That little double tap on the table that John does, after each intro (00:41 in this video) makes me smile for some reason. Makes me feel like these projects are very achievable, even before I begin mine. 🙂
I have a lower unit with a Bob's intake on it. I was going to ship it to them to have some welding and a rebuild done but the shipping is insane. I'm going to use a local welder and overhaul it myself, thanks for the video. I needed to know how the drive shaft was connected. I'll be ordering a seal kit and a few other bits pretty soon. 👍🏻
Hi John, Great videos, really informative and well done. I may have missed this on a previous video. On some parts that may required disassembly, why do you use red Loctite rather than blue? Please keep the videos coming. Thank you.
You show a parts kit with 20 or so washers and seals yet you only used 4 in your rebuild. Where do the rest of them go? I don't want to order the water pump seals if they are included. Love the videos.
Why can't you have replaced the input seal the same way you did in the 40hp 2 stroke video you guys made? Just popping the seal carrier, replacing the seals/o ring and popping it back in. I believe it is the same setup so not sure why you disassembled the whole shaft.

GREAT INFO. Worked for my 50 hp lower end. THANKS

Won’t this damage the upper driveshaft bearing because the seal carrier is being pressed on by the outer race?
hello I have a 2000 40HP mercury 4 stroke OT229881/1F40412YD is the 823547A2 seal kit good for both input shaft seal and prop seal replacements?
What size is the pinion nut? None of my wrenches/sockets seem to fit?
You guys sent me a broken part.
