I've been thinking of this since battery day and to me Model A alone seems fitting for their most affordable car.

Agreed. I'm not convinced this a real Tesla render. First Tesla would not put a visor over the back window. That is popular in the auto industry, but it increases drag. Tesla will resist this trend because they always minimize drag. Also, Tesla does not use the fin antenna on the back of any of their current cars. The antenna is hidden.

For those of use who live in apartments, charging at home isn't possible in most cases, so having charging stations nearby is necessary.

Lower accelerations = lower power consumption = need for smaller battery = cost savings. If anything its a city car.
Pros: Faster charging, affordable (as in a long term) and practical for getting around. Given the range is a real bonus making this car even more capable.

I agree, but few will accept a "city car" only in the usa. You can drive cross country in a Toyota Yaris. You can cut top end performance. Slower 0 to 60 times, lower top speeds, lower horsepower. Etc Americans don't want. City only car. I really can't see americans accepting anything less then 250 to 275 mile range.

The power to weight ratio would be pretty sick
Renault Zoe and other small EV hatchbacks in Europe seem to manage fine - I don’t expect it to have 350 mile range or 0-60 in 1.99secs (would be nice but not required by 99.9999999% of small hatchback drivers) - a real world range of 200-250 miles range is enough for me if they chuck in free superchargers too
A Model 2 hatchback will sell very well in Britain and Europe as a whole. It could even tempt me to change from my Golf which I’m picking up on Monday and go electric for the first time when I change my car in 2024.

Same I want to put a deposit down for this one, been itching to get model 3 but tight ass me it doesn't quite add up for my mileage, I have a small vauxhall and don't want long range as hell nothing is really that far in Britain.

A big difference between Tesla and other automakers is that Tesla makes EVs people WANT. A fantastic supercharging network to help you on long road trips helps too! There's a reason why people own multiple Tesla EVs in their driveway. Great video!

Somebody here watches "Dr. Know It All". His argument was that phonetically it would be something close to a Model A but believes it will be a Model "8" in a Tesla-stylized font (think how Tesla does the letter "S") looking similar to the letter A.

Thanks! If you mean would I wait for the Model Y to be updated, I personally would if I could. HEPA filter, heated steering wheel and new center console all exist on the Model Y in china, so it feels imminent here. However, I don't want that to be the reason you wait, and then it never comes. It's always hard to time with Tesla
@@RyanShawtech One thing Ive noticed with Tesla (why I still havent purchased one) is because they always seem to be on the verge of some new feature or a new model altogether. Between waiting for the updated battery pack and FSD, the suspense is killing me! I cant hold out much longer!

With this integrated structural battery pack - will they be able to replace a bad cell or cell(s) which can have a very detrimental effect on the overall pack if not fixed?
Not easily? Though they currently can't either?
@@CED99 I'm not sure how it works with current pack or projected to be honest - just read of some who had issues with a few dead cells adversely affecting the while pack. Old cells seems to be easier to swap, but I honestly don't know.
The $25k price point is what will catapult Tesla's into everyday life. Model 3 is just too expensive for many people.
It’s rather that the model 3 is to poor to justify its pricetag. In Sweden it’s 82’000 euros (price of a luxury car).

When you say "can't make a decent range EV for much less than the Model 3...".
In the UK, the standard range M3 retails at about £40K, after incentives. The SAIC MG5 station wagon with a 50kWh battery (200 WLTP mile range) retails at about £21K after incentives. (Both prices include our sales taxes.)

the 2 could be done super quick if they use the bottom of the 3 and just put different body on top that is shaped like a hot hatch. Personally I like the look of it. It would naturally be shorter because the rear wheels would be much closer to the rear of the car as hatchs tend to be. Even the hood could be shorter as well. I am defintely going to be all over that car when its released!
The chassis needs to be cheaper though so it wont just be a rebody 3. I would expect the 2 to be 10k cheaper than a similar 3.
All the Tesla models be like:

My 220 mile range model 3 is at 205 miles of max range 20k miles later. I wonder how this smaller batter would operate.

