    Lotus is also why Excel considers 1900 a leap year incorrectly.

      AI sound is so bad that people are starting to think any audio artifict is AI.
      WTF how does an OpenAI company with billions don't have any audio engineers or even telephony engineers, you're literally making the bot talk over VOIP. I'm baffled.

    MacOS, up to and including version 9, was a pile of rubbish. Not the way it presented itself, which was good, but the wat it was written. That's why it couldn't be ported to other architectures. It couldn't even do pre-emptive multi-tasking.
    MacOS X is based on Unix/FreeBSD, and therefore so much better.

      It surely wasn’t so bad compared to other microcomputer OSes of the first half of the ‘80s. The big problem was that it took Apple so long to replace. (That management volatility in 1985 had a lot to do with that.)

    • @SeverityOne
      @SeverityOne 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@leocomerford No, actually, it was that bad. Don't be fooled by the way it looked. You could just be browsing the web, and all of a sudden your entire Mac would crash (the bombs on the screen). This is from personal experience, and would never happen with Windows 95 - not exactly the most stable version of Windows either.
      A friend of mine once went through the code of the OS, and in the part where the floppy was read, and there was code to check if something had come in on the serial port. MacOS before X was very badly written, and essentially impossible to fix afterwards without breaking existing software.
      Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista/8/10/11, and MacOS X, are written on solid kernels, and don't have all the problems of Windows 95/98/ME and classic MacOS.

    As a Classic MacOS user, I'm glad they didn't license it out. Apple was great because it was able to carve out it's corner of creativity back in the day. Licensing MacOS out would've just turned Apple into a money-focused company who was more interested in appealing to everyone (and failing) versus focusing on its core creative audience.
    In fact, it probably would've just turned Apple into what it currently is, only sooner.

      Macintosh was outrageously overpriced back in the day. Apple has always been money focused, since they started selling Apple I boards for 666, or Blue Boxes designed by Crunchman. But with the Macintosh and the Lasarwriter, they really gouged the heck out of the market. They were the Ferrari F40's of their day.

      @@choppergirl Yep, unbelievably Macintoshs were so expensive, only the affluent back then could afford them... the top 10%.
      I stole my first Macintosh and it was akin to getting ahold of the Holy Grail, or Stealing Elanor in Gone in 60 Seconds, or stealing a rare painting from a museum. Like the old hackers that got access to the Mainframes behind glass doors... the Macintosh was a unicorn only touchable by the rich.
      Now that same Macintosh isn't worth 5 bucks...

      You are aware that Apple *did* license out Mac OS during the classic era, from late System 6 to Mac OS 8.5?
      There are dozens of licensed clones out there, but nobody bought them because classic Mac's were awful computers in their time.

    • @choppergirl
      @choppergirl หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AiOinc1 I know, I have three StarMacs out of about 30 Macs. They were free, so they were actually pretty nice considering you can connect a PC mouse, keyboard, and SVGA monitor up to them instead of Apples proprietary grrbage.
      What wasn't nice about them was that grrbage PowerPC chip having to run all 100% of my games and applications... an entire Software Etc store Macintosh software section I had pirated... all 68K code entirely... emulated.
      Fortunatly, I never ran them more than a few boots... having a better PowerMac 9600 that was also free... but I didn't even use that for more than to archive my entire collection into a time capsule on it... as I had already jumped ship to Windows and PC and Linux by then.
      I still have the 9600 on my shelf here as a time capsule software repository with 5 SCSI drives I put into it.... I haven't booted it... since... I want to say, the late 1990's. Hopefully the battery is inert in it and not leaking, as I have no interest to bother checking... on any of them, for that matter.
      I left Macintosh and Apple at System 7.5.3 when they scr3wed us all by switching to a unix underpinnning and PowerPC.... that burned all our buns and the old die hard Mac evangalists like me were furious about it and left.

      Definitely unpopular opinion, but IMO Apple today is better than Apple in 1980s.
