Yes, they had to amputate the leg from the infected narrow part downwards. They made wooden prosthesis leg stump for him with straps attachment and he learnt to walk with it quite well, although it sometimes drops off when Namae suddenly dashes onward. He's about 1yo in this clip and got to meet the older orphan 'phants first time without human surveillance when he turned 2.5

And at the same time the Kandy Perahara also has a history of elephant cruelty, although its ironic that the parade is gone for religious purposes. When will the govt wake up and take serious action?
