How I interpret the story in Onew's "Dice" MV and song is that every time Onew rolled the dice his fate changed. That is why you saw him changing his look every time he tossed the dice. Throughout the MV Onew tosses the dice thinking he needs to change his fate in order to find the girl and rescue her. However, in the end, when she steps out of the elevator, you see she also has a dice, which means she also is in control of her own fate. You discover she rolled the dice in order to defeat the monsters and to allow her to meet Onew. I interpret the song and MV to be about taking control of your own fate, and if you don't like the circumstances you are in at the moment, just roll the dice and change things. You don't have to continue to be stuck in the situation you are in if you actively work to change it. At one point you see a monster with a smashed dice in his hand, which I think is supposed to symbolize how the monsters, or bad things in your life, don't have control of your fate. If you don't give those bad people and things control of your life, you will always have a say in how your dice is rolled and where your fate takes you.

(Onew will even tell you that just because he has his own understanding of the story, that doesn't mean that other people couldn't interpret it differently.) Every person who watches the MV has their own life experiences which can shape how they see and understand things. Hence why I said, "This is how I INTERPRET the story ..." Onew is promoting "On the Way" with "Dice" - its a Cha Cha Malone production, a vocally centric R&B song and OMG it is so good to hear him sing, especially live on the music shows. He was on Music Bank last night and I'm not sorry, I was tearing up a bit, he looked and sounded so so good!
His first mini VOICE is a ballad album and he released it 3 years and 4 months ago (5 days before going to the military) as a gift to fans. With this 2nd mini album he experimented a lot of different genres and singing styles. During the press conference he said "I want people to see me as not only an artist who sings OSTs and calm ballads, but also as someone who is capable of showing new music styles and performances". So this is definitely a new side of him and I couldn't be happier! As much as I LOVE his ballads, he's one of the most incredible artists I know, his vocal range is insane and with this album he finally showed to the world how versatile he is! 😊 Enjoy the album, it's a masterpiece!💯

It's beautiful and he gets to showcase his vocals wonderfully. But since it's mainly ballads, a lot of people thought he wouldn't release any dance songs. So "Dice" album is Onew's way of proving those people wrong. Yes he can do ballads and of course, he can do dance songs too. He's a SHINee member after all! There's nothing they can't do. Jinki's new album "Dice" is smooth and diverse and shows new sides of him, I think you'll like it if you give it a listen! And obviously I recommend "Blue" album as well. I would LOVE to see you react to the rest of Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Onew's solo mvs! This album fits my taste perfectly, I'm so proud of him for stepping out of his comfort zone! Even though it's his second album, the first one dropped on the day he enlisted so these are actually his first solo promotions and he's doing great! He's been coming back out of his shell slowly since discharge and honestly I haven't seen Jinki wholeheartedly embrace idol-Onew since probably mid 2017, it's such a relief that he's feeling better these days.
This is such a fun video and a new side of Onew that I REALLY like, and I adore this new sound from him. I also found it cute that Onew kept the album title trend alive that was created with Taemin's first solo album, "Ace" and then Jonghyun saying he "plagiarized" Taemin's album title by rhyming his first album by using "Base". Then Key jumped on the bandwagon with "Face" and Onew with "Voice" and now "Dice". As another reactor stated, Onew and the girl are the only humans in the video. The others are robots. This is significant as it could mean that Onew and the girl are really ALIVE; INDEPENDENT -- thinking for themselves and not just following the trends, what they're told, or HIDING BEHIND MASKS. Also, from what I can understand, each roll of the dice can change the outcome of a given situation; in other words, they are not afraid of change. At first, it appears that only Onew has a die. When a die appears in the robot-like character's hand, it seems to be short-circuiting because its hand is vibrating in a slightly chaotic fashion. However, if you look at the girl's hand (right one looking at the screen) during the elevator scene when it first opens, we see that the female protagonist also has a die, so she can also change outcomes. This is my take on it anyway. Others will have more input to clarify things...lol. If you're familiar with SHINee at all, you can instantly recognize the SHINeeisms throughout the MV. Here are a few things that struck me after watching this for the umpteenth time: 1) The "bellhop" robots in the beginning, as well as the robots in the dining and party scene have dull, sick-colored green masks/faces. The backup dancers have the more SHINee-colored masks, making them more friendly looking towards Onew. 2) Are the robots experimenting on "sour" lemons and trying to make them into blue-green lemonade (called pearl-aqua -- SHINee's signature fandom color) that all the robots drink in order to change them into cheap imitations of SHAWOLs (SHINee fans)? OR are they turning sour lemons -- "fake/anti fans" or "saesangs" -- into real SHAWOLs through the music? In any case, the aqua lemonade color isn't quite right, but bears a striking resemblance to SHINee's drink in "Married to the Music" that changes Taemin's skin color. 3)If you look at the slime on the walls there are two different shades of aqua. The brighter blue color is the signature color for the SHINee fandom, while the other color has more of a green tint and seems duller -- jealousy perhaps? 4) The overall bold coloration of set and fashion is reminiscent of Jonghyun's "She is" and "Shinin" and SHINee's "Atlantis". 5) The party scene with bright fashion, presence of fruit -- especially lemons -- are all reminiscent to SHINee's "Married to the Music". Remember Key's decapitation scene where the severed portion of Key's neck looked like a lemon slice, eyes being knocked out, etc., . 6) The nod to Taemin's chainsaw fetish in "Criminal". 7) The entire "world" Onew's in reminds us of a planet Key would discover within his "Bad Love" space explorations! 8) Although I'm still searching for any tidbits from Minho's "Heartbreak", one SHAWOL suggested the golfing scene may be a nod to Minho who loves golfing. If the golfer does represent Minho, you can see he's surrounded by the correct pearl-aqua color (protection of SHAWOLs) on the walls while a few of the greener blobs cling to it. I could be totally wrong, but it's too much fun to play with potential theories.

