It is called SpectraChrome. It is a system you can get on Amazon for about 1500 dollars. It works by using a torch to heat up the project, then they use water to help the activator stick, then apply more water to make the chrome paint smoother, then they apply the chrome, then more water, then clear coat, then more water. As you can tell, they like water -_-
That's crazy, it's just running down the door in rivers, and the other guy hosing it down just left me with my jaw hanging open. I've never seen anything like that in painting in 48 yrs. And it looks incredible too. WOW!!!!!!
So I'm pretty sure chrome goes on black then they do a chemical etch of some sort. I looked up the process and it always starts black. Then they spray an activator rinse it with water then another activator which turns chrome. After that they spray a silver sealer and let it dry.
Silver nitrate is sprayed on the car, then followed by SALT WATER (NaCl), the result is a double replacement reaction which produces AgCl (Solid silver coating) and NaNO3, so this is SILVER PLATING technique rather than chrome plating.
It is a chroming system you can get on amazon for 1500 dollars. They use a torch to heat up the project they are painting then use water so the activator will stick better, then they use silver nitrate to chrome it then spray a deep coat of water again then clear coat it.
Alsa Corp has quite a few different chrome painting systems in Vernon CA. I've been using they're solvent based and waterborne chormec painting ystems for years. In this application, everything is waterbase, they're just using water, ammonia and silver nitrate, the dust masks they're using are quite adequate. However, silver nitrate is definitley a hazmat and the runoff should be dealt with accordingly.I remember reading that the silver nitrate will completely ruin a septic tank
I read about it on wikipedia, and it said the same stuff that rokdevil said, non-harmful at low levels, and has been used for years for various medical treatments. It is harmful at higher levels or prolonged exposure, but I don't think that this 5 minute painting session counts as prolonged exposure.
This is the same concept of how mirrors are made. There is a video on How It's Made about mirrors and they spray on everything as well. Start out with clear glass and start spraying.
It's actually like making a mirror as they're probably using the same chemicals. So I imagine you'd just clear it and call it good. Just like a normal paint job.

