Pattinson for me did something I didn’t think he could. He talked with only his eyes. His facial reactions and eyes are so Batmanesque. Like when he’s talking with Gordon about Kenzie being a dirty cop you can see him analyzing his entire character with only a glance. His Batman feels so real
I think what's cool about Battinson is you can see his body language as Bruce and as Batman. Esp in the funeral scene where Bruce appears in public you can see how awkward and reclusive he feels but when he's in the suit he suddenly has this imposing, confident, threatening posture like when he just walks casually through the Iceberg Lounge. It really gives you the idea of how comfortable he feels in the batsuit
Amazing point! You really get the sense that he feels a sense of violent peace when he's in the suit (which was fantastic!). When he's "Bruce" in public, there has to be a sense of feeling exposed. Even more so with him having to live in a world of potential bodily harm all the time.
Why did I not put that together? That's such a great observation. I'm so used to the 'Bruce Wayne' personas being a reverse alter-ego. The fact that Battinson is uncomfortable being anything other than Batman is such a great idea that Pattinson really pulls off. .....Batfleck is still my favorite though lol. But Pattinson is a close second!!

What I really liked about Battinson is the fact that Matt Reeves put the main character in front and center of the story. Instead of things happening around him and him trying to stop the bad guys, this Batman is on the receving end. This is actually a character arc where he finds his place in the story even if he fails to stop the Riddler, the incidents force him to realize his true calling.
Yes, I agree completely, Pattinson's performance is all about playing that boy that lost his parents in that alley. Actually Pattinson spoke on interviews that is the way he played it and how he thinks the character relives that pain over and over again every night he goes out to punish criminals and he is so scared that the Batman would be taken away from him and he would be unmasked, you can tell in the scene with the Riddler, he is so scared he will lose that. Just as terrified as he is when he thought he lost Alfred. I like Bale too, and he was a great Batman with what he was given, but the writing was not focused on Batman in TDK and TDKR
Robert Pattinson never phones it in. He uses every cel of his body to act. He creates a different walk for every role he plays. Longtime fans know what he walks like in real life and you never see him walking as himself in a film. I don't know if anyone noticed, but when he gets up in the bat cave after Alfred tells him to go take a shower, his walk as Bruce is totally different than his walk as The Batman. Totally different. That wasn't an accident. He decided Bruce moves differently than The Batman moves. Most actors would never think about this and just walk the way they normally walk, but he never does. He's also never used his own voice/accent in any film. He's a master of voice work. Lots of people don't even know he's British, he does such flawless American accents.
What I really like about Robert Pattinson is that he has a genuine love and interest for acting. He isn't into the fame, fortune and the publicity. He just wants to act and leave. Not that people shouldn't like it, its just a rarity when you see many big name actors essentially play themselves.
Just watched The Batman for the first time last night. A life long avid Batman fanatic, I have to agree whole heartedly! And, as I texted my dad (sorry Bruce) when I left the theater: "I think this is the Batman we've been waiting for"
I love Robert Pattinsons Batman, I feel like his movies are more of an origin story for Bruce Wayne, and we get to watch him figure out who he is when he isn't wearing the cape.

