According to the contract, Robert Stein had the rights to port Tetris to "different types of computers" and later to Arcade games. The deal did not include any home console or handheld rights, but there was a dispute over this issue, because Stein incorrectly assumed and later sold (illegally) the console rights he didn't have. Andromeda sublicensed the rights to Mirrorsoft and Spectrum Holobyte. Mirrosoft later sold the arcade and illegally sold the console rights to Atari (and their subsidiary Tengen). This is why the arcade Atari and Tengen versions are legal. Tengen's Sega Genesis and NES versions of Tetris are technically pirated copies. The legal console and Handheld rights for Tetris were sold to Nintendo and Bullet Proof Software. Tetris was originally property of the government of Russia and now is owned by the Tetris Company today.
Tengen didn't make a Genesis Tetris. That was Sega themselves. They had sublicensed the arcade rights for Japan from Atari Games, and were planning on making a Mega Drive port of their arcade version, but cancelled it before release but not before a small number of cartridges were actually made, of which about a dozen survive.
Tengen released only 1 different machine in our database under this trade name. A puzzle game where seven different types of blocks continuously fall from the top of the screen. You must arrange them to complete horizontal rows of bricks.
If I'm not mistaken this version is very close, if not a hybrid between the NES retail version (before it was recalled obviously) and the recently discovered Tengen prototype version. Very interesting.
As far as I know, all songs playing in this game are Russian folk songs. I couldn't find the name of the main theme, but "Bradinsky", "Troika", "Loginska" and "Kalinka" are among the songs that play in this game. Google those names to listen to them. While it doesn't play in this game, "Korobeiniki" is known as the "tetris song", google that too.

is it possible to port this version to the nes? (seeing as how the tengen cartridge is really, expensive)
at that point you could just look into getting a reproduction of the Tengen version.
