I watched one piece almost three years ago, soon as I got to fish men arc the stakes were to low, animation didn't improve much and the pacing got worse

Yeah, Filthy Frank said it best when he talked about kids whining about not being born in the 80s or whatever. We have access to the entire naruto catalog, and we can look at what episodes are filler. We can watch dub or sub. We don't have to go to the local blockbuster and look for the complete box set of blank with the OVAs. We don't even have to wait for next week's episode of dbz that I might miss depending on whether or not I finish up my project and get to the tv first. It's so much better for us right now since we have everything on demand. I guess the only downside is that the tv release differs from DVD and Blu-ray releases, but it's not the end of the world. Except it actually kind of is when you consider Jesus is coming back.

I almost want to say that anime as a whole has actually gotten better over the years. It might just be me aging, but it feels like the medium has matured a lot. With projects like Jin Roh, Bebop, FLCL, LOGH, Eva, JoJo, Champloo, Berzerk, and others being part of the medium's list of classics, it makes sense that we would be in an era of evolving themes, inter-project dialogue, and artistic iteration.
The vast majority if every season is made up of school or isekai. Is it really evolving to have a seaon like the one we have at where most male leading characters look the same. Literally 8/10 are the same dude
@@jjj8317 This is true, but I think the amount of good stuff we get each season is increasing. There's a lot of weird out there stuff getting picked up for adaptation. There's also a lot of shows being made that you wouldn't immediately assume would show up in the anime catalogue. Vinland Saga for instance, to my knowledge, is a fairly uncommon kind of show. It's a foreign period piece that cares to be at least marginally accurate, and adhere more closely than usual to historical facts. (I can only really think of Yasuhira Hara's 'Kingdom', or Shinichi Sakamoto's 'Innocent' by way of comparison, though innocent hasn't been adapted so.). Dandadan is getting picked up. Sonny Boy only came out recently in 2021. Eizouken and Blue Period are thoughtful shows about making art. CSM is one of the wackiest most meta-concept manga I've seen, and that's getting adapted, with the first season having twelve unique outro songs paired with visuals that are all themed after the specific episode they're paired with. Mappa's first feature film Illusion Factory came out and was weird and pretty. And all of that doesn't even mention what was essentially revival of the fantasy genre from out of the isekai pits via Dunmeshi and Freieren. So when you say the "vast majority" of each season is uninspiring, sure, that seems believable. But there also seems to be a growing cohort of competent and well made projects out there, which I think is something to be excited about.

Understand your sentiment however, thats not 100% reality. The reality is that various eras of anime have different writing styles, artistic styles, show structure, music, and different techniques/technology used in production. It's very logical for someone to say they enjoy anime from the 80's 90's, 2000's, 2010's or 2020's. Each of these eras of anime all have various differences. Even to the point, it's logical to say you enjoy 90's anime & current anime while disliking the years in-between. ( Of course, this is speaking in generality. there's many anime that spanned multiple eras or shows that are created to favor a certain style.)
@@xblade149 It is not just nostalgia. There are plenty of shows I watched regularly which do not hold up well at all today. Beevis and Butthead I used to enjoy as a kid. I cannot stand those shows these days. There are some shows which are just narratively superior and Seint Seiya is one of those shows.

I’m an actual 90s kid and a LOT of modern anime are fucking awesome. Most of those shown here are great… the stories are often incredibly moving with amazing animation quality (instead of mostly static images) It feels like some people that talk about “nostalgia” never actually lived during those periods 😂

I almost want to say that anime as a whole has actually gotten better over the years. It might just be me aging, but it feels like the medium has matured a lot.
With projects like Jin Roh, Bebop, FLCL, LOGH, Eva, JoJo, Champloo, Berzerk, and others being part of the medium's list of classics, it makes sense that we would be in an era of evolving themes, inter-project dialogue, and artistic iteration.
The vast majority if every season is made up of school or isekai. Is it really evolving to have a seaon like the one we have at where most male leading characters look the same. Literally 8/10 are the same dude

There's a lot of weird out there stuff getting picked up for adaptation. There's also a lot of shows being made that you wouldn't immediately assume would show up in the anime catalogue.
Vinland Saga for instance, to my knowledge, is a fairly uncommon kind of show. It's a foreign period piece that cares to be at least marginally accurate, and adhere more closely than usual to historical facts. (I can only really think of Yasuhira Hara's 'Kingdom', or Shinichi Sakamoto's 'Innocent' by way of comparison, though innocent hasn't been adapted so.).
Dandadan is getting picked up. Sonny Boy only came out recently in 2021. Eizouken and Blue Period are thoughtful shows about making art. CSM is one of the wackiest most meta-concept manga I've seen, and that's getting adapted, with the first season having twelve unique outro songs paired with visuals that are all themed after the specific episode they're paired with. Mappa's first feature film Illusion Factory came out and was weird and pretty. And all of that doesn't even mention what was essentially revival of the fantasy genre from out of the isekai pits via Dunmeshi and Freieren.
So when you say the "vast majority" of each season is uninspiring, sure, that seems believable. But there also seems to be a growing cohort of competent and well made projects out there, which I think is something to be excited about.

Seint Seiya still holds up as well as it did when I was a kid. Though, many of these shows just do not hit the same.
Understand your sentiment however, thats not 100% reality. The reality is that various eras of anime have different writing styles, artistic styles, show structure, music, and different techniques/technology used in production.
It's very logical for someone to say they enjoy anime from the 80's 90's, 2000's, 2010's or 2020's. Each of these eras of anime all have various differences. Even to the point, it's logical to say you enjoy 90's anime & current anime while disliking the years in-between.
( Of course, this is speaking in generality. there's many anime that spanned multiple eras or shows that are created to favor a certain style.)

I cannot stand those shows these days. There are some shows which are just narratively superior and Seint Seiya is one of those shows.
