I managed to fit over 75 films in this one, a personal record! If you want to know the title of a film, you can find them in the subtitles. What are your favorite movie warriors?

Leon: The Professional assassin? Christian Bale in The Prestige, he fights in his own way. Dr Manhattan in Watchmen. Tom Hanks in saving private ryan. The two snipers in black hawk down who are defending the downed blackbird. Denzel Washington in Man on fire. Ripley...in Alien.

I totally forgot to say, this is fantastic work. You know its funny, I watched an interview with Gary Oldman about Darkest hour. He suggested that someone interweaves Darkest Hour with Dunkirk. I can't think of a better channel to do this than yours. Would make for really interesting viewing.

I have to say the DC Trinity of Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman, especially since I grew up watching the Justice League animated series.
As of right now, I think The Last Jedi really fits in relation to Luke, Rey, and Kylo Ren's characters and their struggles with the light. In allowing himself to be an absolutist for even a moment, Luke set Ben Solo on a dark path. Rey's hero worship of the Jedi is changed by her experiences and she becomes something more. Kylo Ren's conflicts play out so powerfully on screen, where his path will take him will be a very interesting one. The Star Wars saga has always been a struggle of light vs dark. The other parts of the franchise like the novels, comics, cartoons, and games gave much more room for more complex stories. It was so refreshing to see that on the big screen.

My suggestion does not fit your question.
I point to the mastery of one's mind as philosophized within the Buddhist tradition of Mindful Meditation. This perspective gains character when one overlays the metaphor of the quadrune brain, the housing of the mind which has evolved over the last 500 million years and is host to a vast ocean of karmic conditioning. Where this metaphor, the quadrune brain, simplifies down to four evolutionary layers of the Reptilian, the Middle Brain, and the Neo-Cortex which is subdivided to include the very recently evolved (in evolutionary time scale) PreFrontal Cortex. Even within the Buddhist tradition, one of their greatest philosophers pointed to the need to war for the purpose of the goal, awakening.
If one recognizes the legitimacy of J. Campbell's perspective on the roots of myth, initially described in his "Hero of a Thousand Faces", and fleshed out in his Mythos series of lectures just before his passing, then each of these reflect the path to mastery and awakening, or using Jung's term, individuation. These archetypes described by Carol Pearson in "The Heros Within" reflect what humanity is capable of attaining. All movies which ennoble this are worthy of suggestion.

If not for there being four set archetypes of King, Lover, Warrior, and Magician, I would propose a fifth: Archetype of the Builder.
The Archetype of the Builder is the drive to construct and to make things better. The Builder embodies discipline, industriousness, creativity, and altruism to improve the lives of themselves and others, despite the flawed, imperfect, and chaotic nature of the world.
The shadow version of the Builder would be the delusional Utopianist who tries to impose perfection on an imperfect world, even when such ideas ignore the flawed and imperfect nature of human beings, resulting in the suffering of others.

Can the warrior and the warrior spirit truly and finally be at peace within him or herself?

      @mohammadtausifrafi8277 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@darrin7684 I think they can if they have no pride or sense of egoistic achievement. There is evil: terrorism, imperialism, oppression. The warrior is needed. The warrior does not kill the dragon to be a hero, but only because they have to do it to fulfill their duties. They know there is nothing to be proud of as it is the bare minimum that must be done. The shadow warrior can get proud by this, not the warrior.

I think we will always be fighting for the best aspects of humanity, against the worst aspects of humanity. It does not change the fact that, good or bad, it is all part of humanity. We cannot fully accept ourselves while denying our unfavorable characteristics. It's like loving an individual, to love them and you must accept their flaws as well, otherwise you do not truly love THEM, you only love an idealized version of them. Of course this doesn't mean that we shouldn't strive to be our best selves and over come our flaws, I think the struggle with ones self is the most important battle that anyone will ever take part in.

The shadow is a tight passage, a narrow door, whose painful constriction no one is spared who goes down to the deep well. But one must learn to know oneself in order to know who one is. For what comes after the door is, surprisingly enough, a boundless expanse full of unprecedented uncertainty, with apparently no inside and no outside, no above and no beyond, no here nor there, no mine no thine, no good and no bad." - Carl Jung

«A villain is just some one else's hero. The only real difference is one wins and the other loses»
      Not necesarelly.
The positive shadow form is someone who uses one of the four energies in a way that only benefits him or herself, taking advantage and harming others. The tyrant, the bully, the trickster, the stalker... Those aren't anyone's hero, regardless of who is winning and losing. They are universally evil.
The negative shadow form is someone who is unable to use any of the four energies in any way, even if willing to do so, and therefore, is used and abused by the positive shadows. The weakling, manipulated by the tyrant; the abused, beaten by the bully; the naif, cheated by the trickster; and the impotent, incapable of love. They are universally victims.
You are thinking more in terms of politics, and not in archetypes, I believe.

My lip started quivering at the part about there being only “one dragon they’re facing.”
The human ego, the conceptual sense of separation and alienation. This is the one demon we all face. Our own mind’s conceptual projection keeps us trapped in fear. If we can defeat this ultimate monster, we can be free. We can come home. We can live lives of peace, joy, love, truth, awareness, and courage.

As a warrior nation we live in a world of black and white, the “you’re either with us or against us” mentality that blocks out nuance, possibilities or new thoughts. Rather than the freest nation we are bound and imprisoned by fear of our differences. My hope that videos like this can open up our minds to realize we are one people with similar desires, similar goals and similar fears. E pluribus Unum, the US motto sums that up quite neatly.

