15 years ,from start to finish, never a bad game against the best teams in the hardest competitions in the world ,winning more trophies and medals than any other player, surely he has to be the best to have played the game, When I read about others that could be considered to be just as good they have had neither the number of games or the hard games in comparison. Will these players be around in 15 years and against which teams will their skills be compared to? Referees from many countries refereed the games he played in and he was rarely penalized, surely they can't have all got it wrong. We have all be privileged to have seen this humble ,dedicated ,athlete for the last 15 yrs.
Like him or not this guy will most probably be one of the best Rugby players the world has ever seen, as a teenager I thought Micheal Jones and still do was pretty special but MCcaw ticks all the boxes you would judge players on the time they've spent in the game and how consistent at the level they've played..I think the powers that be are wrapping him up now to lengthen his career anyone else in the all blacks apart from Reid can be replaced
Grateful to be alive to witness probably the best rugby player of all time to grace this sport..his leadership and commitment to the team is beyond belief. ..and thats why his teammates would go to hell and back for this guy..love him or hate him..he is a champion. Go the wallabies 2015rwc...
omg he is amazing. what makes him one of the best player ever is his work rate which never relents for the full 80 mins and his ability to remain calm in provoking situations like that quade knee incident ;)
The epitome of great sportsmanship, dedication and courage. A quiet, humble and understated man, McCaw loved every aspect of rugby. His commitment and taciturn demeanour, even in the heat of battle, are exemplary. He is as talented as Ronaldino, without all the Prima Donna antics and dirty play. A true sporting legend, worthy of many accolades.
I feel genuinely honored to even be alive in the same era as Richie. To be able to watch him is just as much of an honor. Richie McCaw is the greatest. Not just as a player, but as a leader, a person and an inspiration.
da BATMAN to be honest big flankers are useless. To slow off the mark etc. I was a small number 7 and was a complete pain in the arse- all over the place tackling everyone with my hands on the ball first at every break down. So much fun!!!
Greatest openside definitely, best forward possibly but doubtful, but greatest player???? Not a chance!!!! ..... Mike Gibson, Gareth Edwards, Barry John, Phil Bennett, Brian O'Driscoll, Joost van der Westhuizen, David Duckham, Dan Carter, Johnny Wilkinson, Danie Gerber, Andy Irvine, Gerald Davies, Tim Horan, Phillipe Sella, and the list goes on of better all round players.. Kiwis seem to think they have a god given right to have the greatest players in every position, but being the greatest team, which they invariably are, does not always mean the greatest players.. When greatest teams of all time are selected, generally the only AB's guaranteed places are Jonah, Richie and Christian Cullen.. Carter is always debated with at least 3 others, and I would have Carl Hayman as the best Tight head, but that's always argued.. Other than that it's the value AB's bring to a team that's important.. Everyone is biased to some extent, but to say Richie is the greatest player ever is just stupidity and shows either a lack of knowledge or respect for others achievements..
Its a real shame that instead of simply acknowledging one of the world's greatest players, people feel they have to put McCaw down and extol the merits of other players. Whether you believe he was the greatest player ever or not he is still worthy of respect because of his accomplishments. The stats don't lie and no player will ever equal his success in international tests . If you are a real rugby union lover you have to acknowledge that.
When you the best at what you do,you will always have people that will want to bring you down,Richie McCaw Showed Nothing Is impossible, thats why he will have haters. A true Legend he will always be. have had the privilege to watch him play live a few times. and what a Honour it was.
I don't think anyone doubts that Richie is the best openside in history, unless they are muppets or Soccer supporters, but to call him the greatest player ever will inevitably raise the hackles of huge numbers, and rightly so IMO..
Richie McCaw is unquestionably the greatest flanker of all time. I love watching him play. The best of all time for me; taking into account the differences between the old amateur and modern game, is still Gareth Edwards. But I am nit-picking between two greats who have emmensly enriched the game and I have enjoyed seeing play.
Richie will go down as the greatest rugby player of all time,If anyone can argue a greater player than Richie, then i would like to hear it. In the past it was regarded that Colin Meads was the greatest player to play rugby at an international level, but even the great Man has conceded that Richie MCcaw is the best of all time.