That assumes the US-DOT will allow mass import of Chinese cars. They haven't yet, as China has many cheap EVs in production for years.
Once that nut is cracked, as it was with scooters then motorcycles, expect Ford, GM, Nissan, Honda and Toyota to outsource mfg to China and just be an importer of cars, but builder is trucks.
China built computer car (watching, listening and learning) in the hands of millions of US executives and government staffers.
What could go wrong. It's not like phones and Alexa have been watching, listening and tracking.
You won't get a smaller Tesla in the US - you don't sell enough smaller cars, even VW won't be selling the id3. Here in the UK and Europe, even an M3 is classed as a large vehicle as our roads and car parking spaces are smaller.

Small cars such as the Toyota Yaris, Chevy Spark, Nissan Versa, Toyota Corolla are all over the USA. Up until 2015, the Fiat 500 was selling very well in America. Buyers with no family are still buying small economy car.

Australia has the Mazda 3 plus the Mazda 2 (which is the smaller sized hatch) and we have the Tesla Model 3. We also have Mercedes S and Tesla Model S. The naming conventions seem to be a huge headache for manufacturers trying to assign nomenclatures to their products!

Sorry Ryan, my real question is: have you done an evaluation of Tesla's carbon footprint? Drive CF would be low and even very low if powered by alternative energy charge stations. Production CF may be high for awhile as casting and automated factory and downstream supply chain CFs would lag and battery CF seems it would be very high. But what's the real number? Thanks, S.

H is today's widely used acronym for hybrid. Can't imagine Elon ever using the letter H.
The refreshed Model S is not ahead of schedule. It was the Model S Plaid+ (renamed from just Plaid) that was promised at the end of 2021 and that is still where it stands. The Plaid+ is dependent on volume production of the 4680 cells. It remains to be seen if the Plaid+ shows up before late 2021.
14:48 is not the battery pack, much too small. More likely the pack takes up the area underneath the cab and all the way back to the first set of drive wheels.
Tesla needs to fix it's very poor service soon. Just bought a Niro EV instead of another Tesla due to this.
But Niro is not in the same segment.

If I can fit my frame in there and it still seats 5, I’ll get that instead of that bizarre new Model S. My wife refuses to drive my current Model S so a compact would be a lot friendlier for her.

I’m thinking to buy new Tesla mode X , But there is no supercharger close to me :( I’m living south Brooklyn NYC ( close to Brighton beach) , the closest one to me is JFK 14miles ( always traffic )

could it be a 2 door? that's what I see when I look at the drawing, or if it's a 4-door I don't expect it to be big. It will probably be the size of a Hyundai i10.
In the conference call Tesla said that the cash they have has allowed them to speed up acquisitions. I take that to mean that they can move development and production timelines up. Most of the new cash came after Battery Day so the timelines should be faster unless there is another reason that would slow it down.
Great information as usual, just a small clarification: the Tesla website in Europe used to say that Model Y production would start in ”early 2021”. Well it’s early 2021 and I guess they had to update the website. If you have been following the progress of Giga factory Berlin, It’s obvious that unless if Tesla was going to build Model Y in a tent, ”early 2021” was never going to happen. Filings to German authorities claim that production will start in July. Also, remember Elons tweet about MY production in Berlin and that all the new tech comes with a ”significant production risk”. MY from Berlin will be a completely different car compared to MY from Fremont or Shanghai.

That design works !
The answer for superchargers is partnering with hotel chains. Imagine every parking space in every major hotel chain had a charging station. When I take a long trip in the US, I always stay at a hotel along the way, so it would work GREAT to be fully charged the next morning before setting off again.

I was hoping to hear more about the final Cybertruck design since Elon mentioned the design phase was complete recently.
South of England has one 13kw tesla charger within a 2 hour drive, 70 other charges most are not compatible. I've seen one tesla stranded in Bournemouth. I just don't see why they fit such slow chargers around me.

I agree with Elon's original mileage estimate that EV's must have a minimum 250mi. But now with 4680 batteries that a 300mi for all vehicles will be the bottom end. I expect for example the Model Y base at 300 and LR at 400-450miles. I'll still buy the Model Y LR now as long as I get the the Die Cast Model.
