Since you like Orihime, I thought I'd give you a heads up - original anime director severely underestimated Orihime's importance to the story for the first few arcs and messed up her scenes, sometimes moving her lines to other characters, sometimes just outright deleting scenes that fleshed her out (for example, she was not afraid of Ichigo in her first appearance, it doesn't make sense since they knew each other from when her brother died, she actually finds him funny instead of scary). It's just minor stuff but it does build up her character so check out the manga someday if you want to see a more accurate picture of her.

There's a certain gravitas to the manga that the anime fails to emulate sometimes (like having an actual verse of poetry spoken by a character at the start of every volume, or giving them nicknames/profiles/symbolism that hint at their overall themes, etc). It's this vibe that modern shounen like Demon Slayer and JJK have followed, which is why Bleach is said to have so much influence on newer titles despite not being as "popular" as the other Big 3.
The chains are important, they connect the body and the soul, what happened in this chapter is that orihime's soul was ejected from her body but without the chain breaking, due to her being a soul temporally she was able to see her brother and Ichigo, afterwards Rukia was able to put her inside her body again as the chain that connects to her body was not broken. When you see one character with a broken chain it means they are the soul of dead person, their body died so their soul got ejected from the body and the chain broke, so they are souls but without a body, meaning dead. Those broken chains also become more broken as time goes on, when the last link breaks off from your chest a hole opens in your chest and you become a hollow. That is the reason he send off the kid to soul society, the kid was a actually some dead kid soul, and by sending them there they no longer can become hollows, Ichigo when is dressed in black is actually just his soul, he leaves his souless body behind, unconscious. The reason why he doesn't have a chain even trough he is alive is because the chain is invisible or something, technically it is still ther and later we got to see it. To become a real soul reaper that chain has to break and connect both ends to your own soul.