DICE is brand new to all of us. He even set out with a different idea for his 2nd EP in mind before pivoting to a totally different sound. This EP fits in with the type of chiller vibe that Key and Minho put into their solos. It’s almost as if they want to compliment the rest of SHINee’s discography by giving the fans something a bit more relaxing, haha. Apart from Onew’s first EP, their music isn’t necessarily slower, it’s just not as intense as SHINee or Taemin. Jonghyun was smooth, but a lot jazzier and sexier.

Dice to me shows the chances that you have to take if you want to get anywhere in love or life..The masked people seem like the status quo..all looking the same, not challenging the mundane and social expectations...and the chainsaw guys enforcing that by reacting to someone showing individuality and change..The scene with the Lemon lady (the girl) again defies the normal narative with the girl able to save herself (and Jinki😆) not needing the hero to rescue her..Each roll of the dice brings new roads and possibilities ( his costume changes each time)...That's my take anyways lol..😆..I love this new album so much...the whole thing is just everything. He has a few lives out with the comeback stages now with Dice and On the Way (other song)...might be an idea for Patreon (Mcountdown loves to block as you know). His performance of On The Way had me shook.. I really wasn't ready for sexy Jinki...(it's not overtly sexy..it's Jinki..I think that the entire fanbase would implode if it had been 🤣) But the performance was fire and he looked stunning...He has some great ending fairies too..Key must be so proud..😆

