Spot on Mr. Botkin. Thank you. In 1991 my Father foresaw this and wisely moved our family to the States. The government changed in 1994 and crime and corruption became the new normal as South Africa began to decay. He passed away in 1998 but this week we are especially grateful for his wisdom and foresight. It is a hard time for our family and friends there. The police are largely a joke and if it were not for private security services and good people protecting their own communities with force, this would have been 100 times worse.
In San Diego we have have South Africans that are here mainly to study and work in the biotechnology and technology sectors. I ran across an elderly woman from SA who spoke good of Nelson Mandela. I asked her about his involvement in a terrorist organization, their bombings, and his wife Winney's advocation for necklacing (tires shoved onto people, doused with gasoline, and lit on fire). She immediately said that Mandela did nothing wrong with assurance and conviction. She also said that her father helped him somehow.
