etc. I believe the deer represents NewJeans.)
NewJeans became one of her childhood memories and all those memories are inside a small dusty box.
Revisiting the past brings back the joy of the good times.

She's imagining them. Side B she encounter them at night dancing, and she looked at her cast. So she probably imagined them as her friends because she was maybe envious of them having fun together.
Or my theory is that this is a form of coping of the lost of her friends. She has a cast, the deer is probably a Bambi reference, and the way the girl acted as if no one was around her excepther friends. Almost as if she's ignoring everyone around her. The ending transition of NewJeans threw me off, but it makes sense.
Hybe really said we bouta have all the supernatural. Time travelers? We got it! Werewolves? We got it! Vampires?? We got it!!! Ghost?! WE GOT IT!!

No, they are 'idols' for that lonely girl. So imaginary ones- as she grows, she leaves the group. And the final scene of B means the girl became a woman and recalls the new jeans.
In the story the girls were dead. Someone said that they and the girl filming were in an accident, and film girl was the only one who survived hence the cast. In reality, she was filming no one which is why she was getting strange looks. Either she imagined them or they were ghosts who were worried about her coz they write a heart and 'don't die' on her cast. The guy was a love interest who helps her move on. In the end, she watches a tape that was actually a part of her reality coz it was filmed before the girls died. People says the deer has some spiritual significance or is related on the passing if a loved one. I guess she rewatched the tape in the end coz she believes they're still with her even tho she moved on. This was what I've gathered from other comments.
Another thing I noticed. Film girl painted Minji's(?) nails but when she woke up, it was her nails that was painted... And her cast was also clean.
Another Edit: I think the order of watching this was indeed like how Bris did. Someone said Side B was released 10 mins(?) earlier than Side A so... 🤔

the name of the girl with camcorder is Ban Hee Soo, which comes from Bun-nie-s, the fandom name of NewJeans. you can easily inteprete this MV with this hint. this song is about the relationship between NewJeans, its fans and their lives. someday, the passion toward NewJeans of its fans will dwindle and disappear like depicted in this MV and their lives will go on with real love(the guy in MV)

I think I get this, and here is my theory. Heesoo and newjeans were best friends, they six were always together. Newjeans liked to dance, and Heesoo always did the filming work for them. But one day an terrible accident happened, newjeans the five girls didn't survive, only Heesoo survived and had her arm injured. Since that day, Heesoo went back to school on her own but always watching everything through that video recorder, because inside that recorder, she could still see her five friends talking and playing with her at school, and other classmates thought Heesoo is getting weird and crazy. At the end of the story, Heesoo grows up, and she can finally move on, but when she watched the old video of her five friends, she feels like it was just yesterday. 💔
actually i didn't think that at all but it makes sense. I thought newjeans is newjeans and the protagonist is meant to be us (the fans). The song is called ditto which means same. LIke if i say "i want a mango smoothie" and you say "ditto", you are asking for the same thing. So the lyrics keep reiterating this idea of that "We are newjeans and we love you, our fans", but do you love us too? the lyrics, "Do you think about me now? Yeah" and "say it back, oh, say it ditto". "Stay in the middle, Like you a little," is their insecurity and so " Don't want no riddle" is them asking do you love us, etc. And so i thought they were portraying that they feel that insecurity much like you do when you have a crush, thus why the protagonist and the boy are this video. Like when you have a crush its really unbearable to be left is suspense or wonder if they like you back. So in a way newjeans is "confessing" their love and respect to their fans and want to know if we love them too. "oh say it ditto"!

Park Jihu who played Onjo in ‘All of us are dead’ was a guest cameo in newjeans ‘DITTO’ MVs. Maybe she was bullied and started imagining the girls being there to get away from reality and Choi Hyunwook noticed something was off.

INFORMATION: The movie that this MV is presumed to be a reference to (I used a translator because my English was bad.)
First of all, all interpretation is basically individual freedom. I'm just writing down what the motif of this MV is for those who are curious.
Perhaps this MV brings a lot of references from the classic 90-00s horror film '여고괴담(女高怪談, Whispering Corridors)' in Korea.
The Girl's High School Ghost Story(a literal translation of a 여고괴담)is a series of movies, and in this MV, the atmosphere and emotions of the first and second episodes of the Girl's High School Ghost Story are felt a lot.
series 1: 여고괴담1(1998)(女高怪談, Whispering Corridors)
series 2: 여고괴담2(1999)(Memento Mori)
For your information, rather than focusing on horror, this series focuses on psychological descriptions and anxious atmospheres of adolescent girls such as anxious psychology, relationships, stress and anxiety caused by schoolwork, and although ghosts come out, there are not many cruel or disgusting directions. So people who can't watch horror movies can watch it without any burden.
(And as with many other series of movies, up to the third one was fine, but then the movie gets a little ruined. So if you want to watch it, I recommend that you only watch the previous series.)
Then, why did PD Min Hee-jin use this movie as a reference among the many Y2K elements?
I thought about it. That's our "school life as teenagers wasn't always happy."
Perhaps most people have stress behind their friendship with friends because of uncertainty in their relationship, anxiety about grade management, and various other reasons, so school life was a happy and sad, fun but terrible place. That movie looks at school from this 'adolescent point of view' like this 'love and hate'. Also, that movie is a representative work that focuses on girls' stories better than other movies from the 90s. (In Korea, it is very symbolic and famous in many ways.)
And in fact, many Koreans thought of "여고괴담 girls' high school ghost stories" while watching this music video, and if you look at the MV's Korean comments on the NewJeans channel, you will be able to easily find references to "여고괴담 girls' high school ghost stories."
(So did I. I was born in the '90s. I'm the one who's seen all the works mentioned above. And now this music video is surprisingly similar in mood and content to that horror movie.)
There are many other reasons, but for these reasons, I think PD Min Hee-jin chose this movie as the main reference and directed the MV.

