Vikram is getting amazing with each passing day. This was one of the longest head massage session I have. He is a true genius of massage. I remember when I first had a massage with him. There wasn't anything special and decided to use him occasionally for getting a massage. He use to stay close whenever Master Cracker did the massage and I guess he learned a lot from him but he never tried to copy him. The best part of Vikram is he doesn't accept tip easily. I have to put it in his pocket and walk away. He says that you are already paying for the service and there is no need to tip. The thing that no one tips these small barbershop's barbers and he belongs to a very small village where electricity is a luxury thing. He never has seen someone doing this and now when I try to do so, he feels like he is cheating me with charging extra. He understands the value of money and he does saving for his future which is the most beautiful thing.

I know these massages only cost a few dollars in India. However, I can guarantee they would charge a lot higher in the us. The average price I seem to hear about over in India is 2 dollars per massage.

I must be missing something because I'm not understanding how this guy jerking your hair and smacking the crap out of your head, plus other strange things like blowing into your ears is considered a "massage"....looks more like some weird BS to me...plus what's with the hair pulling accompanied by the slight crack? Hair doesn't behave like a joint which would pop and "crack"...so that's a bit strange what he does with the hair. In fact the whole experience seems a bit weird.

India is not poor, but the people are. This is because the government and the elite have taken a lot of the country's wealth for themselves. This is reflected upon the fact that India is one of the fastest growing countries in terms of GDP, but the gap in wealth between the upper and lower class is not improving (some could say it has gotten worse). This means that the money that the country is generating is not going back to the people. This is the cause for the low standard of living in India. People like to make jokes about how Indians throw their waste on the streets, but it's not like they WANT to make their streets dirty. It's because the government has failed their people by failing to provide services and goods that should be provided by the goverment. This includes improving and building more public infrastructures. It's very sad really, which is why there are guilds for barbers and other occupations, but even they fail to adequately provide for the hard-working Indian people.
So to answer your question DarkReneGade, the Indian people are poor not just because of the reverberations of the caste system, but more so due to the economic liberalization of India during the 70s and 80s that opened up India's markets. For brevity, the opening of Indian markets led to the Indian people to be victims of exploitation from outside countries while the elite reap the benefits because the elite were the ones who advocated for market liberalization in the first place. It's all about money
@Albert Dacosta and Im sorry for commenting so much, but I hate the spread of misinformation. Read the description. Vikram can barely afford electricity. Although poor Americans still have trouble paying bills, even some of the poorest Americans still have enough money to pay for gas and electricity for their house, maybe even a shitty car to drive to the market. You can't possibly say that India is doing alright for itself, it would be ignoring all the injustices and hardships the Indian people face.