That door is going to burn the skin off somebody's hand. Chrome is the spot on your car where you're most likely to burn yourself because while it has high reflectivity, it also has extremely low emissivity. This means that the heat from the sun will build up in the metal substrate until it's much hotter than metal with a conventionally painted surface. One reason why very few cars have ever had chrome or stainless steel plates protecting the paint near the door windows where an arm or elbow would rest while driving.
How does this system differ from the other two leading sray chrome companies. What's better about this system? I see you spray water just after your spray the chrome spray unlike the other systems that do it step by step.
Hi i have a couple of questions. I own " HYDROGRAPHIC WORKX " and was last week introduced to hydrochrome, after buying a hydrographic printer of a dude that had gone from doing hydrographics to hydrochrome. So seeing how easy it looked straight away knew i was going to expand my business,And im about to order a full set up, whilst i was at this dudes workshop i asked him a few questions about the hydrochrome .However he was like " IM NOT TELLING YOU TO MUCH " even though id travelled for over 2hrs to get the printer,so there would be no chance of me taking his customers..On seeing the items he had just chromed i thought sraight away being a car painter for 28yrs thought. The prepping process has to be the same as sparaying a car say, where as you would take the shine off the original paint then 2k filler prime the car then flat the 2k primer smooth then apply the colour and then clear coat. However is this the same with all materials as i watched a toilet being hydrochromed,so would i be right in saying there is a product on the market that keys pottery, like plastic primer as the product i use is clear and i can paint straight over the top of it if i wished to.i never do though i always apply 2k fillerprimer on any paint work i do.The hydrochrome system im about to buy is from these guys customcreationpaints.co.uk/ has anyone used the product there selling and is it top quality,if not can someone point me in the right direction as to where i can buy the set up from.. i also buy accident damaged cars and repair them to keep me busy when im quiet on the hydrographics,so know that im going to be itching to get a car in my paint booth within a couple of weeks to hydrochrome it ,then paint a candy colour clear coat over the top or illusion paint haha. Thanks for taking the time to read my post and any help as to what to watch out for and best way to achieve the best results
Mekki Plating. This has been around for many years. 20 years ago I purchased a small setup from spectra chrome. They do habe a clear coat that lays down very well. Its all about the prep. Its not as easy as you make it look!! Yeah as far as the bandana yes cause the first drop of sweat that hits the pice, you are going to be redoing it all over. To completely do that door with the door jams you would've need another two guys. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Just don't mislead people. The system looks great But doesn't last as long as paint and no where near the quality as real chrome. And another thing it will stain the shit out of you for days...Lmmfao!!. But good video of the two guys they was insink with each other. But to do the door with the jams it they would've need more help. I'm sure the jams had the brown stains going on. Lol...good demonstration....
Show us the clear coat process. Show us how the clear doesn't blush or how the silver nitrate doesn't turn gold after a month in the sun. Show us 1 month, 6 months, a year down the road. It doesn't hold up folks...
Kustom Krome your are right to an extent. If you buy from many of the suppliers and use their products the way they say. You will have no luck. I've tried base/silver/clear from most the suppliers nation wide. I've been doing the silver nitrate process for 3 years now. It took 2 years of R+D and with the many years of coating experience me and my dad have. We have figured out how to get it to work AND last. Are earlier work has turned. No good. We learned more and more and more. And are still learning. But within the last year. I believe we got it. The only product we use that comes from chrome paint suppliers is the silver. BUT... if we start having problems after what we've learned. I'll give up. Because I've done almost everything I know to do. We have many customers now. That are businesses that tried this process and lost trend of thousands. Now they bring to us. It can be a decent finish IF done right.
Kustom Krome Why would they use silver nitrate? They are using chrome dissolved in an electrolyte that when comes into contact with the positive charge of the treated door comes out of solution and plates the door (electroplating)
Very nice finish, but is this really chrome? It appears to be a silver metallized surface. The combination of two solutions through the nozzle at 0:45 looks like a silver solution with a reducer. I don't think there is an ounce of chrome in there...correct me if I'm wrong of course.
As long as the "painters" use proper protection (NOT like in this video) AND the process is done in a closed, controlled environment AND the left-over chemical is either reused (if possible) or else DISCARDED OF PROPERLY AND a good,well-isolating coat is applied over that would prevent any leakage of the chemical from the car,THEN,yes, maybe then this would be a well-done and environmentaly-friendly proccess. But then again, there's a lot of "IFs" in the equation..
greetings :) what is the black colour you sprayed as a base coat , ? is that varnish/lacquer or another thing ? and is this colour (black) is important before chroming , or I can chrome without it directly or by any colour ? thank you :)
The only real difficulty with chroming a car is that you have to have very, very smooth paint underneath it all. The smoothness of standard car paint is inadequate and any surface ripples will become immediately apparent. Factor in more than a dozen hours worth of labor in color-sanding alone just to prepare the surface for spraying.
Safety precautions here are a joke and this is why Unions need to be active and check on work places constantly. Minimum safety should be full body covering, a full face mask with separate filtered air supply, protective gloves and shoe coverings. The booth should also be a sealed unit and and have an exhaust fan so the pressure inside the booth is lower than outside preventing any fumes or spray material escaping the booth to affect other workers.
Wow. That looks awesome. How does it hold up on a Car? Does it dull, chip or tarnish over time? The two things that I hate to see go away for automobiles. Chrome/Bumpers and Whitewall Tires.Especially on Cadillacs.
Simply amazing and beautiful.I have a couple questions.Does it have to be applied to a black painted surface,or can it done over other colors or even bare metal?Does the base paint have to be scuffed first for adhesion? How can the silver stick to the door when the door is wet with water? It seems it would just wipe away like paint does when you have water in the spray gun. Thanks for the interesting video!
i wonder if you coat it with clear would it fade much. or would the clear stick one day your using a pressure washer and boom there goes your clear. i like the idea its great
Nice work! Getting my A/C compressor and alternator done in this stuff (or same idea, cosmichrome), bling!!! Can't wait to get them back and installed.
Where exactly do you read that silver nitrate is lethal or carcinogenic? I suppose you could say its lethal in large doses, sort of like oxygen. However, its been used for many medical issues, from warts to disinfection.
Bad was, looks like it doesn't take alot at spraying knowledge with how they got it dripping off the door . And no runs . Amazing .. I would like to see the bottom of the door
Nice job on the door! I've seen a lot of dual head guns spraying activated silver and silver reducer, but what is the extra gun head for? Is the third gun head spraying the tin?
Can anyone tell me if Silver is the only plating color available ? What if I want to do my grill and other accents inn a proper GUNMETAL PLATING? Can that be done at your shop? Where are you located? How much would it cost for GUNMETAL PLATING JUST A GRILL? I'd be very interested and know one hell of a lot of customers that have been looking for a quality plating company . There really aren't many at all in Wilmington NC. Thanks in advance for advice, suggestions and information you can provide me. Plus, can you plate plastic parts. I know hundreds of people that would be very interested in Color Plating their Quadcopter s or Drones? Please let me know as soon as it's convenient for you? Thanks. Wm. ~
@mikldude In general lasts like a normal car paint.....but is sensible to scratches since you can not just polish it, you migh need to remake the whole part.

