It's amazing how quick Leo can make Byleth seem.
Seriously. When you play byleth into any speedy character it feels like all your options are way too slow and you always stay in disadvantage. Leo made the MU look even!
Well, none of the characters in smash are truly slow, incineroar and ganon's moves, some are fast enough to still catch someone off guard
ambiguous speed is relative to the other characters. incin and ganon are definitely slow.
@@ambiguous8661 there's two aspects to speed: your movement speed (grounded and in air) and then your frame data. Byleth is not only slow on the ground, and in the air, but also has mostly laggy moves. Granted it's not unplayable, and like you said with ganon- there's fast moves like nair to catch people off guard, and you do have your range and power to make up for it, but against speedy characters it's hard to space and attack properly, compared to say a roy who feels like they can mash and still come out on top

If you saw Leo's twitter today, he said that Byleth is better than Marth, and the amount of hate Byleth got in the replies was hilarious. People out here still thinking that Byleth is trash. That aside, Leo's Byleth is genuinely one of my favorite characters to watch in all of Ultimate and this is coming from a guy that doesn't like watching Leo normally (Not so much Leo's fault, more of I don't like watching Joker, can do awesome stuff, but most of time, I find Joker boring).

On the topic of their viability, I think Byleth might fair better than Marth, but simply cause of consistency. Marths still gotta work for them tippers otherwise I’d easily say he’s better than Byleth like how Lucina is.
She isnt trash but she is still pretty bad. But just because leo plays byleth in a good way, doesn't make her a good character. That's like saying pikachu is automatically good because of Axe.
@@Lilhajxjk274 I don't know anything about Melee so I can't really argue anything about Axe, all I know is that he's a notable Pikachu. But if Leo is playing Byleth at such a high level, isn't that a testament to a character being good, or at least decent? People always just chalk it up to Leo being an amazing player, which he is, but could he do the same thing at a high level with someone like Dr. Mario or Ganon?
I personally hate looking at characters based on results, results are a combination of the player's skill and the character. I firmly believe that Pikachu is the best character in Ultimate but Esam's results don't support that at all. I think in a game like Ultimate where so many characters are good or viable, it's better to look at a character's potential instead, and Leo is showing off Byleth's. Byleth is not a bad character, he just has too much going for him compared to the low tiers of Ultimate, a lot of kill power, range, drag down combos, good ledge trapping, pretty decent edge guarding, and juggle potential, with how large u-air is, it forces an air dodge. Byleth has his weaknesses, but definitely has his own strengths to compensate for it.
@@shadowstar2194 He's not that bad, but definitely around lower mid teir. Again, I wouldn't call him good just because leo does great with him, even in ultimate where bad characters can still do good against good characters. Any top player can do good with a low teir if they practice them enough. Like Axe's Melee pikachu, or Nairo's Sm4sh bowser, and zelda, or Samsora's zelda, and bayonetta, mewtwo kings melee zelda, pichu. Low teir characters can still do great, but just take more effort to play by default, and still get thrown around more by default.

No i dont think thats what he was trying to do. If he wanted to just go over it he could have jumped and likely gotten in a backair for the KO. Not to mention using up B like that at that range would he super risky as if it latches he would have gotten hit. I think leo got lucky.
@@AbeDorf18 same thought. I main female byleth and my first thoughts after seeing Leo up B was that he pressed something wrong from panic. Because after fatality went falcon kick, I imagined myself as Leo and visualized my byleth jumping out of the kick, not going for Up B. Nevertheless! That was a very impressive fraction of an inch dodge from Leo 👌

@@kyriethegoat8007 I don't think he was trying to give him a lesson. He was just saying that the Up B from Leo might have been a mis-input rather than it being intentional. And all I said was that if that was me, I would have jumped over the falcon kick. Everyone plays differently to get to the same goal 👌

The thing I love about the best at tens is it tells me not to take my losses seriously because I could always come back
Matches are volatile anyways. Sometimes the dumbest plays work or even catch you off guard, and sometimes you have good days and bad days. The best way to approach the game for me is to always have fun and learn or improve a bit each match
2 major things i learned just by watching this FT10: 1)Leo is incredibly hard to hit consistently during his 2nd stock
2)Do not roll in to Leo lol
Yeah the final 6 games kinda highlight the impact of quality spacing. Leo positioned himself so well and I think that definitely drew over extensions and mistakes from fatality. Imo he encourages errors from other players at an absurd rate.
I just want to find someone that will love me as much as Griffin loves the "understandable have a nice day" meme.

