As an Iranian who fled the 1979 Revolution, please believe me that the lyrics "nothing frightens me more, than religion at my door" resounds within me in a painfully poignant way.

One of my favorites on Paris 1919-(to me, this is also the best version of the song). Everything fits so nicely and beautifully together, and often lures me into a world of wonderful creativity and imagery that's very inspirational. I've always loved the cover of this album to - very ahead of its time-(i.e. the back cover, which is like a video in itself!..;)

    If the sacheting of gentlemen
Gives you grievance now and then
What's needed are some memories of plaining lakes
Those plaining lakes will surely calm you down
    Nothing frightens me more
    Than religion at my door
    I never answer panic knocking
Falling down the stairs upon the law
    What law?
    There's a law for everything
For elephants that sing to keep
The cows that agriculture won't allow
Hanky-panky know how, hanky-panky know how
    Hanky-panky know how
    There's a name for everything
For elephants that sing to keep

Aside from the fact that it's gorgeous and beyond category, to call anything John Cale has been associated with, "Hippie," means you've ignored his entire career. Which is over 50 years and going strong. This album is in my Top Ten Of All Time. Can't say it any clearer than that.

"Nothing Frightens Me More Than Religion At My Door" - What a line that is, I find it sums up just how I feel when some bizarrely cheerful face rolls up at my front door clutching a bible and with little leaflets to hand out... Just wish they'd keep their odd theories to themselves... But John obviously feels the same way I do... This is a truly great song from the immense album 'PARIS 1919'... John has a slew of great albums but this may well be his finest , it's certainly the one I play the most often.

I prefer John Cale to Leonard Cohen, yet both are in a league by themselves. I wish that John had, from time to time, returned to the electric viola, as in "Heroin" by the Velvet Underground & Nico.

After hearing the word Sacheting in a rap song, it makes more sense context wise. The start is like his feeling towards seeing mainstream getting attention and rewarded and taking you to an alternate reality that doesn’t require all that. It seems this is that deep.