Hi could you tell the formula of this tecknology . Thanks if you tell you make me back to life becuase realy in need this becuase i cant work with another fake formula . Thanks again
This really isn't a chrome plating process. What you are looking at is the same thing mirror manufactors use to put the reflective coating that goes behind the glass in the mirror. The shiney material sticks to the product, the run off you see is water. It's a three step process. With nice results.
Betcha this shit won't even come close to lasting as long as a mirror....1 season if you're lucky,I am Guessing, but i also know plating's around a hundred years old,and i know what's required before a part goes anywhere Near a tank
I have been searching literally for weeks simply to buy a chrome paint JUST THE PAINTS AND SOLUTIONS NEEDED to paint my porsche 928 ALL I CAN FIND of huge packages way more then i need and or the equipment with it I JUST WANT THE PAINT and just enough to paint my car chrome were in gods name can i buy that without having to dish out thousands of dollars for stuff i dont need and wont use?
Just wondering, are you guys spraying two different substances that have some sort of catalyst effect. It seems as though you are both following each other as you spray.

As far as I am concerned this is magic.
Do It With Dan Watcha doin' here? Going for full chrome on your CBR1000? xD
FUCKS NO
Do It With Dan you sure? :D
I would be blind lol
hahaha Dan

This brings a new meaning to mirror finish.
Its water. The paint is temperatured to cold or warm which makes it change.
do u think that bandana kept him from chrome , plating his lungs
Hologram Ghost that water not paint..so it safe 😉
its a silver nitrate process similar to how you make mirrors
@joseph watson Those guys are Japanese.
It’s not chrome, it’s silver
@@danieleder4863 how you can protact that to not scrach !!
The full chrome is cool, but at 50% with the underlying paint showing through looks the best.
This is the same concept of how mirrors are made. There is a video on How It's Made about mirrors and they spray on everything as well. Start out with clear glass and start spraying.
Will this work on car that's in Black primer?
The procces is almost as mirror making but chemicals are different.
Where I can buy this paint please suggest me
After this process we also apply topcoat and clear coat, so is almost like regular car paint, except scratches.
So calling it chrome is more like a ...Nickname?
It's actually like making a mirror as they're probably using the same chemicals. So I imagine you'd just clear it and call it good. Just like a normal paint job.

metallic horizons are the kings of this type of finishing i think! excellent video and process here as well..

These guys are brilliant. They can work on my car any day.
the problem is the water or snow that can occur a chemical reaction to the chrome layer...and it can turn black.

you have to coat it after this procedure, you can choose a colored finnisch like blue red etc.
Would you guys consider chroming out the inside of a computer case?
I just pictured painting my entire truck with this stuff, that would be so cool!

Should have left it alone after one coat, that dark gunmetal looked badass
I hate all the chrome "Bling" plating. But have to admit this is a pretty impressive process and results.
I think the word "Bling" is ruining the chrome business...Bling...B..Ling.bLing,blinG...yeah,it's gaying shit up for sure Hahahahas
greetings :)
what is the black colour you sprayed as a base coat , ?
is that varnish/lacquer or another thing ?
and is this colour (black) is important before chroming , or I can chrome without it directly or by any colour ?
thank you :)
A PLUS Chrome chrome door and washed a protectant black film off .really no runs.
You got into the chrome business with a spray gun?.....nah,never mind,i don't wanna know

The smoothness of standard car paint is inadequate and any surface ripples will become immediately apparent. Fuck up talking about stuff you heard on pimp my ride, no one needs to hear this.
What prompted this verbal foray? I'm just stating facts about the nature of this method of chroming.
too much sugar
Robert Coffey I smell professionalism, is it worth doing this spray or the wrap thing? I live in sunny region, (too sunny and hot)
So i guess you can use chrome spray paint and water hose? That is 5$
Safety precautions here are a joke and this is why Unions need to be active and check on work places constantly.

