  • In this video I show how to clean up lures. Fixing old lures and making them look brand new again can save you some money and earn you a cool new addition to your tackle box. Using a simple solution of dish soap, vinegar, and some baking soda you can clean off a bunch of grime and rust from lures you've found.

    Fun paint job, especially like how the Rat'l'Trap turned out! Now lets go fish!

    Lake monsters are cool, I do prefer river monsters though.

    My friend and i always go through the same sop every trip. He says " want snap swivel, makes change up faster " And I always say " the fish aint rushing me to hook them". ALWAYS a better action with no snap swivel.

      Agreed, there are some lures in which it will impede the action (poppers, walking baits…) but overall probably not a bad idea if you’re “junk fishing.” Aka trying out multiple lures to find what they are biting on. I also would worry about some of the snaps pulling apart if I was to hook into a bigger fish. There’s a great video that makes a pretty good argument on snaps. th-cam.com/video/RM-mmBS_yO4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=exjC5ff2q7jlZ9Pj

    Good job on those baits. You made it kinda hard on yourself tho since the finishes were fine. You should always take the hardware off first. Then I use a toothbrush with baking soda and dawn and a little water. It'll save the finish and clean it up really good. H&H lures has the 2 1/2" rubber skirts for that hula popper. Great video 👍
    Fish on! 🐟

    Nice looking repaints. It’s fun finding lures and reconditioning them. It’s even more fun to catch fish with them.
    FYI, Northland Crazy Legs skirts fit perfectly on Hula Poppers as replacements although the dressed treble does look good. Barlow’s Tackle sells skirts that work great too.
    If you ever come across lures that were originally plated but the plating is damaged and needs to be removed, 91% isopropyl alcohol or professional cleaner/degreaser will remove it.

    Ketchup works for cleaning up baits too. Try using the corner of a piece of paper or cardboard box lid as a segment stencil. If you cut it flat it has a half hexagon pattern. If you notch a V in it, it makes a zig zag.

    What paint do you use?

    • @lakemonsterlures
      @lakemonsterlures  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are paints that I buy from HobbyLobby. They tend to be on sale most times I go there. Createx is the brand. Use only about a pea size amount with a bit of reducer to make it a bit thinner. Probably a 2:1 ratio 2 drops paint to 1 drop of reducer

      You can also use those same paints with a small brush if you don’t have an airbrush. But then I’d probably just buy any cheap acrylic paint. Those others cost more because they are made for the airbrush

    Restore is not repaint them something else not back to regional colors ⁉️🤔 is is red and white keep it red and white 🧐 just saying to restore it is to go back to new. You did a good job on repaint theme.

      You’re right, “restore” was not the best word choice for the thumbnail. I didn’t restore them. Is that something you would rather have seen? Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’ll change the thumbnail when I get a moment

    Why did you paint it like a Loon?

    • @lakemonsterlures
      @lakemonsterlures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Loon coloring is a common paint style in fishing lures. Because it is a top water lure the fish below will only see the belly anyway. Bass, Pike, Musky, Walleye, and other species will actually eat young birds.