I have 2 theories for this MV
1/ Maybe the girl filming was bullied or she is autistic, and all NJs members were just her imagination because she always wanted a group of friends like that. But then she accepted her true self and she decided to move on (she dropped the camera and the guy helped her to move on).
2/ The girls were dead and the girl filming was the only one who survived. She always remembered her friends but in the end she decided to move on to a better future.
The deer has some spiritual significance (you guys can search “when a deer stares at you spiritual meaning” on Google) and one of the primary symbols is protection. NJs members were her protectors and they were there for her during the most difficult period.
The sixth person is the their fans, bunnies. So it shows how much NewJeans has become part of their fans without actually ever be there in real life with them.

I was recommended Side B first too, and I agree that that was a better way to watch the MVs

Hee-soo means Bunnies, the fandom of New Jeans, and most fans can only get in touch with the singer through media (ex. the camcorder that Hee-soo keeps carrying in the music video), as shown in the video. Fans and singers are always difficult to be together in reality, but singers are always there, and sometimes people look at fans who follow singers in a strange way. I think it is. Haha Fans and singers who have always been together like that, as time goes by, the fans start to focus on other things in reality, and the distance in their hearts (I think this is expressed as a deer in the middle) will become farther away, and later on, the fans This situation of leaving will eventually come, but looking back over time, it seems to mean that during school days, the ones we were always with were our favorite idols at the time, and those idols were always in place.
This makes me cry so much and is sad because this happened in real life and she was very really lonely.

I agree. Newjeans music style is very similar to American music aka pop. And pop is very popular at uk and japan. So if they promote newjeans there a lot of people are gonna like them. And the girls deserve it! I hope hybe is thinking about this.

I was very sad with the end of the clip, but I loved it, it was beautiful, and the music is good.
mix with side B, i think these girls were like the imaginary friends. the cam girl was enjoy playing with them, but other people thought shes strange made her felt embarrassed, so she left them and went live her life normal way having a boyfriend and such. the fawn was like her innocent side, left her when she decided to "grow up".
and i think watch side A first is better cuz i wasnt expecting this at all, so i realized they not really there i immediately tear up... the shock.
If you freeze it at 6:47, after finishing the red heart her hand lifts to reveal 죽지마!! or “Don’t die!!” written on the cast.
Just another creepy touch that gives a slight horror vibe to the mv.

Ditto and omg is prob 2 of the best quality kpop mv ever debuted. They both have a story to tell and at the same time, they neglect eachother. Ditto came out before omg but if u look closely, they were doing the "omg" dance in Ditto. Pretty sure no one expected that the choreography in Ditto with be their next song. NewJeans concept is a throwback to late 90's to early 2000's, hence the instrumentals sounds like a house/rave music mixed with mellow vocals.

The best theory for me is the whole story gives us a side of bullying at school. The girl with the camera is the victim. She is a quiet kid and it seems like everyone in the class thinks that she is a weird person. They abandon and ignore her. You can see that she gets hurt too. Because she can’t make friend with anyone so she created her friends ( Newjeans) in her imagination. In side B they showed that she tried to get the imaginated friends out of her head and be with that boy. It’s like she realised that she has been fooled by herself for the whole time
I haven't watch Side B cause this is the first vid I watched with "Ditto" and it's your reaction. Just predicting Side B is the alternate universe where the camcorder girl is the ghost and New Jeans are the real ones.

That camera girl representing Min Hee Jin (NewJeans's Godfather/Maker). Her dream was making and producing a girl group and she was dreaming about this before and the MV shows it.
This is a fan song of New Gins. The sixth girl took a video of the new gins that became a ray of light in her depressed school days as a fan, but as time passed and she got older, she forgot about them. But she still have happy memories about singers and actors that I liked in school

My only theory is that it is her older at the end of side B/beginning of side A re watching videos from her past. But while most of the time Nostalgia is shown as a happy thing this video shows that it can also be said when you really miss those times. She's imagining herself in all of these situations just like when she was younger. It also further supports that their concept is based on Nostalgia. (Idk if that explains why NewJeans wasn't really there and it seems like she imagined them but it's the best I got😭 maybe it's because she's no longer in contact with her old friends? That can support sad Nostalgia.)
I agree 100% that they already have a sound tho. This video was beautifully made, the song is also gorgeous. They seem like they really have fun. I wouldn't be surprised if they start a trend with calmer title tracks/pre releases and more of this concept.

It turns out that I was the sixth member of newjeans, but I was always a recorder. I always felt that I didn't fit in. So I smashed the camera recording of other people's beautiful youth and unreached first love. The deer in my heart fled from youth and to grow up quickly and become a group of adults with regrets again
