He lacks the strength to win against blocks but knows enough moves to compensate for that. When he does beat the tackle, he is so fast that he gets to the qb most of the time, which is why he had 12.5 sacks last season despite having a 6.7% win rate.
Key word being potential. In college he was at one point looked at as a clear cut number one pick. He’s always had the tools, but he’s never been able to put them together all the time. I truly worry he doesn’t put in enough work in the offseason to gain the consistency he needs to be a great player. He may be one of those guys that stays in the good not great and somewhat underwhelming career path. He’s at the point where he can beat bad players consistently because he’s just more talented but the above average players just lock him down because he’s not an elite athlete. He’s a very good athlete but not parsons or Garrett. And when you’re not an elite athlete you need to have a deep bag and strong plan or you will never be more than pretty good
I think with the new DC he’s going to have more consistent games. The secondary is now going to be able to have guys cover and double cover instead of blitzing at a high rate. Leads to the QB having to hold on for a little longer and that leads to sacks
my problem with Thibodeaux is there were plays last season where he just gave up and did not even try. You would see him jogging on the field or not even try to get past the tackle. hopefully he steps up his game with a better pass rush around him.
@@Johnkopft obviously you're the one who did not watch him play. for the past two seasons, he has plays he just straight-up does not try on. he'll either slightly jog or half-heartily push a lineman.

Thibodeaux can be a fine edge in the NFL. Saying hes gonna become a TOP 5 Edge Rusher/OLB is a bit rich, in my opinion. Most of his opponents you showed were backup caliber O-Linemen, Linemen with little experience playing in the league or even Tight Ends. Sure, he beat Mailata and Zach Tom on some plays, but overall he just doesnt win consistent enough to crack a case of him being an elite edge rusher. Stats dont lie, and they show that he tends to completely disappear from time to time. Even for full games, his imapct is zero to none. His big stats came from games against mediocre at best O-Lines (7 of 13 Sacks came from games against the Jets and the Commanders) and he often gets blocked well by better O-Linemen. His pressures were also inflated a lot by playing againtst lesser competition (10 in one game against Washington LMFAO). He often overshoots and therefore misses his contain duty or his fit in the run game. He lacks elite tools and often presents an unpolished set of hands, that tend to keep him locked up by most average oder above Linemen. Again, the point can be made that he can become a solid edge, but even his own team didnt trust the process in trading for Brian Burns to be their weakside pass rusher in the new defensive scheme. TOP 5 should not be a discussion at this point of his career. One of your rare misses
I couldnt have said ot better. This player has shorter arms, hes ordinary at best turning speed to power, and he cant flatten when running the arc. I think his best future lies in gaining 15 lbs of muscle and becoming a run stopping end. He doesnt have the tools to become a good pass rusher.
@@Cartier_FRITZ owner of the lowest pass rush win rate of ALL pass rushers in the NFL. And for the ones who are challenged because they LOL when they should be reading... @@Cartier_FRITZyou need to look at the numbers more critically. 11.5 sacks looks good on paper but who he actually got those sacks against can say a lot. A lot of coverage sacks and qbs stepping up right into him. Yes he still had some solid sacks but majority of the time he disappears or inflates his stats against bad O-Lines/QBs
Im a Giants fan and just physically I can't ever see him being a Dexter level player because he just doesn't have that size and strength like those top 270 pound or so edges like Garrett or Bosa and his getoff is his best tool but being filled out at about 255 it's not the level where he is elite at a position where athletecism is such a big piece. I expect him to get more consistent and be a 15-20 best edge in the league high end 2 maybe lower end 1 or he will stay more inconsistent with flashes how he was last year. Two trajectories he could follow imo just depends on progress
MAYBE he could be a borderline top 10 edge but I just don't see run d ever being a huge strength of his which knocks him down a little imo. Definetly has the ability to beat up on bad tackles, have even matchups with solid-good tackles but I see him pretty much getting shut out his whole career by Trent, Lane Johnson, Tyron Smith, Andrew Thomas, Penei Sewell, etc guys the really great or elite level tackles with high end prototype physical tools. That is the type of player he can be
He has some Von Miller/Micah Parsons to him. Sure he won't have that Nick Bosa or Myles Garrett strength, but he has legit upside in pass rushing. Let's see what he develops into in yr 3
@The_Football_Scout Fair. If there is a mold for him to be elite it is in that direction and like I said his getoff is his best trait. He's not nearly as bendy as Von and Micah just has even more explosion and speed when he flys down the arc. I hope he becomes the best player he can be for us. My point is I just see his potential as a really good or great player and not an elite player
I know people bring up the pass rush win rate and stuff but to act like this guy is a bust is crazy. He flashed a lot his first 2 years I mean he got double digit sacks last year. He will get better especially with burns drawing some attention away from him
Just because it hasn't worked yet, doesn't mean it won't. He has really good pass rush, at some point it's going to click and he's going to become really good

Like most young players he just needs to be more consistent
Having Dre Patterson in that room is going to take him to the next level.
also competing and training with Burns will help alot as well
Best thing to me is that closing speed. When he has a clear path to the QB. He closes so so fast. Its like he hits the turbo.
He still has a lot of room to grow. I mean he only had a 6.4% pass rush win rate last season. But I think next year will be his breakout year
He’s going to have 15 sacks if he plays every game.

Definitely most slept on. He mentioned he wants to get better as a team player watch out for him. Says forget the stats.
The 2024 Giants are going to get to the QB consistently.
he also has another pro bowl caliber edge on the other side teaching him and also taking some leverage off him
I think this season will be massive for him, he will have Burns taking attention and a rotation to give them all some rest.
