This is a man who has dedicated, pretty much, the entirety of his life to playing the guitar at the exclusion almost everything else. That is the only way to be that amazing. That's not to say he didn't start out with an inordinate amount of talent as well. We should not be discouraged from playing our guitars after watching him play but take inspiration and joy from a man who is such a part of his guitar and its rhythm they are inseparable. Guitar Boogie, much as I love it, unfortunately only gets to show a fraction of the talent Tommy has. To anyone who argues that it is devoid of feeling, get over yourselves and listen to the songs where Tommy actually pours his heart and soul into. Judge him how you wish, but I dare you to find another man who has this level of skill and entertains the audience in the meantime. Far too many force calm and make you listen to them, Tommy entertains, makes you laugh and moves you all in one go!
I've seen him three times in the last 4 years- each show was different, and each show was amazing. A couple of my friends had a chance to spend time with him- apparently, a great guy who loves what he does. If only we could all say the same.
the augmented improvisations at the beginning of this piece simply masterful. Takes some real musical genius to pull that out of that hat on the fly as he does.
Also, find a man who possesses these qualities and is as accommodating to his fans as Tommy is. I defy any man to show another guitarist that plays with his fans as much as Tommy!
David. I have been playing guitar since 1966 and must disagree with your comments like "juvenile techniques." He plays at master skill level for sure! He very much has heart for the instrument. I can hear and feel it. He is not playing your music style so you don't appreciate it. Like people who failed to understand what Hendrix was doing. I watched Tommy play some beautiful classical pieces on PBS. This tune was for showmanship only, watch some other videos.
If I could have played even 1/3 as well, I would never have considered doing anything else with my life. I would have known I was only here to play guitar.
Why can't the fighters and moaners on You Tube just enjoy the video. Yes Tommy is a bit of a showman but so what! That is his thing and there is no doubt he can play. Like the TV. If it's not to your liking......change the channel or switch off.