My favorite theory is rhat Lemon Lady = SHINee World. He goes to sve her but she saves herself and rescues him instead. The album is fabulous!! SHINee members continue to be innovtive nd interesting and the best.
He saw the girl was in trouble and tried to save her but she ended up saving herself and him. Also, he said that he chose 6 songs for his album because SHINee has 5 members and number 6 is shawols, if you noticed everytime the girl appeared, he was holding the dice on number six, so probably the girl represents shawols being there for him as him always being there for shawols. That's how I see it. You should definitely check the whole album, is amazing, every song is good, also check out the stage performances of Dice and On the Way. Apart from that he wrote the lyrics for the song "In the whale" which he said it was for shawols, so as you can imagine we're on cloud nine, not only because of those gestures, but also because he did so well, he's amazing and as usual, he slayed. 🙂
His Voice album consisted of ballads and he didn't promote it at all, since he went to the military few days later. So this is the first time he promotes on music shows, in the radio etc. This album is very different from Voice, much more bright and funky, which shows that he is in a different place now, mentally and career-wise, than he was at the end of 2018. Both are beautiful though. As someone said, you should listen to Voice in the evening, before going to sleep, and to Dice during the day, especially when you are driving or working :)
His first solo album Voice is indeed ballad heavy and in my honest opinion, all songs would sound good as an OST. It was however, not promoted at all because he had to serve the military. Not an album for anyone who dislikes ballads. I love it though. This new album, Dice is pretty eclectic. A mish mash of concepts but very pleasing, easy listening, fun, bright, somewhat retro feel album. Both albums tho, showcases his voice really well.
Hey RJ! Glad you liked Dice. I absolutely adore the vibe and Onew being a little more up-tempo than his ballads (which of course are beautiful). I too noticed his freckles -- wish they would show them more often. His face seemed a little too white for my preference, though that might have been for a particular meaning. And notice that, like Taemin, Onew is championing female power in this video. Speaking of Taemin, um, NO RJ, you haven't heard all of Taemin's solo work. Or perhaps I should say you haven't reacted online to all his work. If you haven't seen them, please consider a double reaction of his performances of Shadow (infamous for Taemin's body vibration choreo) and Heaven (dancing on an angled stage). I like the song and I love Onew’s voice. I didn’t really understand the meaning of the masked people. I’ll be curious to see what other commenters have to say. If you want check out a song from his 1st album listen to Blue. His vocals are amazing. Unfortunately, the official video doesn’t have subtitles though.
Rabid SHAWOL here who has watched this MV more times than I’d care to admit. I love the hidden Easter eggs that I may or may not be right about. I’ve done more of a visual than thematic overview and haven’t quite dissected the meaning of it all! There’s a couple of things that remind me about SHINee’s Married to the Music: the mysterious glowing liquid, and if you noticed that the lemon was bleeding when they cut it in the kitchen, it reminded me of when they decapitated Key and then the inside of his neck looked like a lemon instead of viscera. The masks and gloves of the people are SHINee Pearl Aqua. And the slime around the hotel reminds me of Key’s latest comeback as well as I think it’s also a bit darker Pearl Aqua in color. I don’t know if those are just a sneaky homage or meaningful within the plot of the MV. Also, I may be completely projecting, but at the end when “Lemon Girl” (as she’s been dubbed) helps Onew up, the image is reminiscent of Michaelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” painting. I love how, even though Onew was dressed in two very obviously “Prince Charming” outfits (the blue jacket and the one with the ruffled shirt) Lemon Girl was able to save herself. And Onew looked up at her in awe and pride, no male ego squashed! I just loved that. I’m sure there’s many I’ve missed but I’d love to hear anyone else’s observations!
This song and mv have such a fun and refreshing feel. Onew is showing us a whole different side with this new album. And we get to see him dancing, I love that choreo. Perhaps it would be good to do an Onew special for next Friday's SHINee slot. You could watch the first music show for Dice that he did, on MCountdown. This is very important for Shawols as it is his first solo music show stage. It is such a good performance and you get to see the whole choreo. All the titles of this "DICE" album are excellent, with different styles and tones. Onew gave us a wonderful gift with this album, a real gem 👍✨ to listen to without moderation. Personally I have a huge crush on "Love Phobia"💖, which made me totally vibrate and then come the titles "In the Whale" and "On the Way" which I love ❤. The titles "Dice" and "Sunshine" are very funky and colorful, we immediately catch on without any problem, it makes you want to be in summer 😉. the one that would perhaps arrive last on the list would be "Yeowoobi" it is perhaps the too repetitive side of a sentence in the chorus that bothers me a little, but it is still very good music and the voice of Onew is so magical that I think I'll end up loving it a lot in the end ^^
My interpretation is a bit different: this MV is suggestive. But you can interpreted it like you does. so be warned!!!! I think this MV shows love in different ways. Good and bad ones. If you role the dice, you don't know what you get. And this video wants to encourage you to roll the dice, at the same time it is against bad love. (yes, key's song name). Various things are presented which I will briefly summarize: rape, deflower, pleasure, drugs and i think i don't get all. I think this MV is for Key because of the clothes (atlantis key), key's new song and "born to shine". This isn't onew, because this song is a thank you to key.

His performance of On The Way had me shook.. I really wasn't ready for sexy Jinki...(it's not overtly sexy..it's Jinki..I think that the entire fanbase would implode if it had been 🤣)

My favorite theory is rhat Lemon Lady = SHINee World. He goes to sve her but she saves herself and rescues him instead. The album is fabulous!! SHINee members continue to be innovtive nd interesting and the best.

He saw the girl was in trouble and tried to save her but she ended up saving herself and him. Also, he said that he chose 6 songs for his album because SHINee has 5 members and number 6 is shawols, if you noticed everytime the girl appeared, he was holding the dice on number six, so probably the girl represents shawols being there for him as him always being there for shawols. That's how I see it.
You should definitely check the whole album, is amazing, every song is good, also check out the stage performances of Dice and On the Way. Apart from that he wrote the lyrics for the song "In the whale" which he said it was for shawols, so as you can imagine we're on cloud nine, not only because of those gestures, but also because he did so well, he's amazing and as usual, he slayed. 🙂
Sorry, but if i understand the infos i got right: "in the wahle" is the song for the shawol. And i personly think dice is for key.

