Backlog pruning is indeed quite important. I prefer simple prioritization but that's preference. You also benefit from having scope. For that, consider COSMIC, which has been shown to more uniformly correlate with effort and which you could even use as a framework for adding items to your backlog. Key note if you have multiple Sprints planned then you are not Agile and you are not following Scrum practices, you are now mini-Waterfall.
