One of my all time favorites so glad I got to see him at the Vanguard when he returned from Europe in 76 played with great swing and soul and was such a presence on stage RIP
In the picture, Dex has his Conn 10M saxophone. Someone recently posted that he always played a Selmer. The picture is by Frank Wolff (Blue Note) from a recording session. You can see that horn on some Blue Note album covers from the time (early 1960s). You can tell it's a Conn because of the octave mechanism on the neck and the metal strut under the neck in other pictures from that session.
What's the point of listening to him if youre not gonna take it the way he speaks it. You're not gonna absorb his knowledge, personality, or genius by shortcutting through it
He points out the importance of his years i Copenhagen. He contribued a lot to the danish jazz scene! Thanks Dexter.

Tommy Black he played Conn until he lost it in hotel around 65-67. Then he played Selmer Mark 6 until his end.
Great post, thanks!
You hear those names in the Eckstine band? I'm done.
As dexter implies, draft evasion allowed bebop to be developed at home while other young men went to war.. fascinating historical fact.