Robert Pattinson is as close as we’ll get to the definitive Batman which is Kevin Conroy. He’s also the only Batman that didn’t find loopholes for the no kill rule. Bale killed two face, Affleck killed and Keaton straight up murdered joker and a lot of goons. Also its clear that this bruce sees Batman as the real him, so his Bruce persona he will eventually create will be a mask, whereas with Bale like Greg and John said that Bruce doesn’t see Batman as the real him. Kevin Conroy said it best Batman is the real guy and Bruce Wayne is just a disguise he puts on.
The best thing about Robert Pattinson’s Batman is that he literally strikes fear into the people of Gotham. Like when you see the shadows in the street you go like- dude i need to get out of here, it might me Batman. The criminals panic! I did not expect to like him at all in the role, but when I got home from the cinema the first thing that I wrote was that I had just seen the best live-action Batman I had ever seen. Such an impressive accomplishment. Those eyes.
@@creativeperson5858 I had no knowledge of his other films except for Twilight...I saw as much of that as I could stomach. I steered clear of him as an actor after that. That added to the early photos of him in emo Batman eye shadow... I thought that this was going to be a 'YA' version of the hero. Which wouldn't be my thing. Then I saw the trailer and I thought okay I'd give it a go. Very glad that I did.
I do see a line between Batman and Bruce Wayne with Robert Pattinson. This is because when he is out in public and he’s Bruce Wayne, I do see his shyness and antisocial behavior but when he’s Batman he lets loose and lets his emotions run wild.
Excatly Pattinson's batman felt really vulnerable and innocent in his prespective of morality, kinda weird but I found his interpretation more endearing than scary tbh
One thing I noticed is that Robert Pattinsons batman someone who is noticed and has all the attention but doesn't want it, he doesn't want to be seen as bruce wayne someone who is doing nothing he just wants to be batman and have a impact to set gotham toward a bright future and make sure nobody lives the life he did. However riddler is someone who has no attention and wants all of it, he wants his name to be known and he doesn't necessarily have hope for gotham he want's to restart it by washing it clean and for him to be known as the savior the man who did everything so nobody could live the life he did. They are both misguided children set out to do the same thing just with different intentions on how they would carry it out.

Robert Pattinson is now my favorite Batman for so many reasons and every time I have watched The Batman I just can’t believe what Matt Reeves did giving us a Batman about Batman and we see Batman being Batman 90’s of the movie, Robert Pattinson was just phenomenal in this role and he also was able to play this character while just talking and emoting his thoughts and feelings with just his eyes! I loved it, so go see it if you haven’t and if you have go see it again and support this movie while it’s in theaters, it needs to be seen on the big screen!!! Loved it!
I might be biased but Pattinson is my favorite batman by a longshot..... I never really liked any of the other batmans. There stories were great and the other aspects within the movie were better than the actual batman itself. But 'The Batman' is the best portrayal of what this character is and I can't wait for more. Seen it like seven times now
I wish this Batman had more rewatchabilty to it, it feels dragged out and the movie definitely suffers from that, I liked the movie but it feels so much longer than needed. I only seen it on release night so I will have to rewatch again maybe it will be different
It was my first time ever watching a batman movie and be like in my mind “ that’s Batman “. Especially with his eye expressions and his presence like in the mayor crime scene. Pattinson embodies the batman that I loved as a kid with the likes of Kevin conroy ,Arkham origins especially ( Robert crag smith) and the other animated shows/ movies interpretations. You know what I find interesting about what you guys said - about Robert Pattinson's Batman being the boy that doesn't belong - it's the same thing for the Riddler. It's one of the things I love about this movie. Is that they are very literally 2 sides to the same coin. 2 orphans. 2 anti socials 2 boys feeling outcast but growing up under very different circumstances and possibilities. I can see how maybe Edward felt relatable to Batman in the sense that maybe he perceived the same boy underneath the cowl that you did Greg.
Kevin Conroy is my definitive Batman, I grew up with him through Batman the animated series, Justice League Unlimited etc. it’s not just the deep voice he IS Batman and he IS Bruce Wayne through his performance of the character but there’s no doubt in my mind that Robert Pattinson is the best live action Batman I’ve seen probably ever? That’s just my humble opinion though of course :)
This is literally how I feel about it too. To the T. Kevin Conroy for the nostalgic Batman for people like you and I who grew up with the animated series in the 90's. Robert Pattinson for our generation as the adults we are now. I 100% agree.
My top 3 are Bale, Affleck, and Pattinson. (Not in a specific order) I do agree with the Bale voice thing. It was pretty good in Begins, where he only had to sound like that around people he was trying to scare. Pattinson definitely perfected the voice.
One of the things that I respect about Christian Bale as an actor is he is considered to be generous from his acting peers since he wants to make sure that his other fellow actors get to shine. I remember Bradley cooper, Amy Adams and Steve Carell saying that Bale is very generous on set. He’s in it to work as a team and not work as a one person show. I agree with your ranking to a certain extent. What I feel is that the dark knight triology played a very important base for subsequent batman performances and the movies . I mean with both pros and cons ,so for me Bale , Affleck and most recently Pattinson totally work. I hope Pattinson gives more awesome performances as batman in years to come.
Yes Patterson is number one for me. You cannot watch this once. The more times you watch the more you see. For me it was his movement in the Bat suit and his eye movement. He spoke volumes with his eyes. This has the best choreographed fight scenes of any of the movies with a very close second BVS and the warehouse fight scene. This movie lived up to the title THE BATMAN as his character was front and center. This is far beyond a superhero movie and its one of the best movies I have ever seen
I like Pattinson; his relationship with Gordon and Catwoman made me enjoy this movie. I like how the bat signal in the beginning brought fear for everyone and then became a symbol of fear for just the bad guys.
Pattinson's Batman is who the movie is about. Bruce is the alter ego. All other Batman movies Batman is alter ego. I think that is why he works well in The Batman.
The thing with Affleck's Batman is that and this is why some not all but some people on the internet can be a bit annoying at times when reacting to cast news, basically when Ben Affleck was announced as Batman some people were sayingit's an extremely awkward and weird casting choice. Yet fast forward to release and People are praising Ben Affleck's Batman basically saying he was one of the best parts of BVS, same with Pattison people joked about Twilight boy being Batman yet release date comes and he's praised as Batman and those jokes go down the drain. But my 2 favorite Batman portrayals are Ben Affleck and Christain Bale

