    In my opinion you have probably chosen the best bass out there for the money. I had an Ibanez back in the mid 90's, and what a fantastic bass that bass was; Enjoy it, and Good Luck.

    Thank you for this real life review. No bells, whistles, flashing lights, or other bs....just the bass and its sounds. Great!

    Congrats on your new purchase. 😊👍🎸 I'm a huge Ibanez fan. I have a 405, 505, & 2 - 805's(Amber & DTF) . I love that "in your face" growl. Love the Caribbean colors on yours.

    Delighted for you! I bought the one under this, the SR 600e. I liked the solid fixed bridge more, plus the ash wood used! I just upgraded the turners. I think they are built in the same shop. Same pickups as well. Love the finish on yours thou 🙂

    Does this bass have preamp built in?

  • @mtlmark75

    Great looking bass. The nordstrand pickups are fantastic, too bad Ibanez loves putting the crap preamp in all their basses. I put an Aguilar preamp in my SR650 with the Bartolini pickups and it was 100 percent improvement.
    Man that color is great now I want a five string, congrats dude!

      The custom Ibanez preamp is perfect. Ive put an Aguilar OBP-3 on my Prestige but changed my mind and put back the original preamp because its just more usable with the the 3 mid frequency selection and bass control. With the Aguilar ive found the bass control was way too much boomy.

      I’m looking into the new Ibanez Prestige 5 string at Sweetwater. I’ve got short fingers and just have a easy neck to play. How’s the neck on this bass and the prestige? I have a 1993 Ibanez SR 4 string and the neck is perfect

    Hi please can you check the onboard preamp and tell what output use your bass from factory... The VM3 or the BEQ3?... The pcb preamp have two outputs... Thanks

    Lovely looking bass. 16.5 string spacing and slap popping will take some getting used to. Sounds like the neck needs to be tightened to straighten neck out a little. Buzzy frets should go away. Might have to raise a few strings.
    Them Ibanez basses are pretty snazzy. Keep it clean Sir and enjoy that beauty. P.s. mid freq is 250 450 700

    I’m looking for a lightweight 5 string to get started. Is that bass heavy?

    • @patroche1266
      @patroche1266  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think it's heavy, as far as 5 strings go. If I recall, the weight of this particular one was just over 8 lbs. The 4 available ranged from like 7.9 to 8.4 lbs. It's not as light as my 4 string SR500, but Ibanez makes some of the lightest basses out there.

    Man, I'm jealous. love the color. I play the SR650 and love it. I do play with tape wounds. Have been wanting to get a 5 sting bass too. How is the transition going? I've picked them up over the years and always seem to fumble around a bit. I just never spent the time to "get used" to it.

    • @patroche1266
      @patroche1266  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Playing guitar for so long, it's almost seamless, but you do have to get used to the spacing. I'm noticing that you can play all the same scales you already know and depending where you start playing that scale, either on the E or B string, you just have to remember different notes on i string, either the lowest string, or the highest string (respectively) so it's not bad at all. Maybe I can do a video to demonstrate this if it's not really clear in text. The pros far outweigh the cons IMO. Though I still like playing a 4 string P-bass when necessary.

    • @Synsizer
      @Synsizer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It IS a bit awkward in the very beginning. Especially the spacing. If you have time to practice a fair bit, you should get used to it pretty quick. I couldn't believe how much I loved it after the transition. Less jumping around and awesome lows when using the B.

    Great vid man! I am thinking about this one. On this and other vids, the color looks very nice, but on all the internet pics (stores) they look REALLY dull, drab and lifeless. I know it is a flat finish, not a gloss, but in your opinion what is it like in person? What color is in the middle? Can't tell from pics if it is yellow, brownish or whiteish. Super appreciate if you have time to answer. Thx for the vid!

    • @patroche1266
      @patroche1266  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, man. Funny thing.. This bass had fret sprout and I soon realized it was lacerating my fretting hand, so instead of taking care of that, SweetWater just sent me a whole new one. So i have now effectively seen two of these, and should have a good opinion on this for you. The finish is definitely "dull" if you are referring to a "luster" or "shine" such as a fender lacquer coating. From far away I think this is great for your audience because nobody appreciates a melted retina from unexpected glare off of your instrument anyhow. If you look at it up close, it looks like wood, you know, it's just.. a nice piece of wood.. with a coloring that's like soaked into it, not even painted on top the way you're probably thinking, although the little gold and brown separator piece that defines the back from the front, that almost looks hand painted.. The color on teh back just makes me feel good, I don't know what it is, it feel so REAL. The "burl" of the body and texture of the true wood is all there, on the neck you can feel every crevice, there are little porous spots all over like you see on beach wood that washed up on the shore, but it clearly has some VERy thin color/protectant on it, but you can't feel it... and I'll bet overtime I'll be able to feel the slightest raise of any growth rings or whatever as it settles into different environments.. I mean, it's meant to feel like an extension of you. It's still a tree, the neck, the body, it all feels like it's a bare piece of wood, but it's colored. Think about when you put food coloring in a plant, the plant turned a color, you didn't paint the leaves it was just that color; that's what this... is like... LOL that's how I can explain it with words fo you, hope that helps!

    • @patroche1266
      @patroche1266  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The middle is more of an original wood grain color so, brownish, but as it fades to blue it does sort of have some yellowness comparatively speaking.. it looks the same as in my video to me on my screen.. Not white at all.

      @@patroche1266 Wow, great reply Pat! Thx so much. I may be ordering this one in about a week or so. They have one (same line, slightly different version) coming in with a gloss finish and DCB (aggies) pickups that I thought about waiting on, but I seem to much prefer the sound of the Nordstrands. The DCB's seem to have no bite to them. Not nutz about the hum, but it seems like it will be minimal or at least tolerable. Again, thx and I appreciate your quick response. "Chuck"

    • @patroche1266
      @patroche1266  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Synsizer Ya, I don't think you can go wrong either way, but I also liked and chose the Nordstrands with an Ibby bass, the big singles seem to have that little something you can always dial back, but you can't find or add in with others like Bartolini or Aggy soapbars! I do kind of wish a bass like this could also coil tap, but you can't do that with a big single, it's just its own thing.

    • @Synsizer
      @Synsizer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patroche1266 My original choice was a Sire because of the coil tap, but the couple models they had that I liked are sold out and could be months coming in. I think this one should do the trick. Thx for the responses!
