The fact that people can’t appreciate this fight in isolation is crazy. Clearly we know Amanda wasn’t there that night, but none of us knew that going in. This was a crazy moment that will always live in infamy.
she said she was sick before the fight happened, so a few kinda expected this
She had multiple knockdowns in the first round, and got gassed trying to finish. She decided to stand and trade punches, rather than defend and move her head, leading to the loss.
I'm tired of these BS excuses for great fighters. She was there that night, and she got beat. It's that simple. In the rematch, she made the necessary adjustments to win, but here, she made many poor decisions.

Just look at Amanda in the first round vs the second. Champion level to amature. She completely gassed, likely had an ego, and stood and banged with someone she thought could never beat her. Nunes is human and made a mistake, then she came back to correct that mistake like a champion would and smashed her for 5 rounds. The GOAT.
This was not a fluke. She went in, implemented her gameplan and came out as the champion! Still proud of her!

I will never forget being in Las Vegas for this fight. UFC 269 was action packed from starts to finish. I really wish Juliana didn’t drop the ball after winning. She was tapped in the entire fight week and then went the diva route after winning.

Even though it was fluke, the adrenaline dump from the excitement the entire stadium had after the fight was comparable to the Max and Justin fight. For a time this was the most insane thing the MMA world had ever seen in a while.
Say what you will about Peña but that type of delusion and heart is what helped her pull of this win when everyone thought she had no chance at all. She tries her hardest regardless even when she was getting knocked down in the rematch she stoop up and tried and tried again which is more than previous opponents have done against Amanda

Seemed like a pacing issue. Nunes through 16.87 Significant Strikes per minute in this fight, while she threw 6.08 in the rematch.
We all wondered why Nunes gassed so incredibly fast for seemingly no reason, then we found out she had been recovering from covid. Put an asterisk next to this one.