The ending was right on the money, my whole life I have trained in this mindset, no outlet for purpose in this modern era, but modern purpose to building and reestablishing community is at the utmost meaningful.
The last struggle is that against giving up our skills and ability to be self sustaining in the face of modern convenience, consumerism. Were shackles of dependency to an devolving economic system will inevitably consume our will and freedom as technology logs all of our habits in order to squeeze further profits out of everything we do, leading us and our kin into societal endentured servitude.

I had a conversation with an old girlfriend from highschool, 6 months ago. We were talking about our lives, and our "relation" about our own death. Her, she is a very handsome woman, but had, and still has, a lot of health problems, so she faced dire situations quite a lot of times, from childhood to now, in her early 30's. Me, I had no health problems, yet I lived in a very "blue collar" area, with many husbands and sons wounded or dead, because of bad working conditions, sometimes from war, and dealing with addiction, mostly alcohol, but also weed and stuff like that. I almost lost my father three times before my 25th birthday, and one of my sisters almost died because of drug overdose on her 19th birthday (sadly, I have few memories of her from my years, from 9 to 11, because she was recovering from addiction and was in a medical house). I saw many families broken, many mother without their son, sisters without brothers, and many friends who broke their lives because of that. If you have the refference, in Ernest Gaines novel, "A lesson before dying", the character of Vivian describes to Grant how it feels to be a woman in a social group where sons and men always go and never come home, because of work, violence and addiction. I'm not American, nor a Black person, yet it talked to me a lot. When I entered teenage years, I filled my head with stories of adventure, heroes, great quests and epic battle, and it gave me a compass of some sort. I tried to act as a hero would, in my daily life. I chose discipline, strengh and moral code, commitment and endurance. My old girlfriend, on the other hand, chose kindness, peace of mind and generosity, also freedom and independance, but always kept a deep link with people. We are still very different, but we could understand and help each others. After these vacations, she told me she saw valor in me, alongside courage, endurance and passion, loyalty and kindness. Maybe I started my real journey as a hero from this day. ^^

    I would like to draw a reference to Carlos Castaneda's The Four Enemies of a Knowledgeable man. I will let you make the references to the Warrior arcthetype yourselves;
The first is fear - It remains concealed at every turn, prowling and waiting, if the man runs away his enemy will have put an end to his quest and will become a bully or a harmless scared man. The man must stand up and face his fear to overcome it.
The second is clarity - Vanquishing fear will give the man clarity. However clarity also blinds as the man does not doubt himself. He will rush when he should be patient, he will be patient when he should rush. He will be a buoyant warrior or a clown. He needs to deify his clarity and realise it is only a point before his eyes and not the whole experience
The third is power - Through vanquishing fear & clarity the man will find his power. He can do whatever he wants, he will rule and control however he will also be turned into a cruel and capricious man, ultimately controlled by power. He has to realise the power he believes he has conquered is not really his
The fourth is old age - This enemy cannot be defeated but only kept at bay. As an old man he will sooth himself in tiredness, he will lie down and forget and allow his mind to dull. If a man can hold old age at bay, he will, if only for a brief moment be seen as a knowledgeable man.

    Excellent lesson. Thank you.
A difficult premise to reconcile is that "many things in the world need destroying in order for something new and more virtuous to appear" as the innocent may be harmed in the process. I am glad that you said that there can be non-violent warriors (journalists, scientist, etc) who lead change and renewal.

I just realized that I’ve been fighting trying to be a warrior because I did not want fighting to be what my life was about. And yet it is necessary sometimes in order for a greater change to take place. But my favorite part was the end how you talked about helping turn our enemies into friends. It’s so true. I don’t know if it’s always possible but it feels very important to get to the other side of all this. Thank you for creating all this content. I’m really getting a lot out of it. ❤️❤️❤️

For those who may enjoy seeing a modern day real life example of this warrior archetype, look up a UFC fighter named 'Khabib Nurmagomedov.'
For the uninitiated, skip any actual fights. Explore the man's character. He exhibits all of these positive qualities and is arguably the most respected man that has come through the UFC. And for the record, he won 29 fights, losses 0. Retired at his physical peak. And never overstated his words or actions. Exemplary nobility and humility. A very rare thing to be on display in modern society. Give it a chance.

During my work as a security contractor/volunteer mercenary protecting the helpless and facing the most evil people you can imagine, I came to realize, a true warrior must not only be willing to kill, no, because when faced with an equally-armed and equally-willed enemy, you face death in the prospect of stopping them from killing the innocent, so to be a warrior, you must be willing to die. That is the unromantic reality.
My first op was the most dangerous. It was confirmed: We had credible threats from serious groups, that they were going to kill our asset. Due to the nature of the op, we were really sticking our necks out. It was a volunteer op. I had to consider it. I had to confess my sins to people I had wronged, I had to pray and get right with God, as much as I was able, I did not "feel" saved, but I appealed to God, I cannot get more right with God, here I am.
So when that day came, I was with a few select men from my unit, working with local government, I was standing there, contemplating what I was doing there, as I had thought, if I do not stand up for what's right, who will? I also realized, right then, I could be shot, stabbed, run over, or blown up, and there was almost nothing I could do about it. I had body armor and a weapon, but I was also in the open as eyes and ears. I was moments from death, for hours on end. You're never closer to God because you can meet Him at any minute in situations like that. I was terrified but I saddled up anyway.
But I realized, in spite of the people who asked me why I would stick my neck out and face death "For no money", I realized, right then, with a smile on my face...
    I live for this shit.

I don't think it's necessarily about changing the world, no one person has a right to enforce their will upon others, but you can change yourself and how you chose to live your own life, though people don't like this as Tolstoy said "everyone wants to change the world but nobody wants to change the self". You can chose what behaviour you will and won't tolerate, you can chose to hold yourself accountable and you can chose to fight until you succeed at building a place for yourself. That's fundamentally what being a warrior means
