- The Floaters was an American soul-singing group from Detroit. The group was founded in 1976. Their first single Float On, produced by Woody Wilson, was also the only hit of the group at ABC Records and placed in the top position of the British charts. and 2nd place in the American Billboard Hot 100.

They don't make silky smooth music like this anymore. I could listen to this forever.
The idea for the lyrics was to spotlight each member of the band was really cool at the time. They introduced themselves with their name and astrological sign. The verses read like personal ads, as each member makes his pitch to the ladies. They briefly expressed their true feelings of what kind of woman they liked. Brilliant!

In 76 I was in grade 10. Loved this tune at the ice rink skating to the slow song with my girl. I still have the vinyl 7 single.
I have never heard this song before. I was 23 in 1979. Busy with a new marriage, new baby, just starting college and a part time job…I guess I was too busy.

The floaters were the best, sure there was other bands that were hitting the charts back then but no one sang like the floaters (float on).
