    I've literally searched for a pattern llike this for years (and now I have it for free)! And I never seen this thumb construction and excited to try. Thank you! But I guess I'd stitch some elastic into the edges of the palm parts.

      You could add elastic, I prefer to have mine easier to flip, but I don't live in a super cold climate.

    This looks like exactly what I want! I can never understand why flip mittens usually enclose the thumb, when I can't do a thing with my thumbs covered. Would it be difficult to sew by hand, do you think? I'm a skilled quilter and I've sewn faux fur scarves by hand. Fleece is not my favourite, but it seems like the best fabric for this.

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It probably isn't too hard, especially since fleece doesn't fray

      @@Mellysews I have a brilliant idea for the thumbs. Make the tube longer, then fold it down for when you are using your hands. If you have the mittens on and your thumbs are cold, you can fold up the thumb bit and they will be covered fairly well.

      @@Mellysews Also I am looking at fleece that's bonded to faux suede, or to sherpa fleece, for warmer mittens.

      @@Quilter1977 for non stretch or thicker fleece, you will likely need to size up.

      I did the exact same thing. Once you get to the point where you need to sew the 1/2 inch to attach the back to the palm, sew it on the opposite side you did before. That way, the thumb is facing the opposite direction. Hope this helps! 😊

      Yup, what @lilyajima9500 said. You can also mark the right and wrong sides of your fabric when you cut it out to help.

    it dosn't look like the top covers the bottom on the palm unless your hand is cupped? is it too short?

    • @Mellysews
      @Mellysews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a 1/2 inch overlap, but you can easily increase that if you prefer.
