Nothing will ever be better than this

You know when the clock strikes 4 here there’ll be someone just like her, sitting in the same position overlooking a parking lot, satisfying their nicotine addiction with a cigarette on their break. She sits outside when she can. Not often because it rains so much enough to know what it looks like. She tells herself that one day she’ll get out but not today. The humid air left by rain clings to her skin but she doesn’t mind. She never intended to work in a grocery store for so long but this is life now. And nothing ever gets better than this.
She doesn’t believe in god but never really thinks about it. Her eye bags are heavy and purple, and I bet she’s tired. Her shoes are dirty and she moves in this groggy manner that would make anyone uncomfortable. But I don’t mind. When she’s on her break overlooking that parking lot it feels like time doesn’t move even though everything happens there. Even her. The shopping carts of cold steel grab my attention and I care even less because, this is life now, and nothing will ever be better than this.