My best rugby player of all time he constantly worked on his game throughout his entire career and honed his skillset with the ever evolving game. He was a menace at the breakdown, his defence was flawless and put his body on the line every game. He bled buckets.and was stitched up regularly, he even played with a broken foot in RWC final. A true captain ..a humble man . easily my greatest player of all time.... followed closely in second place by Christian Cullen........... thanks for the memories !
Whats with all the ritchie haters? Why would you watch this video talk shit bout ritchie, and say hes average, jones was better and so on, what the fuck have you acheived for your country? Hes a humble and modest man you all know this.
40 years watching Rugby, was lucky enough to watch some fine players...Michal Jones probably the best of the others...but this man, Richie McCaw, what a player, 120% every time he went on to a rugby field
Gotta respect this guy for aaaaalll the years and still going, playing rugby for New Zealand. A true legend along with Dan Carter, Jonah Lomu, Tana Umaga, and the rest of the All Blacks !!!!
McCaw is the greatest rugby player, All Black or otherwise, to have ever played the game. Anyone who calls him a cheat is ignorant. They simply cannot handle the fact that he is the best there has ever been. Playing in the most physically demanding position of any sport on the planet, he has dominated like no other. And continues to do so. Legend. End of story.
He is a brilliant player, a good flanker knows how to thread the rules and push them as far as he can, refs are starting to watch him now though, but you cant dispute he is probably the greatest player of a generation. Michael Hooper is only young though, I expect he may achieve the same status....
Richie is a warrior. He fights to end and never gives up hope. If he gets put down, hell, he gets back up, and he soldiers on, and on, and on. History will remember him as an icon, a leader and a true believer in himself and those who support him, and whom he supports.
I've watched the All Blacks since 1984 since I was 14. Twenty two years later I had the opportunity to move to Australia and then New Zealand. I learned an incredible amount about the culture, people and love of sport in both countries. I am a better person because of those great countries and their culture! I am a heart felt lover of Rugby Union and while this video is great I cannot convey the many great rugby players over the years impact on the sport and their everlasting love of the game!
Richie is the best Flanker of all time, but Sam Kane is up and coming that's for sure, what Richie does well is plays to the whistle, he tests the ref like any good player should, puts his body on the line and never gives in.
Wian Engelbrecht if your no.7 could do what he does an get away with it and lead your team to world cup wins back to back and to play 53 tests since 2011 worldcup with only 3 losses im sure you wouldnt complain. Hes not a cheat hes a master who knows when and were you can do things without being penalized. Master.
okay so being constantly offside is a "so called master"?? didnt know that... thanx mate.... not only is this dickless twat constantly offside, but also always slows the ball down is never on his feet and should never have won 2011 against the french... NZ are a bunch of self righteous cheating fucks!!
+Wian Engelbrecht oh okay and i bet your better than mccaw? I dont even know your countrys flanker. Hes the greatest of all time. Nz are the grestest ever
The long, beautiful line continues - the Black Panther, Kel Tremain, Hayburner, Graham Mourie, the great Michael Jones, Josh Kronfeld, Richie McCaw...only the very, very special earn the mythical Black # 7 jersey - perhaps the most feared jersey in world rugby. And when each one retires, we wonder if life will ever be the same again, until the next one comes. One senses Richie hasn't got much time left, but that's OK...bring on the next one!...maybe Sam Cane, maybe Ardie Savea, maybe an, as-yet unknown, but one things for sure, they'll do the jersey proud, just as Richie has for a long time now. And one more thing, Richie MUST have some Maori in him...have you seen him do the Haka?....Kia Kaha, Kia Toa, Kia Manawanui e Rangatira.
you are right , someone has to do a video with all his abilities , to show everyone why he is the best flanker in the world, why he is an awesome player,
The greatest player, greatest captain of the greatest team in the greatest era of rugby. For so long against the very best in the hardest position. He is easily the GOAT.
Not the biggest, strongest, fastest or most skillful. But he is the most determined, most inspirational, most mental and you can guarantee he would never give up on anything.
