A number of people have ended their lives at the roadside stop. One time I was parked there in the 90s playing harmonica and just taking a break from driving. I was approached by a man who inquired of my disposition, telling me that people have chosen to take their lives here, wanted to know that I’m okay. Those mementos hanging on the fence are a rather recent happening.
I had an odd experience turning onto 32 from 281. Within a mile of turning off from HWY 281 I hit a small fog bank and I immediately got the sensation of a large encampment from a different time period. This was my first time experiencing in this area. I grew up around paranormal activity.
Used to live in Canyon lake I can say the whole area is pretty spooky at night especially. No one ever wanted to drive down purgatory or the backbone at night and if you did you drove fast. Personally I had car problems happen as soon as I got on the backbone acouple times and they went away as soon as I turned off it.
I just got back from Fredricksburg a couple days ago. My family stopped off at Devil's Backbone. It was our first time there besides my mom's. Me and my girl heard a faint moan two times. My daughter got scared and ran off. That's when my mom mentioned that people hear voices from ghost. I literally had no idea about the history or paranormal experiences untill she mentioned it after we heard the faint moans. Not sure what it was exactly but found it interesting yet kinda creepy because no one was around at the picnic stop
Many people have wrecked and flowm off the cliff, i spoke to a man a few times that was a victim, he was going to get his bike from the mechanic he had a wife and brand new daughter and he was taking a turn and flew off the side, ive heard its caused by a white appercion of a women that appears infront or in the vehicle
I believe we see and hear what we want to. Most things can be explained. I'm unsure why there would be confederate soldiers there when no civil war battles occurred in this area. Granted I have never been there and sat in wait for the ghost to show themselves but I still believe the mind is a very tricky thing.
I totally agree with you. I believe there is no reason for any such entity as ghost to exist and that all of the time its just peoples imagination, your mind is indeed very tricky and if you fear something its only natural that your mind will try to create all sorts of reasons to avoid "danger" and that was a very usefull thing. If our ancestors heared something in the dark its better to imagine there being some kind of danger and leaving and maybe one time this could actually save them, like they say better be safe than sorry. I would love for ghost and spirits to be real cuz that would mean that also religions are true and that there is something after death(which idk if it is really a good thing) but i am just not convinced
Add about 5 minutes 28 seconds I hear a male saying what's your name I also think it would be interesting do you have a native American listen to the beginning ones
Ive lived just a few miles from Purgatory Road and the backbone for years and never once heard or experienced anything that was even remotely paranormal. I find it odd that the so-called ghost hunters pick up evp's that even after playing it 3 or 10 times it still just sounds like static or background nature noises. I would think that since "spirits" knew how to talk when alive why cant they talk where you can understand them now? I think its the Bigfoot syndrome. The video is always blurry and no one can ever hold the camera still. Why do you have to try and make out words that are not there? I know it must be exciting to believe in unknown paranormal stuff but until someone can start taking clear videos and stop shaking the camera like theyre on a galloping horse, then I retain my nonbelief. Give me undeniable proof. When a person dies, why the hell would they want to stick around on earth stuck in a loop forever. No thanks! I like to believe that my parents and other family members moved on and aren't shaking chains in some rundown house spooking renters. Not trying to be disrespectful, but really...use common sense.
The loops are residual energy, not active energy. Active energy is when someone reaches out to give you info, warn you off something. Traumatic, sudden deaths could lead to the person not knowing they're dead and hanging around. Also people who fear hell may not leave the earth. Just because you are not allowing yourself to experience things doesn't mean it isn't happening around you. I've proven to many sceptics just how real so-called paranormal activity is. I don't believe it's paranormal at all, I believe it's just science we don't understand yet. Peace and love.

I swear that on two of them I heard "I don't trust" & "They don't trust you" and on another I heard "Go now".
