    So happy I found this, every other video is for trim seals. Thanks for posting this. What caused the motor to corrode like this? How much fluid should I add to get it back to normal?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh, It’s the fact the motor housing is metal, reason why I like to paint the electric motors when I get a new one to install. A lot of these in several horsepower are coming in plastic. You should be Ok with a little less than a quart of fluid, and remember using non-detergent and above all avoid ATF. Thank you so much for watching.

    Great video!! do you need to replace the fluid that seeped out? Didnt look like you added fluid that was lost.

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you for watching, yes, fluid most be added after installation of the unit, I probably missed to tape that part Ill see the video again to confirm, but yes you must add fluid when unit is all the way up in at least two complete cycles up and down.

      No really, once the reservoir is full there is plenty for all cylinders. Thank you for watching. Your opinion matters. Take care.👍🏻

    I'm new to boat ownership and repair. I noticed that you like to use marine grease on surfaces; is this to prevent rust, as well as to make it easier to remove the part later if needed ?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tyyoung, exactly both, now on the corrosion side, I probably wouldn’t be so adamant in using this grease if I were on a fresh water environment.
      Thank so much for your question and participation on the channel.
      Take care

    Great video, what is the torque specs for the 8 bolts ?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi TN, Manual shows 14 FtLb for the electric trim motor, and 26 to 30 Ftlbs on the trim unit mounting bolts, however some torque specs are just a suggestion given that they don’t need to be that accurate bc are not safety parts, as of a connecting rod, crankshaft bolts, crankcase bolts and power head fasteners are to be taken more serious. On these ones I use common sense in what I think is enough for the bolt not to come loose or brake.
      Hope this helps. Thank you for watching. 👍🏻

    is it possible to replace the trim motor without removing the whole unit?

    • @us4marine
      @us4marine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, thank you for watching. It all depends, if you’re asking because the center engine mounting bolts are in the way? Yes it's possible, having the right tools and the skills, in this case however for the amount of effort involved in dropping the whole unit vs risking breaking one of the electric motor bolts or working uncomfortable, I rather removed it and benched it. Also some of my videos are for folks to be able to work on their own motors at home or their marinas, reason why I try not to get too confusing.
      Thank you.