George Smith was a great player, amazing skills for a backrower, and very underrated in many respects. Sorry, but no. Ritchie is simply the greatest openside, nay, backrower, ever to play the game. It is not merely the amount of turnovers/hit-ups/tackles that he makes (this alone would put him into legend status). It is also his instinct, ink and support play, leadership, and just plain guts that makes him imho the greatest All Black EVER.He will take an absolute hiding for his team AND LOVE IT
Mcaaw= 3 time irb player of the year, lions tour winner, 5 time super rugby champion, countless bledislode and tri nation champs, best winning record, world cup winning captain defined the way a number 7 should play the game, there hasn't been a more influential player than Mccaw ever.
To people calling him a cheat. Richie is the best in the world at playing to the limit of the rules. Remember it's not foul play if the Ref doesn't call it.
The greatest player of the modern game. Although it's not these tries he scored that got him that label. It's his absolute dominance off the ball, around the ruck and being the toughest man i've seen play in that area. I'll admit it's a little hard to show that on a highlights reel :)
hey NZders on here: love your AB's, but here's my question to you: which AB side do you think is the best ever, by year ? I'd say 2005-06...but I don't know anything before the 90's, but surely they weren't as developed as the guys now...
The 95-97 team was exceptional, the 86-91 team unbelievable 52 Games in a row and the 60- 69 All blacks were also unbeatable. In 140 years of international rugby the All Blacks have been dominant for about 100 of those years....... Most dominant sports team in history.
Absolutely bulletproof with the biggest engine and never say die ...with passion ... I'd say Colin Meads was up there for number one - he played forever in the time when you didn't survive without being bulletproof in the true sense of the word...more mongrel with skill .. but Ritchie, wow ..he da man.. ...
Trying to learn this game. Looks like a mashup of "Smear the Queer" and "Hot Potato." Are there any plays or strategies involved in the game, or is it pretty much just throw the ball to whoever is open and try to make past your opponent?
Most back-line moves are plays. the Main motive is usually to try and draw the defense in and then spread the ball as quick as possible to where the space is. Pretty much everything you see in rugby is a play called by the halfback or flyhalf and then performed by the players, then once a play is performed players tend to try and keep the ball alive by passing it to any player in a better position and it becomes more free flowing.
because people dont notice all the hard work that is done by this guy.. were talking about a flanker determined in defence relentless on turnovers creating opportunity being at every brakedown for his team leading from the front.. he left the game the worlds number 7.. remember forwards do more then what the backs do lol.. this guy earned his tries not handed on a plate think about that.
As a proud welshman, i have to say richie mcaw is the greatest player of all time, he is the prime example of a number 7, we have sam warburton, but he has a long way to go to reach mcaw's ability...........
I can't find a better player than him, in the history of the game. In terms how many rules there are in the modern game, how many games players are expected to play in a calendar year, and how much fitter they need to be in order to stay at the top level. I really don't know how you would quantify the difference between the modern game and say two or three decades ago but it's plane to see that if you were to put Richie in the game twenty years ago or today he would own the game.
15 years ,from start to finish, never a bad game against the best teams in the hardest competitions in the world ,winning more trophies and medals than any other player, surely he has to be the best to have played the game, When I read about others that could be considered to be just as good they have had neither the number of games or the hard games in comparison. Nothing but respect for this man. Quality on and off the field.. SA greetings
Richie is a smart player..and a good leader..best no.7 ever in rugby history..thanks for the video...
Grateful to be alive to witness probably the best rugby player of all time to grace this sport..his leadership and commitment to the team is beyond belief. ..and thats why his teammates would go to hell and back for this guy..love him or hate him..he is a champion.

Rugby is where real men go to play. This is coming from a N.American football and basketball fan.
what a player. not the biggest or fastest. just the best!
da BATMAN to be honest big flankers are useless. To slow off the mark etc. I was a small number 7 and was a complete pain in the arse- all over the place tackling everyone with my hands on the ball first at every break down. So much fun!!!
Richie Mccaw is the greatest flanker in rugby history hands down, always at the rucks doing what he does best.
