I personally like the last breath mode where you can't win. You would gain the infinite health but in the end you are left with 1 hp and then gaster completely takes over sans and deals the final blow, showing the reason why the void is a blessing and a curse at the same time.
I think the reason his skull cracks is 1. Reference to Mr Wingdings . 2. The force of the magic coursing through his body is so powerful it needs an extra place to expel magic.

Technically, that’s not cheating. Asgore can do it too and I can technically be done if you have any amount of determination. Also, breaking the buttons was the only chance Sans and Gaster had of winning because of how the player can just respawn anytime they die. If anything, that’s cheating.
