A wonderful interpretation and listening experience. I like how the ostinato pattern is always clear when present, it doesn't overshadow melody but adds so much to mood of piece.

A very vivid and passionate interpretation from Hélène Grimaud, although I'm surprised that a pianist of her high calibre takes bars 21, 53 and 106 (and similar) at a noticeably slower tempo than the rest of the piece. Brahms would have marked it so, if he'd wished. By all means put in some breathing places and slackening of tempi at expressive moments as this is, of course, a Romantic period piece, but not a change of the main tempo in such a work.

And yet, Helene Grimaud is considered one of the very best interpreters of Brahms.
