Hey all, so coincidentally right as I was uploading this, an insane world record just happened. I'm already on it 😅 - in the meantime, here's a preview for the biggest annual online tournament in Classic Tetris that just started today - a great opportunity to see all the best players go head to head this month!
Thanks for featuring me Scout!! I'm very far from a masters title rn, especially compared to 2020 or 2021, but I'll try my best! This video gives me hope haha
@@sdsign4229Koryan learnt to hypertap at 40-something and Jonas Neubauer dominated the game for 10 years straight at the same age range, its never too late!
@@ThinkAboutVicIt can be hard to find the time to put in to learn it though. Its never too late in the sense that you couldnt do it if you tried. But unless you want to give up on the rest of your life it might be a pipedream regardless. Youd have to put in several hours at least on most days to even have a chance of getting anywhere. And then other people will still be putting in more time and therefore progressing faster. If you can find 2 hours to put in every single day it would still take you over a decade to reach 10k hours and at the same time others will be putting in double, triple, quadruple or even more. You can reach a pretty respectable level of skill in anything quite fast without giving up on the rest of your life but to become a true master is not possible unless you can find a way to put in a good chunk of your day on most days for a long time still. That's why you generally dont see people like Jonas or Koryan as a sport/field develops and matures. The level of skill becomes so great that adults simply cant compete timewise anymore and the only masters will be young people who have the freetime to catch up to that skill. This is all only for becoming a master though. Theres no reason not to get into it anyways just casually. You can become more skilled than like 50% or even 80% of people with just a few hundred hours of practice. And better than 95% with a thousand.
CTM is one of those things where I know I can win, but it’s just a matter of when. I’ve been practicing much less because of college but I’ve still been performing well somehow so I know one of these months will be mine!
I feel like I really admire how human you display the people that you talk about. The admiration for them is audible in your voice and the amount that you care about them makes it really easy for me as part of your audience to care about these people as more than just names in a video.
Enjoyed watching this with my son - it's kind of crazy that some of these people have never won! I liked your emphasis on perseverance. Every tournament is a new chance to pit your skill against the others and the luck of the draw. Thanks for previewing the top players - it makes it more fun to watch the tournaments.
Tristop's 1.3 million Das may be the most impressive record in the history of tetris. He played about as close to a perfect game of Tetris as is possible with a style that has no business hitting 1.1, let alone 1.3.
Scout I used to watch your videos and streams on Twitch constantly. I have not watched you in a year or two. Im glad to see you still posting Tetris content
Great work as always Scout, I think for the question “who was closest to winning Masters and never did” this is a pretty nailed on list. If we are generally asking for best players who never won Masters, also by virtue of not playing in them actively, Sam Finch and ruins immediately come to mind as excellent players in their day (in Sam’s case to this day actually) who just never happened to play many CTMs but likely would have found success if they did.
I'm so glad I found your channel. It all started last month. I found my game boy in the attic and hadn't played it for 25 years. Then something incredible happened. I kept getting the rocket again and again like my mum used to do. I also beat b type 9 5. I couldn't do any of this as a kid. I'm now addicted to Tetris again and in the process of buying a NES and that's coz of your channel. I'm just blown away by what's happened to Tetris. A 40 year old game suddenly ppl are beating scores, coming up with new playstyles. So I'm going to learn to roll and I'm going to try and compete but I also have a dream, to hold a huge Tetris tournament in my home city of London. I'm already talking to sponsors about getting a big prize fund. Tetris isn't like any other game, I remember when it came out and I still have the magazine with the review. It gave it a playability of 6, in the same magazine it gave balloon kid a playability of 8 LOL, Are ppl still playing balloon kid??? 😂 Anyway I've said too much I just wanted to thank you for keeping me entertained every night since I've discovered your channel. Youre a STAR. ❤
As a non-Tetris player, I'm always overjoyed to see your videos of the wonderful community that surrounds this game. I'm currently climbing out of a depression relapse, and I think my headspace is at the point where I can try my hand at the game and have fun with it. Wishing you all the best, and looking forward to trying to get to a competitive level while following the Tetris journey.
