    Really enjoyed this video. Thinking of getting a Rebel myself and wanted to add some bags. At one point you mentioned adding a luggage rack. Have you been able to complete the luggage rack on the Rebel 500 while still having the saddle bags intact. If so have you put a video explaining process about this? I'm wondering if you have to use the same mounting holes.
    I'd really like to have both saddle bags and luggage rack. Thank you.

      @Gromtrooper6189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't end up adding a luggage rack to mine. The one Honda sells bolts on where the pillion seat goes on the rear fender and wouldn't interfere with these bags.

    It would have been nice if you had added some more time & showed more of the details involved - & brighter lighting - with the inside brackets and spacers positioning relative to the bag, spaced distance to the fender, ect.

  • @Jackalbeez
    @Jackalbeez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    You mentioned at the end of your video, about the quick disconnect system Viking has for their bags and I asked Viking about it, but they stated that it will not work with the Rebel. Something to do with the spacing of the fender screws on the Rebel. There are only certain bikes that it will work on. You would probably have to make your own custom adapter to make it work.
    I also wanted to ask, if you found that the thicker spacers were the right ones or do you think the thinner ones would work?

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      See thats what VB told me as well, but I've had multiple people tell me they have successfully mounted the quick disconnect on the new rebels. Maybe if it does require modification it's pretty simple?
      As far as the spacers go, I wouldn't use the thinner ones as you'll likely run into your rear brake caliper ramming into your bags.

    • @Jackalbeez
      @Jackalbeez 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got my bags finally mounted, but after looking at how high you mounted yours, I will have to raise my bag mounting, as the rear brake caliper is hitting the bottom edge of the right-side bag, when I go over a large bump. Obviously I mounted them to low.

    I bought a set of Viking bags for my Honda Rebel, but the installation kit Viking sent contained imperial threaded bolts and the Rebel uses metric. Did you have to buy your own metric screws in order to mount the bags to the side of the fenders? The fender bolts are M8.

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question and one that seems to come up a lot. I don't know of this is a qc issue at Viking bags or not but my bolts were the correct thread pattern, but you're certainly not the first to report this problem. Might be worth reaching out to them to see if they can send you the correct bolts. Sorry you ran into this situation!

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the answer to your question is twofold. With the bags I have I could move them back about another inch and have passenger pegs. That being said they would not be ideal for the passenger as their heel would still rub up against the front of the bags. If you want to still be able to ride 2 up with bags on this bike I'd look into some smaller bags (Vikingbags offers a few types). Hopefully this helps!

    Hey there!
    I just got myself a Rebel 300. Do you think these are “too big” for it?
    Also, will it be spacious enough to carry an extra set of clothes such as a pair of pants and a shirt? I hit the gym and sometimes have to work right after. I wouldn’t want to be carrying a backpack all the time.

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside from the engine size the 500 is the same frame and everything else as the 300 so these would fit your bike the same way they fit mine. I don't think they would be too much added weight and would certainly fit a change of clothes and a toolkit.

    The saddlebags are only held on by two screws. Have those held up for you over time and a lot of bumps on the road? I am concerned that a two point mount will vibrate over time and damage the fender or the saddlebag.

    My V-Strom burned in the dealership fire in Tallahassee (REDHILLS POWERSPORTS)! October. Ended up buying 750 Phantom 750 V twin. Really nice--to replace it. Bought Viking Brown Leather Odin bags. Tech at dealer said "won't fit--holes in wrong place"...so he installed as throw over. It looks horrendous, silly, shoddy, temporary---yeeeccchhh. I removed the whole thing and going to have them redo with hard mounting. He DID, at least, bolt on the frame things! But my question is: Now that he has the frames on the bike, can I have them fit, drill the holes and then mount the bags on the motorcycle, WITHOUT taking the metal fumes off and affixing them to the bags first? How would you do it?

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy moly sorry to hear about your bike and the fire! The way I see it you can go about it two ways. You could take the frames off, and try to line them up to the two bolt holes on the phantom fender, or you could grab two short lengths of steel plate and use those as sort of a mounting bracket, with the bolts to the bags going through one side and the bolts to the fender to the other. Let me know what you end up doing!

    Doesn't look particularly secure, since you can lift up the floppy cover near the ends. It looks as if there is only 1 central lock, not a bar that secures it at multiple points.

    • @Gromtrooper6189
      @Gromtrooper6189 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not as secure as some hard bags for sure and you're correct there is just one central lock. The top is so stiff however that getting anything out through the back is pretty darn impossible. While that flap appears to lift up a lot the gap it exposes when heavily strong armed is still only roughly half an inch wide