Robert Pattinson AKA my husband and that doesn’t know I exist is for sure my favorite Batman. The jury is still out for my favorite Bruce but I love what Reeves did with the character. I think we are in for a treat for future films.

I remember being so hyped that Robert got the role for Batman. I had this confidence that I knew he was gonna do something great with this character. Especially after watching The Devil All The Time and Good Time, I knew this guy had some really really good acting talent and I’m glad he isn’t going to be overshadowed by Edward Cullen now. I couldn't agree more. The more I re-watch the movie, the more I love Rob's tortured, quiet, brooding take on Bruce, you can always see the well of anger bristling just underneath the surface. It's extremely captivating to watch. I also loved that he had to struggle through out his move and go through pain. Nothing ever really came easily to him despite sporting the iconic symbols of the cape and cowl. It made him all the more compelling. I've never seen a room full of cops corner Batman and try to rip his mask off before, or chase him through their building with the intent to capture and interrogate. The dive off the building and the ungraceful crash and and tumble just wrapped the whole sequence together beautifully! I loved it and was on the edge of my seat the whole time!
Life long Batman fan who couldnt agree more with both of you. First time i heard Pattinson was signed on to play Batman i was very interested in the casting choice then anything. But what a freakin awesome surprise to see his portrayal as the Dark Knight in year 2. Perfect! Funny cuz I was watching the old Batman serials from 1943 not long ago. And seeing Lewis Wilson's take on Batman then going through ALLLLL the actors up til now. (Who all did great in theyre own ways.) But we finally got the Batman that needed to be shown. Like everyone else had a great view and all added their own special approach to the character. But Pattinson embodied the hell outta it. Damn I wanted to see Batinson and Phoenixs' Joker on the big screen one day. Guess that's not gonna happen now lol.

