@@shmone88 We had one that was 11 minutes and we were worried we wouldn't make it! It ended up not being an issue. Hopefully you don't run into any issues either!
@@MaxandSidney thank you i got first class ticket, so I should be easily get off from the first train, and conductor can direct me where to go to make it on time. Thank you.
I've travelled a lot by train in country and once did a train to another European country. I’d like to experience another train journey where you can stay overnight sometime. I will hear from my friend that there are great discounts on trainpal.
Amazing trip, Max! Glad you were able to have this opportunity to travel and you hit the nail on the head because train travel is absolutely vital when travelling across Europe. I've had to take the train between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic and would not imagine travelling in any other way! Thanks for the great video, the commentary is informative and the footage is well recorded. Subbed and looking forward to more videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words and for subscribing! We love riding around on trains, it’s so fun to take in the scenery! We’ve been to all of those places except for the Czech Republic so far. Can’t wait to get there one day!
@@MaxandSidney Oh I'm sure you'll love it! The man attractions for me were the beautiful architecture and the cheap beer! I hope you'll cover this beautiful city one day 😄
@@MaxandSidney yeah and especially cos the ticket machines, at least if you buy international tickets, don't even ASK if you want seat reservation, they don't even offer it as an option, you can only pick your class for some reason. Maybe it's different if you take ÖBB between two Austrian cities, I don't know... Here in Hungary if the train has a seat reservation, the rail company's website and the ticket machines automatically add that, I think you have an opt-OUT option but idk. So yeah, it pays to get your return ticket in Hungary too if you go on a trip from here to Austria (like a weekend or day trip to Vienna, which is worth doing by train cos the train trip itself is about as much as waiting, check in and security at the airport, with none of the fuss)
You will love it! Inconveniences are bound to happen when you’ve been on the road as long as we have, but for the most part, we’ve had very pleasant experiences getting around by train! Thanks for checking out the video 😃👍
Can you please do a demo video on how to purchase seat reservations ONLY....no ticket purchase (since we'll already have Eurail passes) at one of the DB ticket kiosks? You wouldn't need to complete the transaction, as long as you can show us a step-by-step of which buttons to press for the process. My friend will have the DB app on her phone, but it can be tricky, when it's attached to a US-based credit card sometimes...delays in internet, fraud alerts etc. If we can use the kiosks in the train station, it will speed things along. All we need to know, is what is the sequence of buttons to press. You can do it in English or German, as I speak both. The same would be helpful from the kiosks for Austrian and Swiss trains to buy seat reservations only. Thanks so much.
Im German and in my 16 years of living I've never booked a train seat :') I always just use my bus ticket cuz its like 2 in 1. School bus ticket and Train ticket for the regional bahn and underground train :D
I absolutely love your videos. You guys are doing a great job. We (husband, myself, 2 kids ages 10, 12) did 5 weeks in Europe-Tuscany/Rome, Scotland, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bruges, Milan. We took 3 22” carryons, 3 personal item backpacks, and a small a lunch cooler. You guys seems to struggle with your luggage. Have you tried to “downsize” to a carryon and backpack each. I think you would find it to be a much more pleasurable experience. Good Luck. I love would to see a video about how you changed to packing less. It would be very beneficial to anyone planning to see Europe by train.

Hallo from Hann Munden Germany! My husband and I are currently traveling Europe mostly by train so thank you for the tips. We are 50 year old retired Americans from the Orlando Florida area. Maybe we will run into each other one day😊
Saying that the german or austrian railways overbook trains is not quite right, because many or even most tickets are not for a specific train but for specific route and people could take any train that day but in most cases they don't spread evenly so there are many trains that are packed especially if one of the other trains on the route got cancelled. They could solve this problem by making reservations mandatory, but I don't think that would do much good because you can already reserve seats and in first class the train is rarely crowded, but it would take away a lot of flexibility. But it is a bit of a hot topic in Germany, but most think that the goal should be increase capacity by running more or longer trains, which of course is easier said than done.
It seems like nothing is written in English at train station is that true ? We are planning to travel through Central Europe by train, visiting Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, and Slovakia. Should we buy a rail pass or individual train tickets?
How do you guys balance overnight stays with your travels? Do you plan the trip and book where to stay or just travel and stay where you can find when you arrive?
We usually book places to stay in advance, and we always try to find options on the cheaper side of the spectrum. Sometimes longer stays offer a discount, so we try to take advantage of that when we can! It has all evened out to less than we used to pay for rent in Chicago
Hello, thanks for watching! We would usually just get a normal ticket for the train, but made sure to reserve our seats after some bad experiences standing. Luggage is usually not an issue, but space on the luggage racks goes fast! Hope this helps, we appreciate you checking out our channel!
How do you recommend the duration of train transfer in Europe? I want to buy a ticket from Vienna to Luxembourg but the transfer time only 9 minutes and another one is 11 minutes. Do you think it is enough time? What is the minimum time transfer for the train I should be prepared for. Thank you for your review.
Thanks for watching! It really depends on the size of the station you are transferring at. We have had transfer times of around 15 minutes which was no problem, but they were at stations with 8 platforms or fewer. Also, if you have a lot of luggage, it can be harder. Hope this helps!
Have you ever taken a train in Europe? If so, how was the experience? Let us know 👇
I will be transfering at Koblenz Hbf only 9 minutes, hopefully it will be enough time to connection to Luxembourg.

Oooh yes the ÖBB and seat reservation... having gotten the short end of that stick between Vienna Main Station and Budapest Kelenföld, I felt that.
It’s brutal, especially for a longer journey! 😭
