Aprender a reconocer las características Físicas de los Minerales

RESUMEN
Los minerales y las rocas constituyen el primer sustrato natural sobre el que se asienta la vida y la actividad del hombre. Por ello resulta fundamental aprender a identificarlos.
Según su composición química y proceso de formación, los minerales tienen unas determinadas propiedades, que no pueden distinguirse únicamente por su aspecto visual, ya que el mismo mineral puede presentar aspectos muy diferentes. Por ello, para identificar minerales y rocas debemos aprender a reconocer sus propiedades físicas.
Desde el Laboratorio de Geomorfología de la Universitat de València se muestra cómo reconocer las propiedades físicas más significativas de los minerales: estructura cristalina, dureza, tenacidad, densidad, raya, exfoliación y fractura, color, brillo y birrefringencia.
ABSTRACT
Minerals and rocks constitute the geological substrate for life and human activity. Depending on their chemical composition and formation process, minerals have certain properties, which cannot only be distinguished by their visual appearance, since the same mineral can present very different appearance. Therefore, to identify minerals and rocks we must learn how to recognize their physical properties.
From the Geomorphology Laboratory of the University of Valencia simple methods to recognize the most significant physical properties of minerals are shown (crystalline structure, hardness, toughness, density, exfoliation and fracture, color, brightness and birefringence).