Really enjoyed this video. For me Battinson is number 1 by a long shot, he doesn't even have that much dialogue and he just acts the pants off this movie. Plus I love the suit & it's my favorite batmobile. It was more reminiscent of the 60s car which I grew up watching (as a kid I took that show seriously too). The relationships between the characters in "The Batman" actually felt very similar to the 60s show except with zero camp (Batman & Gordon especially). That's why I'm hoping for a Robin. And the fact that Ben Affleck let Dick Grayson of all people get murdered makes me automatically deduct points from his Batman. Jason Todd, sure, but not Nightwing! I do like the fact that Ben looks like Bruce from the Arkham games kicking butt (I also like the contacts from "The Batman" because of the Arkham games). Michael Keaton and Pattinson are the only two that sold me 100% on "this guy dresses up as a bat and goes out at night and beats the crap out of people". Pattinson is damaged, depressed, obsessive, and rageful. Keaton is crazy in the best way, seemingly barely able to keep his secret. Unlike most people I actually really liked Batman Forever and Batman & Robin as a kid. I still really like Batman Forever. I thought Kilmer was a fantastic Bruce Wayne. I liked how in that version he's the only "sane" character. I wish he had been in Batman & Robin and not Clooney. Kilmer is just a completely unique vibe. Him opposite Jim Carrey was pretty awesome imo. And Nicole Kidman as Chase Meridian?..AMAZING. I even liked Arnold as Freeze. But my favorite Freeze is definitely the Animated series and I hope Reeves gets to do that darker, sadder take. Batman Begins is awesome . Didn't love Bale's Batman after that. He was more heroic to me as Bruce. Ledger TDK was of course spellbindingly good. I didn't like the 3rd Bale movie at all in any way. I would have loved to see Heath return as Joker 🃏 and Brittany Murphy as Harley Quinn in the 3rd movie, they would have been amazing. Overall I agree with your list but for me I'd bump Kilmer higher (just for his Bruce portrayal).
One key aspect is perhaps the environment in which a particular Batman was. If Christian Bale had been in the Snyder films, he would not have been such a good Batman. If, on the other hand, Ben Affleck had been surrounded by the actors and realistic take of Nolan'ss trilogy, we would have faced a really good Batman. Pattinson is now my favourite one for his performance and story, but Mr Affleck actually is the one that resembles the comic books Bruce Wayne the most, and he did a good job as well (Just imagine him in the Matt Reeves universe). Just wanted to point out that the cinematic universe and cast each Batman was in, had a lot to do with the perception we have on each character take

When you thing about it, Adam West has the most accurate portrayal of Batman. Okay here me out, Adam West Batman is based on the original source and at that time, Batman in the comic is kinda silly not until 80s when Batman turns dark.

Really interesting take, The Batman was great but I thought the ending was underwhelming at some point... But overall it's a great take on the Caped Crusader and if this movie is the "Begins" of the trilogy, I cannot wait to watch "TDK" of it ! ! I grew up with Adam West as Batman at like 6 and watched it only because it was as close to Marvel comics as we got on screen. You would have found it as campy as I did with the rubber shark gnawing on him in the helicopter rescue or Adam West running across the dockside with the enormous Spy vs. Spy bomb.....still cracks me up thinking on it.

Robert Pattinson is as close as we’ll get to the definitive Batman which is Kevin Conroy. He’s also the only Batman that didn’t find loopholes for the no kill rule. Bale killed two face, Affleck killed and Keaton straight up murdered joker and a lot of goons. Also its clear that this bruce sees Batman as the real him, so his Bruce persona he will eventually create will be a mask, whereas with Bale like Greg and John said that Bruce doesn’t see Batman as the real him. Kevin Conroy said it best Batman is the real guy and Bruce Wayne is just a disguise he puts on.
The best thing about Robert Pattinson’s Batman is that he literally strikes fear into the people of Gotham. Like when you see the shadows in the street you go like- dude i need to get out of here, it might me Batman. The criminals panic! Overall his Bruce Wayne really fits to the story as well a playboy wouldn’t have worked right now! I agree on Him being the best Batman!!!!!!! I did not expect to like him at all in the role, but when I got home from the cinema the first thing that I wrote was that I had just seen the best live-action Batman I had ever seen. Such an impressive accomplishment. Those eyes.

@@creativeperson5858 I had no knowledge of his other films except for Twilight...I saw as much of that as I could stomach. I steered clear of him as an actor after that. That added to the early photos of him in emo Batman eye shadow... I thought that this was going to be a 'YA' version of the hero. Which wouldn't be my thing. Then I saw the trailer and I thought okay I'd give it a go. Very glad that I did.
I do see a line between Batman and Bruce Wayne with Robert Pattinson. This is because when he is out in public and he’s Bruce Wayne, I do see his shyness and antisocial behavior but when he’s Batman he lets loose and lets his emotions run wild.

Excatly Pattinson's batman felt really vulnerable and innocent in his prespective of morality, kinda weird but I found his interpretation more endearing than scary tbh

One thing I noticed is that Robert Pattinsons batman someone who is noticed and has all the attention but doesn't want it, he doesn't want to be seen as bruce wayne someone who is doing nothing he just wants to be batman and have a impact to set gotham toward a bright future and make sure nobody lives the life he did. However riddler is someone who has no attention and wants all of it, he wants his name to be known and he doesn't necessarily have hope for gotham he want's to restart it by washing it clean and for him to be known as the savior the man who did everything so nobody could live the life he did. They are both misguided children set out to do the same thing just with different intentions on how they would carry it out.

