For some reason this makes me want the Hammond Collection Allosaurus even more, putting those two figures next to each other will be really something, showing the difference between realism and fiction
@AKayani559I agree, both are high quality though the BOTM is slightly more quality for the better hidden joints, higher movement, better paintjob, and better product, it has more weight to it because it is made of a higher quality product. Despite that, both figures are great, BOTM being my personal favorite of the both.
Marco! Chris Chaotic of Creative Beast Studio here!!! Incredible review! I was very impressed with your knowledge of this dinosaur and its physiology! We try to make every figure Scientifically accurate including the articulation cuts! Don't worry about the paint on the plastic chipping either, if you scrape it across rough surfaces like sandpaper, concrete, cats tongues (make the last one up) it will grind off the paint, But these figures are made to be played with too. I occasionally throw the figures in my Previews videos!!!

I think I remember hearing of Concavenator (still an Allosauroid) being found with scute impressions on at least its toes? And large scute like scale plating along the midline of the belly, pelvic bones and underside of the tail? So scute like scales on the fingers could still be plausible on the fingers of Allosauroids, but not confirmed nor refuted, yet. I am aware of a recent Allosaurus specimen that is being worked on that might have a lot of skin preserved from it, possibly including half of its face! Don't know if David Silva or his team had access to privy information from this specimen when they were working on this figure? But it will be exciting to see just how close he and his team might actually be with their figure when the actual writeup(s) are finally published on this specimen! Granted, this might be quite a few years out before anything on this specimen finally gets published...

There was a guess speaker many months ago, and their team had found and been working on the specimen in question. Unfortunately I don't recall the speaker's name or their institution off hand (would have to dig through at least several months of video to try and find find them again), but I do recall them saying they got the bulk of the body block out from the site, but the skull was still in the ground, on its side, with the back of the skull exposed. It's not confirmed that there is an Allosaurus "death mask" preserved, but considering the amount of skin impressions they've found from the body block, it's a very real possibility there may be substantial amounts of soft tissue preserved on the buried side of the face! I don't know if since then they were able to go back yet an d get the skull block, but I'd imagine that it might be a priority on their "to-do" list, considering the amount of skin they got from the body block!
I’ve been collecting Beasts of the Mesozoic figures for years now and this Allo is by far the BEST big theropod that BOTM has made! The details are gorgeous as always, but the articulation is INSANE!! Mine had a weird flaw where some of the teeth were bent up, but they straightened out when I applied some heat. All in all, 10/10 figure!!
Such a fantastic figure, one of the best purchases I've done in recent years for sure! As for the scutes, referring to the big scales on top of bird feet, those are tarsal scutes. I haven't read much about their prescence on the hands of theropods, but a more recent (and pretty extensive) study concluded that these scutes where present in theropod dinosaur feet. Very likely an ancestral trait, which makes sense, since probably all dinosaurs had the potential to have feathers (doesn't mean that they all did! there's lots of scaly skin impressions from many dinosaur species). Those tarsal scutes on the figure, or any reconstruction, are not considered controversial nowadays. The paper in question is called "Morphology and distribution of scales, dermalossifications, and other non-featherintegumentary structures in non-avialantheropod dinosaurs". They even used an illustration I did a while back for one of the figures, that's how I remember haha.

But the limbs themselves/figure as a whole should be fine for articulating without much wear. It's obvious when a part has too much friction from reaching the end of its movement range.
it looks like it is very close to the hammond collection scale too on further investigation these are slightly bigger by 1/15th so they are actually pretty comparable

It stands! You have to balance it really well because it might fall over after a few hours, I think it's because of the joints. I recommend using the base, however I have it standing without at the moment.
They're different products. I appreciate Justin's as that's hand crafted directly by him, every single one, it's so much work for one person, and he's a BEAST at it. Much respect.
I could be wrong, I haven't really looked into it too much, inly enough to notice that there is another colour available. My point is that there is another paintjob that more aligns to what you might prefer 😊

When I draw allosaurus I always use hot or warm colors for the crests but BOTM made the blue crests look good.

I would buy this figure if it gets re-released in the Walking with dinosaurs colours and not have it as an exclusive that's hard to come by.
