- In this video we'll push our website to Heroku for webhosting!
We need to install a few things and configure out app to work on Heroku. We'll go over all of that in this video. We'll need the heroku toolbelt so our terminal can connect to Heroku. We'll also need several modules, namely: python-decouple, dj_database_url, and django_heroku which we'll pip install and add to our app.

i got one problem when i run heroku i got this error ''heroku logs --tail'' could you help sir.

NOTE: Git has changed it's "master" branch to "main".
So if you are getting error with "git push heroku master", try "git push heroku main". This might fix your problem.

I tried to push my event website with Heroku Webhost which I created with Django Wednesday, and It has different STATICFILES_DIRS!! How can I fix it? It says STATICFILES_DIRS setting does not exist. Thanks again for wonderful videos!

Yes, you're wrong. The heroku hosting uses it and requires it.

just wanted to give a heads up the forms do not work we did not set up the email sign in info for heroku to use. also i can navigate to the page but when i try to access it from a phone or tablet i get an error about not having a secure connection.

There's no real way to easily do that...why would you want to? Just use a database

It doesn't matter. It's a matter of how much traffic the site will get. Start cheap, you can change it later

The issue is, Heroku does not support user uploaded files. The best way to do this is to create a AWS account and select S3, from there you can follow this tutorial from Corey -- > th-cam.com/video/kt3ZtW9MXhw/w-d-xo.html
Will the SSH Key different for all the Django Projects or it will be the same key? Means do I have to generate SSH Key whenever I host a Django Project from my machine?

pip does install them into virtual env. That's what pip does. that's HOW you install them into the virtual env.

I'm struggling to solve this problem and i was hoping that i may get some help. everytime i deploy my project to heroku using the step in the video, i notice that my sqlite3 databse is deleting content which i post after deployment. how do i deploy my updated project codes without erasing content from the database?
you can't use sqlite on heroku, use postgres

In the same exact way. Change it locally and then push it to heroku as usual
I can only login to heroku using windows terminal. Why can't I get pass the '' heroku: Press any key to open up the browser to login or q to exit:'' in git bash it freezes here. Any sugggestions? Everything is up to date....
Don't think it's freezing...check your web browser....it probably opened there. Then control+c to break the terminal.

You go to the admin page in the same way on heroku, except instead of the url being localhost/admin it will be your heroku url/admin. To edit the app...make your code changes locally on your computer as always, then push the app again to heroku.

Thank you for this helpful tutorial. Can't thank you enough already. I have deployed Django app on heroku and is working well and good. Only thing I noticed is that when I access the URL or website on mobile the site does not load properly and needs some tweaks to make it compatible for all devices. Is it possible for your to share some insight to do so ? Once again, thanks a lot for your tutorials.

@@Codemycom No, I don't think it is. I just used free template available online and created a website. I don't have any idea about making website mobile ready.

Thank you john for helping us build and host our very own website! But I'm experiencing a bug right now that I don't have a fix for. Whenever I push the code to heroku and refresh the site I get an error saying "TemplateDoesNotExist". I searched far and wide for a fix but never found any. Could you help me out?
Is your template file in the right place?
@@Codemycom Yeah it was at the same directory as your templates files. Though I managed to fix it by making a new folder inside the templates folder and store the website files inside that folder. I can't believe you replied though, never thought you'd reply to an old video that was months ago. Thanks for the great videos though. Helped me out alot :)

When i checked it, tkinter is used by Pillow
There should be no reference to Tkinter anywhere, and no, Pillow does not use Tkinter. You likely have not used your virtual environment correctly.

when i put my site online, it wont load a few of my images. the site worked offline without problems but now some of my content wont load.
Run the command: heroku logs
and see if there are any errors.

You don't. You only need one ssh key on your computer

I published my app on Heroku. Everything worked, static files migrations etc. But few hours later I dont see the app anymore just blank screen. Tryed kaffeine to ping it every 30min, its says its awake but I dont see it. How do I solve this?

I have a issue with sending a message from the website (It shows an error in the website with a critical security alert in my gmail) and it was working fine before hosting the app!! Please what can I do to fix the problem?
I'm not sure...email is tricky and it could be many things...you'll have to Google the errors...
Whit bird, I came accross with the same issue. After deploying with Heroku sending messages from the website stopped working. Here is what helped me. Visit github.com/nodemailer/nodemailer/issues/611 and find 'shubham-awr commented on 17 Jan 2018' who wrote 'Try this,
accounts.google.com/b/0/DisplayUnlockCaptcha
This will allow machines to access your gmail remotely.' I my case it helped almost immediately.

everything worked well, but i realised that the DEBUG is set to TRUE which is not good in production, when i turn the DEBUG to FALSE and add the set the ALLOWED HOSTS it is giving me an error 500 or it is only loading the html without the static files
Just leave the debug to true if you can't figure it out

you probably dont have that app listen in ur installed apps in the setting .py of youre main project files
I don't think dentist is your app name since it has settings.py. So,It is to be your project's name.

@@Codemycom In the video, we did not hide our django security key and our email passwords. Is it safe to host them in heroku, or is there a way to host them while still keeping them safe.
@@bleandertutorialske6160 They're fine on heroku, people can't see your code there...right? So long as you don't push them to github, you should be fine. You can always set them up as environmental variables if you're worried (google it).

I watched it so many time to upload all my projects.
However, one of my project failed because of this error:
django.db.utils.ProgrammingError: cannot cast type time without time zone to timestamp with time zone.
Can't resolve the error through stackolverflow as well.

Okay, the issue is with your code, and the timezone. Looks like you're saving a time value into dB, is that correct?. A look into the code might help. Can you confirm if the time saved into your dB is the same as your actual time.