Robert Pattinson is now my favorite Batman for so many reasons and every time I have watched The Batman I just can’t believe what Matt Reeves did giving us a Batman about Batman and we see Batman being Batman 90’s of the movie, Robert Pattinson was just phenomenal in this role and he also was able to play this character while just talking and emoting his thoughts and feelings with just his eyes! I loved it, so go see it if you haven’t and if you have go see it again and support this movie while it’s in theaters, it needs to be seen on the big screen!!! Loved it!

I might be biased but Pattinson is my favorite batman by a longshot..... I never really liked any of the other batmans. There stories were great and the other aspects within the movie were better than the actual batman itself. But 'The Batman' is the best portrayal of what this character is and I can't wait for more. You know what I find interesting about what you guys said - about Robert Pattinson's Batman being the boy that doesn't belong - it's the same thing for the Riddler. It's one of the things I love about this movie. Is that they are very literally 2 sides to the same coin. 2 orphans. 2 anti socials 2 boys feeling outcast but growing up under very different circumstances and possibilities. I can see how maybe Edward felt relatable to Batman in the sense that maybe he perceived the same boy underneath the cowl that you did Greg.
Kevin Conroy is my definitive Batman, I grew up with him through Batman the animated series, Justice League Unlimited etc. it’s not just the deep voice he IS Batman and he IS Bruce Wayne through his performance of the character but there’s no doubt in my mind that Robert Pattinson is the best live action Batman I’ve seen probably ever? That’s just my humble opinion though of course :)

One of the things that I respect about Christian Bale as an actor is he is considered to be generous from his acting peers since he wants to make sure that his other fellow actors get to shine. I remember Bradley cooper, Amy Adams and Steve Carell saying that Bale is very generous on set. He’s in it to work as a team and not work as a one person show. I agree with your ranking to a certain extent. What I feel is that the dark knight triology played a very important base for subsequent batman performances and the movies . I mean with both pros and cons ,so for me Bale , Affleck and most recently Pattinson totally work. I hope Pattinson gives more awesome performances as batman in years to come.

Yes Patterson is number one for me. You cannot watch this once. The more times you watch the more you see. For me it was his movement in the Bat suit and his eye movement. He spoke volumes with his eyes. This has the best choreographed fight scenes of any of the movies with a very close second BVS and the warehouse fight scene. This movie lived up to the title THE BATMAN as his character was front and center. This is far beyond a superhero movie and its one of the best movies I have ever seen

Pattinson's Batman is who the movie is about. Bruce is the alter ego. All other Batman movies Batman is alter ego. I think that is why he works well in The Batman.
The thing with Affleck's Batman is that and this is why some not all but some people on the internet can be a bit annoying at times when reacting to cast news, basically when Ben Affleck was announced as Batman some people were sayingit's an extremely awkward and weird casting choice. Yet fast forward to release and People are praising Ben Affleck's Batman basically saying he was one of the best parts of BVS, same with Pattison people joked about Twilight boy being Batman yet release date comes and he's praised as Batman and those jokes go down the drain. I remember being so hyped that Robert got the role for Batman. I had this confidence that I knew he was gonna do something great with this character. Especially after watching The Devil All The Time and Good Time, I knew this guy had some really really good acting talent and I’m glad he isn’t going to be overshadowed by Edward Cullen now. I couldn't agree more. The more I re-watch the movie, the more I love Rob's tortured, quiet, brooding take on Bruce, you can always see the well of anger bristling just underneath the surface. It's extremely captivating to watch.
I also loved that he had to struggle through out his move and go through pain. Nothing ever really came easily to him despite sporting the iconic symbols of the cape and cowl. It made him all the more compelling.
I've never seen a room full of cops corner Batman and try to rip his mask off before, or chase him through their building with the intent to capture and interrogate. The dive off the building and the ungraceful crash and and tumble just wrapped the whole sequence together beautifully! I loved it and was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Life long Batman fan who couldnt agree more with both of you. First time i heard Pattinson was signed on to play Batman i was very interested in the casting choice then anything. But what a freakin awesome surprise to see his portrayal as the Dark Knight in year 2. Perfect! Funny cuz I was watching the old Batman serials from 1943 not long ago. And seeing Lewis Wilson's take on Batman then going through ALLLLL the actors up til now. (Who all did great in theyre own ways.) But we finally got the Batman that needed to be shown. Like everyone else had a great view and all added their own special approach to the character. But Pattinson embodied the hell outta it. Damn I wanted to see Batinson and Phoenixs' Joker on the big screen one day. Guess that's not gonna happen now lol.
Then there's me. Who has been a fan of him since I was a kid and watched his movies and knew that he would for sure knock it out of the park.

