Such a great idea! May have to look into this. I am more of a crocheter, but I am a baby knitter and I am starting to get more and more tips and tools for my knitting.
It´s funny. I have used those photo storage boxes for year for keeping seeds (and I have a lot of those), but it never occurred to me to use them for knitting notions and materials. Very clever. I love your stickers and I applaud how organized you are. That labeling system is fantastic. As if your humor. You DO make me laugh, Rachel. Another satisfying watch, thank you. (And I use binders with clear envelopes like the pencil case envelopes kids used to use. I have my fixed circulars in them. As for the interchangeables, I keep the tips and cords together in the original cases because I hardly ever have bought extra cords. I much prefer the fixed needles, and yes... I have a lot of them. ChiaoGoo all the way!)
I store my cords in little like notebooks 7-1/2” tall and 5” wide that have vinyl zip up pages and 6 rings to put pages on.. One book holds about 15 vinyl sheets. Each sheet is marked with the size cord and in the book from shortest to longest. One book is for all my Chiaogoo cords. One is for miscellaneous brands and one is for fixed cord needles. Different color books. They all have a magnetic closure. These work very well for me.
“I live in fear of authority if you didn’t know” hahaha made my day! Also just went and got a box, it’s so versatile for beads or ribbons or anything!!
Love this idea - even for my non interchangeable needles. When I use my needles I "check them out" of their case with a notecard. Its a nice record of what needles and hooks make what.
I store my needles like this as well, after trying half a dozen other solutions. I may be doing this for all my buttons and notions as well. This is the only way I found has kept my needles organized, easy to find, and also easy enough for me to not be lazy to put away :) Also allowed me to use my label maker which is always a bonus lol.
Love this idea! We use these for seed organization. Michaels has them for $15 right now 1/23/23. It goes on sale pretty often. I may do this to store my loose fixed circulars!
I have been using Erin Lane’s fabric needle storage bags and notions wallets, which match her project bags of various sizes. I have been collecting fixed length circulars of various lengths for decades and the different sized pockets accommodate the different length cords in a way that I can keep a single size needle per row and count down the columns, 1 - 6 in one case and 7+ in a second case. Since they are fabric and fold up, secured by magnets, they are extremely portable for knit nights or travel. I can’t gush enough about Erin Lane!
Thank you Rachel for another great video! Just to share, for my non interchangeable needles I use a fishing tackle binder I purchased on amazon. It is a 2 ring binder that comes with zip lock “pages” and each ziplock holds one set of my needles. It was approximately $15. I would share the link but youtube will not display my comment if I do. Btw, it is sticker friendly too!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. What about your knitting journal? Would love to see how you do that. I bullet journal and am thinking of incorporating my knitting
Omg I need some of those adaptors for the mini cord I accidentally bought before I learned there was a difference between small and mini. Got it from my LYS too so I couldn't return it lol.
Wish I'd known about this system before we spent over $300 on the beautiful -- absolutely gorgeous -- Thread & Maple binder and pages, which I love but it's not all that practical, tbh. Like the Chiaogoo cable page only stores a handful of cords and would never work for someone who has as many cords as you do, Rachel. (nothing wrong with that!) Even I'm feeling pinched, and I don't have *that* many cords. It also doesn't really store my tape measure, stitch markers, etc. unless I spent MORE money to get the Notions page, whereas this system has room for everything and allows for expansion (just buy another box! lol).
@@rachelisknittingActually, I'm trying the Michael's plastic organizer you feature in your video, and to be honest, it's crap. The latches won't stay closed and half the inner containers are bent so they don't close properly. I was a bit suspicious when this was on sale for $12.99 when the regular price is $41.99. I do still love my Thread & Maple binder, especially for needles. But the cord storage page leaves a lot to be desired, so I set up this Michael's organizer... only to be disappointed. The plastic is so cheap and flimsy, and there seem to be no better alternatives, not even at the Container Store. ::sigh::

Hi Rachel,
I just love your needle library! Thank you so much for sharing.
✌️💜🧶🧦
Thanks so much!
What a great idea to pass on, thanks. Love that green on you.
Thanks so much!

😂 It’s the truth! But yes this has so many uses!

Yes! Thank you for doing this video! This is brilliant!❤ This is something I am going to implement this year.
Glad it was helpful!

Yes why is using a label maker just so fun??

Great idea!!
@stacylgh Do you mean right now 1/23/24? (i.e. the day this video was posted)
@@kj3d812 Yes. At least it's on sale at the one closest to me. They have a big storage and organization sale going on.

That sounds like a wonderful and CUTE solution! I’ll check it out!
This is sooo much better than my current storage solution. I have several tiny binders and it’s a disaster
Yeah this way works really well for me!

Sticker commitment issues are REAL. I love stickers, but I live in constant fear of putting them in the "wrong" place
Yes exactly!
Great idea! Thanks for sharing. What about your knitting journal? Would love to see how you do that. I bullet journal and am thinking of incorporating my knitting
I’d be happy to share more!
Yes, I would like to see Rachel’s knitting journal, too. I wish I had taken pictures and notes of projects especially those Ive given as gifts.
Do you have a way of marking interchangeable cord sizes?
On my labels made for individual boxes I have the size listed.
Omg I need some of those adaptors for the mini cord I accidentally bought before I learned there was a difference between small and mini. Got it from my LYS too so I couldn't return it lol.
Yes!!! Now you can put them to good use!

Totally understandable! Although I will admit that I drool over that needle binder whenever I see it. I’d love to try it one day!

Love your ranunculus. What yarn did you use?
Thank you! I used Cascade 220 (the non superwash version).
Beautiful! @@rachelisknitting
