    Manjaro is so stable and fine to work with, I use it in our dental practice on several machines. Would recommend the european government to promote this OS and use it for beeing more independent. Combined with a thick budget to the creators of Manjaro.

      TBH Arch most stable then Manjaro since Manjaro uses unstable branch of Arch while in Arch you will have the stable release set as default .

    • @catchnkill
      @catchnkill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not true. Manjaro does not use Arch unstable branch by default. You can choose that option though. Manjaro will take the unstable branch and does testing on it. When it is under testing, it is on a testing branch. When testing completes, the package will be put into stable branch. Manjaro uses stable branch by default.

    Manjaro has been my daily driver for over 5 yrs now. Bought a laptop 2.5 yrs ago. As soon as I got it home I opened it up, put in an nvme drive, installed manjaro kde and it is still running like new.
    I have never had any operating system go 2 yrs plus without doing a clean install. And have zero doubts 2 yrs from now it will still be going strong on the same install. Manjaro just works, rock solid!

I was a hardcore Gentoo user years ago, but got away from it because it tends to be a PITA. Manjaro is what I moved to once I've completely abandoned Windows, and virtualizing Linux on it. I started off perhaps overly aware of the attitude and stigma towards Arch, and the first thing I've done is set up timeshift; I was sure that it would break eventually. I'm happy to say that I've calmed down significantly, perhaps even to the point of ignorance in certain actions I take with it, because timeshift provided me with extra confidence and security, and the fact that I haven't had to restore a backup since installing it.

    @joschafinger126 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    About half a year ago or so Iswitched to Manjaro-Stable after years of Ubuntu, and I won't be going back or pass on to anything else for quite a while.
    Stability: I haven't seen any difference between Ubuntu and Manjaro yet. It's rock-solid on the stable channel. There is an issue with newer kernels and my old Nvidia GPU, but that's unrelated to Manjaro.
    AUR support via terminal: no trouble. Pamac takes care of that. Using "pamac search -a [search term]", then " pamac build [packagename]", it's done.
    DEs: I used to have some issues with GNOME, but they started while I was still using Ubuntu, then persisted after the switch. Now I use KDE Plasma, and I'm very happy with it. I haven't tried Xfce, as I'm not a fan of it simply because it's the DE I use at work. No trouble at all, though the Latte dock seems to be lagging behind a bit (might have been fixed by now, I'm using Cairo at the moment).
    Community support: at times, the tone can be a bit rougher than what's usual with Ubuntu, and there are, it seems, a few more tricksters afoot. Also, sometimes it's harder to find the right answer in the forums and other documentation. Both points might well be down to Manjaro being somewhat less beginner-oriented than Ubuntu, with experienced users making up a greater proportion of us. It's quite, quite good, though, and most people are eager to help.
    On the whole, if you're interested in using an Arch-based distro but can't or won't go to the lengths installing and maintaining vanilla Arch can entail, or if you're looking for a stable yet pretty cutting-edge distro with easy customisability, give Manjaro a shot.

    Running Manjaro as my daily driver for a year now, and im lovin it. And indeed as long as you dont update via pamac things usually dont break.
    This distro really has potential, lets hope their move to go corporate will turn out well for them.

    I recall installing Architect one time, I think with a Cinnamon DE. It ran well. No definite problems that I recall. Oh, the long time with a black screen happens to me with all arch-based distros I've used. I suspect it is testing the hard drive and or the source disk without letting you know what is going on. I must have rebooted several times first time I encountered that before I realized that I just needed to wait long enough. Which does seem forever! But it does eventually move on. Good stuff. I'm going to be installing it soon into a VB in order to test for new users.

    I like Manjaro and have used it for quite some time. I use it with kdenlive as a editing system for video and for Handbrake while I am editing my family videos that I am recording from VHS tapes with a capture box on my MX-19 box. I record on MX with OBS Studio and transfer the raw video to Manjaro and edit it in kdenlive and Handbrake to compress and do there rendering as the system is a 6 core 16gig system... It is a great way to get this project done. I can do 2 things at the same time... :-D

They seem to be on/off pamac maintenance, judging from how much I have to re-run the update in terminal, but that's not as problematic as it sounds. Although, due to this, Manjaro better fits tinkerers and explorers than beginners. Not the demographic, not a problem.

    Hello Sir, I have just installed the manjaro with the BrtFs filesystem. Everything works just fine except one thing. If you look at the file system, with Thunar or so, in debian based distro's like ubuntu there is a folder /media/. In Manjaro there is no such folder. It seems to be behind the /run/ folder. That is a problem with some applications that run on both distro's because the link to /run/media/....shared folder is not the same as /media/....shared folder.

    Hi OTB. If you are planning to review the UBUNTU Deepin respin, please do it with the Fedora Deepin version, the latter is more complete. By more complete, one can mouse-right-click on the corners and add some extra functionality.
    When you last reviewed Deep, one mode that you displayed for the viewers was the "Gnome all" mode. At that time, you missed an additional option when that mode is presented. It is the cross hatch icon about 2.5cm from each corner of the left corner. It changes the "Gnome all" mode to a "Gnome-all" mode with categories A very practical view to quickly find an application of choice. There was a comment (another previewer) that could not see the terminal icon. I just mouse-right-clicked it over the desktop and selected terminal. It was there.
    I tried to go into the mindset of the Ubuntu Deepin respin developers and arrived at two considerations -- 1) They forgot to make a desktop icon or 2) they intentionally omitted the desktop icon, as new users to Linux do not need to venture there.
    Have a great Easter. The virus hasw kept me home the past 30 days. My provincial government tells me, it will last to 3 May or longer. The 'not installing' issue may have been a Calamares issue? I assume the installer was based on Calamares? I installed three versions of Sparky on metal recently and the erase and install option failed on me every time, exactly how it just failed for you in Manjaro, but the manual partitioning option worked perfectly. What I do like about Manjaro is that it is easy to install and set up and that you can go from one LTS kernel to the next really easily. Personally, I only do updates by going to TTY (Ctl-Alt-F2) as I just found it to be the safest option for updating Manjaro. Also have to say that I'm not really a fan of pure Arch or pure Debian :) I'm simply just not that technical... nor do I necessarily want to be lol.

    I could never get into the right update rhythm with Manjaro, the update system (pacman) kept breaking and locking itself up. Apparently it does that if you don't update often enough, or update too often. I expect better from such a crucial component of a distro, especially after long usage of synaptic on Debian-derived distros with far fewer troubles (and what troubles I had didn't need CLI intervention like Manjaro routinely did). Normal people have the wrong ideas about it because they don’t see it and don’t understand it. People want solutions to their lives from the electronics they carry. Marketing. Take Apple. I suspect that the uproar with regard to FreeOffice was not only about it being included but also about the Manjaro-users not trusting the motive which the Manjaro team gave. The Manjaro team claimed that FreeOffice is better than LibreOffice and that is simply not true. In my language there is the expression that you have to sit still if you are getting shaved, it is self-explanatory. The Manjaro-team should immediately have done a mea culpa and have been straightforward with their reasons. Back then I used Manjaro, now I use Arch. This was not the only reason why I switched but it might have contributed to it.
    I don't mind Manjaro having become a business, it depends on the execution whether or not I tolerate it. Bundling proprietary software which is useless unless you buy it? No. Offering that? No. Offering consultancy to companies who want to use Linux? Sure. Working together with some OEM/ODM for laptops/desktops (like System76)? Sure.