Watching Leo play this insanely difficult character has inspired me to learn it. I'm used to ZSS, with Mewtwo and Wolf being my more difficult to play characters but hard work and dedication.
I’m fully convinced that with Leo’s amazing spacing that if he played shulk and managed to optimise monado arts he would never lose another game ever again.

Rewatching Fatality's FT10 series while either working out OR doing some Shiny hunts via Masuda Method in Pokémon Scarlet and my GOD this set was so much fun to watch. Just watching how well these guys both space is inspiring me to continue working on that aspect of my own gameplay
Byleth is a tough one to play well with

God......Leo robbed Fatality out of any fun after 6 set. You can see Fatality started to go for wild reads and dying for it. As well of his jump out of shield stumps. We need a run back.

So it’s safe to say that the first few matches Leo was just warming up...
Leo is always a good watch, even more so with Fatality. I feel that Fatality is one of the few who forces leo's hand at times with his aggressive use of burst options, not to mention Griffin has gotten even better since starting the FT10 series. Falcon WILL win a major, can't wait for offline to return!

It seems like Leo was conditioning fatality for the first few games. I noticed Leo was playing weird and was wondering why he wasn't doing certain things. Then in later games he pulled them out when fatality was already conditioned not to expect it. That my 2 cents XD.

I don't think he had the good mindset during the last games and that why mkleo's lead was so big.
I like the humility at the end. Can't call it a "John" when you also say he's just better. You can learn alot from Leo though and continue to improve. Good stuff. Keep grinding. I'd just work on some new mix-ups. You're leading the charge so you can't vibe off of anyone else's falcon but maybe look at Nick C or something and see if there's ways in you aren't using as much. Without a doubt Fatality is the best Falcon, and contests the top tier players. 5:25. That was so close it tickled my ass hairs through the screen. The problem. As well as Fatality knows this match up, MKLeo knows it better. MKLeo is a master of the fundamental elements. From the start of third match MK started reading/adapting to Fatality’s airdodge/roll/approach patterns and options. Fatality when he gets the momentum is insane, but MKLeo is like some kind of wall. You may start the siege well, but he adapts and counters, with a near malicious level of focus and intelligent play. Good show men. Awesome.

game 5 definitely noticed Fatality following a missed landing aerial with a turn around tilt a lot and it seemed like Leo was always calling it out
I dont agree with fatality, this is probably even and no one is in favor. We all know, falcon loses to ranged character. Byleth might be not the fastest but still have tremendous range.
True in a sense, I think fatality likes to run in a lot instead of playing the whiff-punish game (which counters byleth's speed)for the content. Pretty sure if he runs back to avoid most of byleth's moves like nair/fair they are easy to punish but its campy as hell. Then again this is online and it is harder to do reactionary gameplay.

Leo is the type of dude that overtime slowly downloads the matchup in his head and reads what the opponent is going to do next. Add that to him being a master at spacing too and you have a extremely hard game coming to you.

If Byleth hits a wall with his Up B he'll do an instant wall jump, it also works on the underside of stages like Battlefield but not flat ceiling stages like Smashville.

@@gilbertoperalta2172 byleths recovery is one of the best if not the best. Aside from the chain being so freaking long, you can recover by hooking on to the ledge like normal. Or you can hook into a wall and jump back on stage OR even if you are too far to hook on to the stage, there's still that small possibility where the enemy chases you down and you hook on to them to get yourself to safety while killing them. So just having those 3 opportunities makes byleths one of the best.
@@Fission889 the trick to beating byleth is to push them out horizontally after they double jump. Too many people let byleths go low everytime. sadly falcon doesn't have a great way to do it consistently.

Despite all the hate Byleth got their noveset is actually really fun and stylish, giving them 4 weapons was the right decision.
Hot take, but Byleth is actually one of the more interesting Fire Emblem characters in Smash. Finally something else than another sword-for-brains (Although I still have a weak spot for Ike).
Online Byleth is rough cuz of lag and it's harder to react with the tech situations you get in but offline the character is very rewarding
@@warhammerchaosgod true, most people didn't want another FE character but the few that did wanted an axe user, sometimes a lance user, Byleth is all that and even uses a bow, and even his sword is a whip so that's unique too.

NjA Villager lost his lloid jacket in patch 8.0 which allowed him to wear lloid rocket if he used it on frame 15 of his crouch and falcon has the instant land on the platform