+Jimmy Falefata doussautoir is up there in my opinion
+Jimmy Falefata how?? he made it his life's mission to be offside at the rugs... and the refs never saw it?? yeah no i dont think so
+Wian Engelbrecht Richie defined what is now called, "play to the whistle".
Jimmy Falefata he probably took the whistle and stuck it up his ass so that the ref couldn't blow it :'D :'D
Wian Engelbrecht wrong sport lad.
he aint the greatest flanker of all time, he is the greatest player of all time
So true brother
STAUNCH NZ 100% bro! 👍
Jonah lomu?Eben etzebeth?Joost van der Westhuizen?
Na, Lomu, and Joost still beat him.
Greatest openside definitely, best forward possibly but doubtful, but greatest player???? Not a chance!!!! ..... Absolutely on the button there 100% :)
Haunui Royal did you forget Jonah Lomu
When you the best at what you do,you will always have people that will want to bring you down,Richie McCaw Showed Nothing Is impossible, thats why he will have haters. A true Legend he will always be. have had the privilege to watch him play live a few times. and what a Honour it was.
Everyone loves to hate a 7 too. Richie learnt to thrive off it , playing the game to the legal edge . Truly is the GOAT!
I don't think anyone doubts that Richie is the best openside in history, unless they are muppets or Soccer supporters, but to call him the greatest player ever will inevitably raise the hackles of huge numbers, and rightly so IMO..
Richie McCaw is a true hero especially for New Zealand Rugby
Richie McCaw is unquestionably the greatest flanker of all time. I love watching him play.
The best of all time for me; taking into account the differences between the old amateur and modern game, is still Gareth Edwards.
But I am nit-picking between two greats who have emmensly enriched the game and I have enjoyed seeing play.
This is well made but I wish these tribute videos would show more than just scoring trys. Richie is So much more than that
you're right... they didn't even get all the times that he cheated...
Richie McCaw is incredible. I feel privileged to have watched him in my life time.
I am a huge fan of Richie Mccaw he is my favourite player and he inspires me to be a better flank
Gareth Edwards?
Garth Edwards got nothing on RICHIE macaw
Joseff Terry-Brown who.?
I totally agree and i am a aucklander. No one will come close to what Richie can do on the field for 80mins. best player i have seen in my life time!
Richie is is a great play but i reckon campo would give him a run
You just have to respect this guy no matter who you support. Greatest no 7 in the world.
Greatest player ever.
My best rugby player of all time he constantly worked on his game throughout his entire career and honed his skillset with the ever evolving game. Miss watching him play so bad , haven't missed one of his professional games , sooooo goooooof!
I only can say: What a player!

The Greatest rugby player EVER. The only player to win Three times International player of the year
Richie mccaw spends his time offside
@harrykelly CARE MUCH!!!
@Tony And Man Of The Match in his first Test.
Didn't Carter win 3 too?,and Barrett will probably get 3 or more before he retires as well.Ironically they're all from NZ too which says something.
Probably should have 5 he was that good, I'm not joking either
Gotta respect this guy for aaaaalll the years and still going, playing rugby for New Zealand. A true legend along with Dan Carter, Jonah Lomu, Tana Umaga, and the rest of the All Blacks !!!!

Best of the best!
I want to be like him one day. Even though I'm a 5'6 Filipino.
He is a brilliant player, a good flanker knows how to thread the rules and push them as far as he can, refs are starting to watch him now though, but you cant dispute he is probably the greatest player of a generation. Michael Hooper is only young though, I expect he may achieve the same status....
Lets just go ahead and call him the greatest foward of all time!!!
Richie is a warrior. He fights to end and never gives up hope. If he gets put down, hell, he gets back up, and he soldiers on, and on, and on. History will remember him as an icon, a leader and a true believer in himself and those who support him, and whom he supports.
Hes tough, tougher than any other flanker on the earth

greatest flanker of all TIME!❤😃🎸🏉🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Just a humble pakeha boy from a lil rural town in nz made it to the world stage and became the greatest awesome bro chur
Richie is the best Flanker of all time, but Sam Kane is up and coming that's for sure, what Richie does well is plays to the whistle, he tests the ref like any good player should, puts his body on the line and never gives in.