His Voice album consisted of ballads and he didn't promote it at all, since he went to the military few days later. So this is the first time he promotes on music shows, in the radio etc. This album is very different from Voice, much more bright and funky, which shows that he is in a different place now, mentally and career-wise, than he was at the end of 2018. Both are beautiful though. As someone said, you should listen to Voice in the evening, before going to sleep, and to Dice during the day, especially when you are driving or working :)
His first solo album Voice is indeed ballad heavy and in my honest opinion, all songs would sound good as an OST. It was however, not promoted at all because he had to serve the military. Not an album for anyone who dislikes ballads. I love it though. This new album, Dice is pretty eclectic. A mish mash of concepts but very pleasing, easy listening, fun, bright, somewhat retro feel album. Both albums tho, showcases his voice really well.

Hey RJ! Glad you liked Dice. I absolutely adore the vibe and Onew being a little more up-tempo than his ballads (which of course are beautiful). I too noticed his freckles -- wish they would show them more often. His face seemed a little too white for my preference, though that might have been for a particular meaning. And notice that, like Taemin, Onew is championing female power in this video. Speaking of Taemin, um, NO RJ, you haven't heard all of Taemin's solo work. Or perhaps I should say you haven't reacted online to all his work. If you haven't seen them, please consider a double reaction of his performances of Shadow (infamous for Taemin's body vibration choreo) and Heaven (dancing on an angled stage). I like the song and I love Onew’s voice. I didn’t really understand the meaning of the masked people. I’ll be curious to see what other commenters have to say.

The album is even better than the title track, SHINee has crazy bside tracks in general!
Rabid SHAWOL here who has watched this MV more times than I’d care to admit. I love the hidden Easter eggs that I may or may not be right about. I’ve done more of a visual than thematic overview and haven’t quite dissected the meaning of it all!
There’s a couple of things that remind me about SHINee’s Married to the Music: the mysterious glowing liquid, and if you noticed that the lemon was bleeding when they cut it in the kitchen, it reminded me of when they decapitated Key and then the inside of his neck looked like a lemon instead of viscera.
The masks and gloves of the people are SHINee Pearl Aqua. And the slime around the hotel reminds me of Key’s latest comeback as well as I think it’s also a bit darker Pearl Aqua in color. I don’t know if those are just a sneaky homage or meaningful within the plot of the MV.
Also, I may be completely projecting, but at the end when “Lemon Girl” (as she’s been dubbed) helps Onew up, the image is reminiscent of Michaelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” painting.
I love how, even though Onew was dressed in two very obviously “Prince Charming” outfits (the blue jacket and the one with the ruffled shirt) Lemon Girl was able to save herself. And Onew looked up at her in awe and pride, no male ego squashed! I just loved that.
I’m sure there’s many I’ve missed but I’d love to hear anyone else’s observations!

This song and mv have such a fun and refreshing feel. Onew is showing us a whole different side with this new album. And we get to see him dancing, I love that choreo.
Perhaps it would be good to do an Onew special for next Friday's SHINee slot. You could watch the first music show for Dice that he did, on MCountdown. This is very important for Shawols as it is his first solo music show stage. It is such a good performance and you get to see the whole choreo.
I would also recommend something he did for hello82 a few days ago - "What is this game that made Onew not so Onew?/tongue twister". It shows his lovely personality and entertaining interactions with Shawols.

All the titles of this "DICE" album are excellent, with different styles and tones. Onew gave us a wonderful gift with this album, a real gem 👍✨ to listen to without moderation. Personally I have a huge crush on "Love Phobia"💖, which made me totally vibrate and then come the titles "In the Whale" and "On the Way" which I love ❤. The titles "Dice" and "Sunshine" are very funky and colorful, we immediately catch on without any problem, it makes you want to be in summer 😉. the one that would perhaps arrive last on the list would be "Yeowoobi" it is perhaps the too repetitive side of a sentence in the chorus that bothers me a little, but it is still very good music and the voice of Onew is so magical that I think I'll end up loving it a lot in the end ^^
Album is soooooo good! Not hype, just truth. DICE is so bingeworthy.

I think this MV shows love in different ways. Good and bad ones. If you role the dice, you don't know what you get. And this video wants to encourage you to roll the dice, at the same time it is against bad love. (yes, key's song name).
Various things are presented which I will briefly summarize:
rape, deflower, pleasure, drugs and i think i don't get all.
I think this MV is for Key because of the clothes (atlantis key), key's new song and "born to shine". This isn't onew, because this song is a thank you to key.
