This was very funny! 😁 Through your videos we get to know about not only you but your family as well. It's wonderful watching you all three together.
If kicking was for real, then a karate practitioner has advantages. One more thing I would like to as in your season two first episode, you explained one master telling that karate evolved as a fight of close contact as Asian people are usually smaller than western people. I would like to see those moves, when someone grabs a karate fighter as your brother did.

  • @FinalWarsGodjira

This video was very entertaining, and you really hit the nail on the head at the start while going over the rules. Old school Karate practitioners/masters train to use their whole body as a weapon for self defense, with the goal to end the fight quickly by any means without being hurt in the process IF they can not reason with the would be attacker before coming to blows. Having to fight and use their deadly techniques is a last resort that no master or practitioner wants to ever do but trains so the body and mind is ready. MMA fighters train to fight and test their fighting skills against another fighter in a combative sport contest. They are not trying to kill or cripple the other person, it's not a life or death situation/fight. This idea in itself kinda goes against the main principal and teachings of traditional / old school Karate to never use your karate training against another person unless there is no other choice. MMA fighters train to go 3 to 5 5 min rounds in their fights. It's not the goal for it to last that long, but they have to be ready to go into the deep water in case, or be destroyed by the other fighter that was prepared. In other words it will be easier for the MMA guy to "blow up" the Karate guy because of the difference in cardio. MMA fighters also learn how to take a punch to the face, doesn't matter how good they are, they are going up against another trained fighter, they are going to get punched in the face. Some Karate practitioners train and harder the body (old school Japanese training), but I have yet to see or read about any training to "harden" the face. It's also something that you really can't train for, it's learned by experience. Now the wraps, gloves, and protective gear (mouth piece, cup) used by MMA fighters in the ring again would put them at an advantage, but at a huge disadvantage in a street fight. If they are not adding training to "harden" the fist/hands, striking someone at full power without the wraps could lead to a broken hand/knuckle. The same advantage/disadvantage would also apply to the strikes that can be done in the ring vs a street fight. Palm strikes to the face, finger jab to the eyes, attacks to the groin, un-gloved fist, etc. Karate practitioners are train to use all of these, while MMA train to NOT use them as it would lead to a DQ. This could affect the muscle memory/react without thinking moments in the fight. This comment has already got to the point where most people won't read it, so to end the whole Karate vs MMA thing is kinda silly. Don't limit yourself to only learning one or the other and being in that "camp" Learn all that you can about combat and self defense, and apply what works best for you to better yourself, which at the end of the day is the true reason of any Martial art.
