What you said about working from home resonates completely with me. A portion of the freelance work I take on involves much reading and writing, so it is essential for me to separate reading for leisure and reading for work. I find, like you, that a routine of space and ambiance is necessary to devote myself to loving literature for myself. Thank you for sharing all of your thoughts throughout this video. I'm glad you did this tag, not only for those thoughts but for helping me discover your channel!
I really cherish the moments that I actually have full peace to read with nice ambiance and a lit candle. It really makes a difference! I have been getting much better at dnf’ing. Those glasses look great on you 😎
I don't have an answer for all of them but I definitely set the mood when I sit down and want to get a good amount read. I am a big fan of thunderstorm or crackling fireplace sounds in the background. I have a specific spot on the couch and I always have my drink. Tea or cider when it is cold or crystal light or cherry coke zero when it's hot. I'm a creature of habit 😊 I 100% agree about the DNF. Life is too short and my TBR is too long!
@NoJacki_OnlyZuul Yes to thunderstorms & crackling fire sounds💖 I can't wait for cider and mulled wine weather to return. I drink hot coffee year round, but there's just something special about hot coffee on cold fall & winter days.
I'm glad you decided to do this tag too! I feel you on the work from home situation. I also struggle to make time for reading because I keep thinking there are chores and things I could do lol. I love talking to my husband about what I'm reading too. He's getting really into dark fantasy lately and it's making me get into it too. Love your dnf attitude, "put the book down!" Rereading an old favorite to get out of a reading slump is a great idea. Loved your answers!
I actually managed to ignore most of my "responsibilities" yesterday and was able to finish reading two books. I felt refreshed and ready to tackle chores today. But will I remember this lesson when I start putting pressure on myself again? Probably not😂
Really loved your responses Jen! Personally, I read best when there are no distractions- no noise, music nothing. I sometimes sit outside and hear the sound of crashing waves, but prefer my comfy couch. I never annotate but do sometimes jot down notes (never in the book) if something really stands out for me. Totally agree about DNFing or shelving books, I am doing it more often since I started booktube.
@@CliffsDarkGems The sound of crashing waves is a perfect background noise. It's so peaceful. Absolutely all in for DNFing books that aren't working for us🙌
Love your answer, Jen! ❤ I usually read before bed and on the weekends. I wish I could read outside but the house we are in isn’t set up for hanging out on a porch or deck, sadly. I used to read during the cooler months when I was in an apartment with a deck and it was so atmospheric ❤
@@NicolesBookishNook I can't read outdoors now due to the heat, but I will get back to it in autumn. I truly can't wait until I can take walks and listen to audiobooks again. Hurry up, October!
Excellent answers, Jen! I'm the same way with journaling. It needs to be simple for me to be consistent. I’ve been loving the horror reading journal put out by Hawke Haus. It’s laid out perfectly for my needs and I can quickly jot down the info I’d like to include. I appreciate hearing all of your tips and tricks. You’re wonderful! 🖤
I completely agree with what you said about goals.
I may have to do this tag.
Great answers!
Yes! Do the tag😊

@@Alicia-606 The right atmosphere really does make a difference. Thanks - they're just my blue light blocking glasses😂

@@literarylove123 Hell yeah! But yeah, I guess it wouldn’t balance out if it didn’t swing back and forth 😆

Oh, I need to check out that journal. Thanks for the recommendation and for your kind words.