how does the chrome stick if the other guy is spraying water on it at the same time
To keep the metal cool. See the two rods that are behind the door? This is a form of electroplating.
This process it really is as easy as you see it in the video, there are other steps you must learn.
The website is not English. I want to buy enough to do 2 full cars and the equipment to do it. Please comment how I can order it.
i wonder if you coat it with clear would it fade much.
or would the clear stick one day your using a pressure washer and boom there goes your clear.
i like the idea its great
Did all that runoff just go into the water system.?
Why yes, yes it did! Now what?
Well that statement is a load of BS. Silver Nitrate is NOT harmless.
Nice work! Getting my A/C compressor and alternator done in this stuff (or same idea, cosmichrome), bling!!!
Can't wait to get them back and installed.
BLING
oH! Hey,did that shit fuck up you compressor and/or alternator
Where exactly do you read that silver nitrate is lethal or carcinogenic? I suppose you could say its lethal in large doses, sort of like oxygen. However, its been used for many medical issues, from warts to disinfection.
it's the internet, someone Had to write it...
Bad was, looks like it doesn't take alot at spraying knowledge with how they got it dripping off the door . And no runs . Amazing .. I would like to see the bottom of the door
So does that mean that its hard to get the same intensity in color if you don't do the car with the exact same volume AgNO3 and salt water?
it comes up nice, but how durable is it, if some accidentally scuffs it can it be polished out?, could you use it on alloy wheels, would it last??
It's like magic, absolutely amazing!
Nice job on the door! I've seen a lot of dual head guns spraying activated silver and silver reducer, but what is the extra gun head for? Is the third gun head spraying the tin?
Silver Nitrate (AgNO3). It won`t harm the person WRONG
1-5 g of silver have accumulated in the body, a condition called argyria can develop.
how long does this last I have heard some people upset that it last's only a few weeks
Can anyone tell me if Silver is the only plating color available ? What if I want to do my grill and other accents inn a proper GUNMETAL PLATING? Can that be done at your shop? Where are you located? Wm. ~
am really interested! around how much will it cost to chrome a whole classic mini cooper?
"Respirators?".."I don't need no stinkin Respirators"!
Now that's funny!
@mikldude In general lasts like a normal car paint.....but is sensible to scratches since you can not just polish it, you migh need to remake the whole part.
I love the look. But curious about upkeep and durability. I'd love to do that to my car if it's durable and easy maintenance.
it is durable
Also with the sun it turns a burned stew color like a blue or orange
Which which meterial you use for chrome painting by spray gun and how much %for mix for ready to colour please suggeat me for crome painting .i am from india
how durable is this??? what if i want to remove it or protect it?
How.long does this coating actually last amd still look good
thats amazing! But is it real chrome or a silver coating that will tarnish?
Hi could you tell the formula of this tecknology . Thanks if you tell you make me back to life becuase realy in need this becuase i cant work with another fake formula . Thanks again
me impacto lo que hicieron..increible resultado...espectacular!!!mis felicitaciones..desde paraguay a toda esa gente..

Why is it,that you hate your car so....
Can this process be done on Plastic? Or only steel?
What if you work alone? Does it need to be rinsed right away otherwise it creates spots everywhere?
looks lush great idea so glad I thought of it first lol .what other techniques are there other than that and water dip ?
esta muy bonito pero que aplicaste barnis o aguao alfinal que le hisiste
Just wondering, are you guys spraying two different substances that have some sort of catalyst effect. It seems as though you are both following each other as you spray.
Oh, is he just washing away excess.
かっこいいですねこの塗装を買ってもらいたいんです、お値段はいくらですか?
These doors in particular are a very water thirsty door, if you do not water these doors, they will reject the chrome spray.
jak nazywa sie ta piosenka od początku tego filmu,.?
Looks great, but what about the plastics parts like bumpers?
dude why are they spraying the salt water for? I mean is the Silver nitrate that bad?
So there's a guy who sprays the plating, and the other guy seems to spray water on it. What's the water for?
We use to use silver nitrate to burn off warts in the Army. Pretty corrosive that's for sure.
how durable is this paint,or what is it? Great work, best regards
The process is amazing,
But, can't help thinking the process was rushed, and will make the finished job not as good as it should be.
Yes, we use water too....but not only water :)
I want to paint my scooter, please give me the details for buying the paint, please reply.....
how do you do this i am very interested
what are the products called
How resilient is this stuff ? And does it need a Clear coat for protection?
If you don't apply clear coat, then it can be wiped off with your hand touch.
Yosi: elyoss@gmail.com
