In 1998, the Philippines hosted the 3rd Asia Song Festival. Ms. Lani Misalucha interpreted the Philippine entry in the Original Song Category - Jungee Marcelo's HANDLE WITH CARE - and the Evergreen Category - Freddie Aguilar's ANAK. The Organizing Committee made sure that history would be created in this international competition - a live band accompanying all song entries. The 1998 Asia Song Festival Philippines was a huge accomplishment of KATHA, the Organization of Filipino Composers.
The Philippines dominated Asia Song Festival's Best Interpreter Category, winning in 1996-Bali, Indonesia (Ima Castro), 1997-Hong Kong (Jaya), 1998-Philippines (Lani Misalucha) and 1999-Malaysia (Dessa).

Miss Queen Lani Misalucha was unquestionable great as a singer ang she deserved to win as Best Interpreter. Comment lang po sana ako dun sa song. Handle With Care was a real winning and beautiful song. I just noticed that the key given was too low as in way too low for Miss Lani po. ❤️🙏

Lani Misalucha won the best singer. This was the third times the Philippines won "Best Singer" in this singing contest. A year after, the Philippines won again best singer the fourth time.

A most heartfelt thank you to Mr Danny for putting up this precious memory for many. I had been hoping to see it since 2000 when I learned about Singapore’s winning the Grand Prize.
I’m sure among all, Tanya Chua (or 蔡健雅 as she is known to most Asian Countries) is definitely one of the newest, since she just debuted in December 1997.
But I’m grateful for the Award as it gave the opportunity needed for this young singer songwriter to learn and further educated herself with music and prepared her for bigger roles in Asia. Today, Tanya Chua has became one of the respected musicians in Asia and I would think this is definitely one of the defining moments for her in her career transforming a self-taught newbie into a professional musician.
Some fun realisation:
Before Elsa realised her power and be on the Disney Movie “Frozen”, she was one of the contestants from 1998 Asia Song Festival and won best singer... she’s now a legend for her song “Let it Go”

Anak is very beautiful song and grande. The sound is very familiar. It reminds me on the song of Caravan of Richard Page and Kitaro.
I remember that day watching it live telecasts on television, I was rooting for the entry from Korea to win. It was that day when I realised that not all best performances and performers were from the Philippines.
And when they announced Singapore, I was like hmmm.. but oh well the judges have chosen their winner’s, respect.
Tama po. Dapat talaga tayo magrespeto sa desisyon ng mga Hurado. Sa pagkaka-alam ko It's a Song/Composer Contest. Yung mensahe ng song ang jina-judge hindi yung kagaling ng singer. Kaya siguro, hiwalay ang Best Singer na Champion at ang Grand prize.

I’m not sure if this will make you feel better but thankful to this Grand Prize, a new singer songwriter has the opportunity to study music in LA, America in 1998 and Tanya Chua now is a well respected multi awards winning Singer Songwriter Producer singing both English and Mandarin known in many parts of Asia.
She was just a newbie then, debuting in December 1997 and self-taught herself guitar and songwriting, so I think the Grand Prize did help Asia create a new talent by giving her the opportunity to learn and grow.
Thank you Sir Danny Tan. I’ve been searching Lani’s version of Anak for the longest time. Good to reminisce my college life watching this event on tv and eyeing for Lani’s winning of best singer.
This video is proof on why an Asian version of Eurovision Song Contest will be cool! Thing is, this video's also a time capsule when China, HK & Taiwan used to be in friendly non-political competition. I wish we have that again.

sorry but the song is not winnable. Lani's voice is too strong for the song and cant showcase her true voice....imagine if she sings her recorded songs here. she will cover the whole theatre with her dynamic voice.
