As a Maldivian, seeing that people from other countries are showing interest in our culture makes me smile. Keep up the great work! You've earned a sub
Basically the story is one strong sailor or the captain sailing the ship in rough sea with winds and storms, he never give up. And his brave crews.. ( Back in those old days) they way of sailing for their family to feed, ( fishing, trading etc .. ) The lyrics made with very meaningful local language, the way they harmonize all together is just fabulous.. Note : beru ( it’s hand drum, crafted with special wood and goat skin.
Hiii from Maldives I really appreciate that you did this . this can really increase in our population and I appreciate that you like our culture and our music . THANK U
fun fact: "boduberu" literally translates to "big drum" and (because maldivian islands arent that large) it was originally used to create a sound to attract people to a specific place for a gathering or something similar but now has turned into a musical instrument. The "Sangu" shell aka Triton shell was also used for the same thing, people would blow air through the sangu and it would create a horn like sound.
Hey, I am glade to see this post. Yes we are Maldivians. Maldives is a must to visit tourist destination. Our music is unique. Why don't you compose a song for the same music from your language. I wish it could be done 😊❤️
the "LH" in the word "Raalhugandu" is pronounced between a "L" and a "D"!! the sound is very similar to fast yodelling without yodeling!! I can only explain this much to a foreigner like you in words!!
Hi Paul, the artists are also surfers.. boduveru is one of Maldives' traditional form of Music. The youngsters are reviving the old boduberu music with a little bit of their own creativity. This song is about a journey on the rough seas, rowing and fighting the waves to reach their destination before sunset. Someone in the comments have translated it beautifully. If you come to Makdives someday, go see a boduberu show.
much better reaction then pest x rydey. boduberu is a cultural thing in Maldives. it's more pleasing to see foreigners appreciating our culture then the modernized songs in Maldives.

Bondu beru isn't the most popular type of music in maldives but it's a tradition type of music. Bonduberu is the drum used in that genre