very well said. it will be a day of mourning when he retires but exciting to see someone take the mantle. Ardie looks good, as does Cane
@Generaal700600 but noone can argue about his dedication, passion and sheer genius when it comes to playing rugby! awesome player!
The perfect combination of power, wit and experience.
Legend!
THE GREATEST....and im a chiefs fan.
Passion! -->1:26 - 1:31
Sums him up perfectly. Well said.
you are right , someone has to do a video with all his abilities , to show everyone why he is the best flanker in the world, why he is an awesome player,
The greatest player, greatest captain of the greatest team in the greatest era of rugby. For so long against the very best in the hardest position. He is easily the GOAT.
Great player !! Nice vid :)
Not the biggest, strongest, fastest or most skillful. But he is the most determined, most inspirational, most mental and you can guarantee he would never give up on anything.
Not the biggest, not the fastest, not the strongest but still the best player of all time!

How can you make a mccaw tribute without including highlights of the work he's contributed at the breakdown
Exceptionally exceptional :)
4 years before he retired he was already considered the GOAT
what characteristics make a good flanker?
I'm a South African and I agree - greatest flanker of all time!
the man. enuf said
Richie is BACK!! Bledisloe this Saturday. YES YES YES!!!!
This dude always showed up.
If a building fell on top of him, he would be swinging.
What is the music in the background?
Mcaaw= 3 time irb player of the year, lions tour winner, 5 time super rugby champion, countless bledislode and tri nation champs, best winning record, world cup winning captain defined the way a number 7 should play the game, there hasn't been a more influential player than Mccaw ever.
What do u reckon to that south African flanker? 26 yrs old I forget his name. Who do u reckon is better
To people calling him a cheat. Richie is the best in the world at playing to the limit of the rules. Remember it's not foul play if the Ref doesn't call it.
Thanks for the great video. Does anyone know the song?
Truly, greatest flanker indeed of all time and the only Captain to lift the WC twice.
Actually Dan Carter has lifted it twice.
he says CAPTAIN you bitch
The greatest player of the modern game. Although it's not these tries he scored that got him that label. It's his absolute dominance off the ball, around the ruck and being the toughest man i've seen play in that area. I'll admit it's a little hard to show that on a highlights reel :)

Not the biggest, not the strongest, no the fastest, but the greatest. Richie the All Black legend and captain.
Still goes hard
Richie McCaw was a great player! There are other great flankers out there today!
the ultimate master of taking advantage of his status... no doubts
congragulations to new zealand for reaching the final of rugby world cup 2015
Macaw is the best even though he is retired he's still the best FLANKER!!!!
I love playing as a flanker when playing rugby.
so when someone falls and people go over to him and give him a hug and congradulates him makes you think he sucks
The name of the song ??
cheers
hey, can anybody please tell me the song??
yes, yes he is
@snickerscrunchers do you expect jonha lomu
Absolutely bulletproof with the biggest engine and never say die ...with passion ... I'd say Colin Meads was up there for number one - he played forever in the time when you didn't survive without being bulletproof in the true sense of the word...more mongrel with skill .. but Ritchie, wow ..he da man.. ...

Should've shown more of his turnovers and defensive work
As a proud welshman, i have to say richie mcaw is the greatest player of all time, he is the prime example of a number 7, we have sam warburton, but he has a long way to go to reach mcaw's ability...........
THE MASTER AT WORK
the theater, the dream, Richie McCaw!
What a great player
@Generaal700600 then who would you say is a great player? or better than richie? and give an explanation why?
song name?
I can't find a better player than him, in the history of the game. In terms how many rules there are in the modern game, how many games players are expected to play in a calendar year, and how much fitter they need to be in order to stay at the top level. I really don't know how you would quantify the difference between the modern game and say two or three decades ago but it's plane to see that if you were to put Richie in the game twenty years ago or today he would own the game.
Rispetto assoluto Campione. 👏