Really enjoyed this video. For me Battinson is number 1 by a long shot, he doesn't even have that much dialogue and he just acts the pants off this movie. Plus I love the suit & it's my favorite batmobile. It was more reminiscent of the 60s car which I grew up watching (as a kid I took that show seriously too). The relationships between the characters in "The Batman" actually felt very similar to the 60s show except with zero camp (Batman & Gordon especially). That's why I'm hoping for a Robin. And the fact that Ben Affleck let Dick Grayson of all people get murdered makes me automatically deduct points from his Batman. Jason Todd, sure, but not Nightwing! I do like the fact that Ben looks like Bruce from the Arkham games kicking butt (I also like the contacts from "The Batman" because of the Arkham games). Michael Keaton and Pattinson are the only two that sold me 100% on "this guy dresses up as a bat and goes out at night and beats the crap out of people". Pattinson is damaged, depressed, obsessive, and rageful. Keaton is crazy in the best way, seemingly barely able to keep his secret. Unlike most people I actually really liked Batman Forever and Batman & Robin as a kid. I still really like Batman Forever. I thought Kilmer was a fantastic Bruce Wayne. I liked how in that version he's the only "sane" character. I wish he had been in Batman & Robin and not Clooney. Kilmer is just a completely unique vibe. Him opposite Jim Carrey was pretty awesome imo. And Nicole Kidman as Chase Meridian?..AMAZING. I even liked Arnold as Freeze. But my favorite Freeze is definitely the Animated series and I hope Reeves gets to do that darker, sadder take. Batman Begins is awesome . Didn't love Bale's Batman after that. He was more heroic to me as Bruce. Ledger TDK was of course spellbindingly good. I didn't like the 3rd Bale movie at all in any way. I would have loved to see Heath return as Joker 🃏 and Brittany Murphy as Harley Quinn in the 3rd movie, they would have been amazing. Overall I agree with your list but for me I'd bump Kilmer higher (just for his Bruce portrayal).
One key aspect is perhaps the environment in which a particular Batman was. If Christian Bale had been in the Snyder films, he would not have been such a good Batman. If, on the other hand, Ben Affleck had been surrounded by the actors and realistic take of Nolan'ss trilogy, we would have faced a really good Batman. Pattinson is now my favourite one for his performance and story, but Mr Affleck actually is the one that resembles the comic books Bruce Wayne the most, and he did a good job as well (Just imagine him in the Matt Reeves universe). Just wanted to point out that the cinematic universe and cast each Batman was in, had a lot to do with the perception we have on each character take

When you thing about it, Adam West has the most accurate portrayal of Batman. Okay here me out, Adam West Batman is based on the original source and at that time, Batman in the comic is kinda silly not until 80s when Batman turns dark.
Pre-1950s Batman comics were quite dark, even by today's standards.
Adam West's version was based on the toned down version for children.

Really interesting take, The Batman was great but I thought the ending was underwhelming at some point... But overall it's a great take on the Caped Crusader and if this movie is the "Begins" of the trilogy, I cannot wait to watch "TDK" of it ! ! Keep up the good work ;)

I grew up with Adam West as Batman at like 6 and watched it only because it was as close to Marvel comics as we got on screen. You would have found it as campy as I did with the rubber shark gnawing on him in the helicopter rescue or Adam West running across the dockside with the enormous Spy vs. Spy bomb.....still cracks me up thinking on it.
