My husband has a Masters in Actuarial Science from Iowa. Finished his exams in 1979 - three weeks after our eldest child was born. He worked as a FSA until retirement. I am a retired math teacher. Our daughters are all excellent in Mathematics and our grandchildren seem to be following in that tradition.
The older books have cooler covers.

On Boyce and DiPrima's Differential Equations, there seem to be two versions of each edition. One version, Elementary Differential Equations, only covers ODEs. The version titled Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems includes two additional chapters on PDEs.
I studied Complex Analysis for one year on my own. The subject is very fascinating. When it comes to Cauchy's formula, the mathematics astounds me with illumination. Consenqently, the formula can be applied to various physical applications, like electromagnetism, electrodynamics, and quantum physics. Thus, Complex Analysis is a very interesting field of study in mathematics. Thank you for the video.

BriTheMathGuy I am planning to write a textbook on algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. The books are going to be in condensed form. Today's textbooks are too verbose for the average students. I feel there is a great need for effective mathematics books because the current schools at the secondary level are not supplying students with them. A good mathematics education is what makes a country prosperous.

This collection is a kind of overview of many pieces of mathematics (certainly not complete). I think to make it more well rounded I would need to add some books in analysis, abstract algebra, and topology. Do you have any secondary books? I am 34 and want to learn Algebra and eventually calculus. In high school I did take the lowest level of general math and did ok, but when I went to college the math went right over my head. I do believe the way it was taught and my own mindset is the reason I failed, and have forgotten everything I learned in high school. I know I loved algebra and trig! Anyways I am basically starting from scratch.

Suggests some mathematics books for major computer science
Computer Science isn't my field, though I would suggest you seek resources on linear algebra, matrices, logic, and linear programming. I have found the Schaum's outline series to be very helpful to many students due to the many worked out examples. I hope that helps!

please tell me when you self read a math book . how you read it ? Do you highlight important information or just read it and take some notes ? I feel taking notes is consuming a lot time . Also

I've seen a bunch of channels now - & these "youtube-mathsbook-overview vids" are always the same
- some books are shown , lots of bla bla included & the sentence which is used the most is "to be honest , I haven't read this book" -
probably because this 'clip-style' is rather funny since it gives you' the feeling as if 'you yourself' have read all these books already
( though , everybody knows that youtubers don't read - they talk about reading instead ... ) .
after all , this is what live is all about : to act as if & do so with all 'your' heart ... 😉
I'm a senior in highschool taking both AP Calculus AB and BC I ended first semester with an A (20% Quizes and 80% Chapter Tests) and I'm hoping to pass the AP exam to save money for college and be exempted from the math placement test at the university of Washington.. any advice? Buy a study guide for the test? Anything helps! BTW test in may.. I'm also taking 2 others.. AP LIT and AP GOV. I love math but want to get into more computer science, I still would love to further my knowledge with math though.
If you are looking to pass a specific test then study guides for that exam are usually the way to go. I would also recommend reviewing your class notes and old tests. Even if you chose computer science there will still be lots of math involved and more math classes to take. Best of luck to you!
BriTheMathGuy I purchased a Princeton review for the AP exam and I'm doing it all day by day just reviewing old stuff and up to date. I currently have As (106% and 102%) in both AP calculus classes and I hope to be prepared with this study guide and my notes/tests from chapter tests we've taken. Thank you! I honestly would love to at least minor in mathematics.. maybe one day!

@@BriTheMathGuyAnother good book for calculus is Higher Math for Beginners by Zeldovich and Yagom, sadly it is out of print but I have it on my kindle.
You can't have enough maths and physics books. Even if you haven't read through all of them, they are a source of reference. When you see personal libraries of hundreds of books on shelves in stately homes, I doubt very much, if the owner has read every one of them. I read them as source of entertainment. They are far more interesting than fiction, of which I have no interest in at all.

Hi, are you familiar with logical reasoning? If so, what subject would you recommend for me to study that closely resembles LR, or what books would you recommend?
I'm not very well versed in the subject. I have watched a video lecture series produced by the great courses/the teaching company on logic that might be worth checking out. You should be able to find it just by googling "the great courses logic". I believe the professor teaches at Gettysburg College. Have a great day!

Take a look at the Schaum Outlines for whatever subject you are interested in. They're relatively cheap, clear and easy to understand, and come with lots of worked out examples. Hope that helps!

Can I have those books which you never read? Especially those that were donated. I would love to have them to my bookshelf. I would probably spent hours admiring and digesting the knowledge that it tends to present.

Physics by Knight I really don't recommend. It just throws all these introductory concepts at you, 40+ chapters worth, like 1300 pages. It doesn't cover them well enough in my opinion. It's a bit of a jumble. I had to use it four my first year courses. I'm certain there are better intro physics textbooks out there

Would it be okay in your eyes for someone to self-study enough, so they can place into the class they wish?

I hate to give a cop-out answer but it really depends on you. If you know you are a great independent learner then the Schaum Outline books are great for learning new things. Overall I usually recommend students to actually take the class they need to place into the next one. The main reason for this is it will force you to give the necessary time to the material that you might not if you self-study. Also, your university might not even let you take calc unless you have had a trig class before.(This you would need to find out.) Taking the trig class will not slow you down in the long run. Hope it helps. :)
