As a ranger you are a field officer and Incharge of a single range just like an inspector of a police station. He/she will report to the ACF in subdivision but in most cases directly to the DFO. An ACF can have upto 2-5 rangers under him. ACF is a non uniformed post. In terms of perks: As an ACF You'll get a personal vehicle with a driver, bungalow if available , house help such as cook and gardener etc). In case of Ranger you'll get a type 3 quarter, a vehicle normally a bolero but not for personal use. And no personal driver. Promotion wise - Ranger will be promoted to ACF in 15 -20yrs and DFO in next 10-15 years. An ACF may reach upto the rank of CF depends on various circumstances and vacancy of the post. Both the posts are extremely well respected and sought after but one should definitely opt for the superior post of the two, which is Assistant conservator of forest (ACF).
