    In order for garlic pucks to work and not fall apart, you need to mince them with oil. I toss my garlic and a little bit of avocado oil into the processor together. Then I use a small ice cream scoop and scoop out little pucks into the cookie sheet to freeze. They come out amazing and are so handy for cooking!

      I came to say something similar! I use just a bit of water when I mince mine. I use my small cookie scoop and flash freeze them. Mine stay together no problem. ❤

    Garlic Tip (my fave kitchen hack) cut just the tip off of both sides of the garlic on every clove and then put them in a large mason jar with the lid on and shake It up and then when you dump it out all the skins will fall off of the garlic. 😊 No hand peeling to do.

    Love freezing my lemons & limes to add to water to drink. I just slice mines & flash freeze, then put into silicone freezer bag! Make a Non-Toxic All Purpose Cleaner! Sometimes, I take just the peels of the citrus fruits, put them in a jar with a lid & cover with vinegar. Then you let the jar sit in your kitchen cabinet for 2 wks. Strain & dilute 1:1 (water to infused vinegar). Now you have a Multi-purpose Cleaner. 🍋

    I have lemon and lime trees. I juice my excess citrus and make lemon or lime juice cubes and bag them up to make lemonade or limeade year round or thaw a cube or two for recipes/marinades.👍🏼 I keep some peels as well for zest or make lemon peel & vinegar garbage disposal cleaner balls I keep in the freezer as needed.

    I find using a stainless steel pastry bench scraper is the easiest and fastest way to scoop onions up from the cutting board and into a bowl. I use it to scoop everything from chopped fruits and veggies to shredded cooked chicken from my cutting board. Keeps my knives from getting dull too quick.

    I’m just here to point out in terms of cast iron it’s perfectly okay to wash your cast iron with dish soap because modern dish soap is no longer made with lye. You don’t have to of course but I know a few people who are hesitant to use cast iron because they’ve always heard that it can’t be washed with soap. A modern mild dish detergent will remove food debris and surface oils but it isn’t strong enough to remove the seasoning ☺️

      Newly wed here 🙋🏽‍♀️ I used my cast iron pan once so far to make chicken and loved how it turned out but a thick coating was left stuck on it. What is the best way to remove the caked on burnt coating and to prevent this from happening every time I make food? Also what do you typically clean it with?

    • @thedupontnest
      @thedupontnest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@stationaryobsessed5832 there’s several really great suggestions here on TH-cam, but I just take a metal spatula or something slightly abrasive (having Ice Cream Salt on hand helps) and scraping it off and returning it immediately to a hot burner to get the moisture gone helps! ☺️
      Also key with cast iron: regular seasoning (this is where other clips would come in handy); AND preheating it enough so the pores seal up and it becomes nonstick. I turn mine on high for several minutes, then down to medium for a few more (for most cooking scenarios) before adding my fat to the pan, then food. Water should dance across it like it would on stainless steel ☺️ hope that helps!

    For minced garlic, if you use a quart freezer bag and put the garlic in a thin enough layer, you can easily break off pieces from the large block. It will just bend off easily.

    I enjoy this type of food prep! I’ve been working with cast iron and trying to get used to it. I don’t use non-stick or aluminum in the kitchen and so that pushed me to try cast iron. I’m still adjusting but growing to really like it. I have to be careful with my electric stovetop to not have the heat up too high otherwise the pan ends up VERY hot. But I’m learning. 😊

    like the idea of the shredded potatoes because we can make them clean, without all the additives of store bought. I have some cast iron and yes, I worry about the rust, I don't recall if they are seasoned or not got them through JCPenny's a long time ago and have not used. So any comments/suggestions from you or those who use-I'm all ears. Thank you for another great meal prep video ❤

    For the frozen diced onions, my parents have always just gotten the chopped onions in the frozen section from the store. I just like doing my own because I think it's a little fresher and I can get the onions the size that I want. Same with carrots.

      @AdalineZook  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      GREAT question! So I personally use a small drop of biodegradable dish soap and a scrubber.. it HAS TO BE biodegradable soap because this means there are no harsh chemicals in it that will strip the seasoning off the pan, and I also use a very small amount! As soon as I wash it, I dry it right away and rub oil on the inside of the pan, my pans never sit un-oiled. I've been doing this process for years and our pans work great! Hopefully this is helpful!
