  • Take a journey with me on this adventure while I explore around this area of the Alafia River Corridor where I saw some of the old phosphate mining history. It was a big industry here long ago and still is throughout Florida. Nature has reclaimed these lands and there are lots of trails and beautiful places to roam. Only some traces from the past remain today.

As a young man I used to spend a lot of time exploring Florida wildlands. I never went alone for safety reasons and usually traveled with an older experience mentor. Not at 75 I am enjoying traveling with you to places I did not visit. Thanks.

I truly love Florida. I've lived all over the US & Europe... Nothing compares to my birth state. Ur vids are a celebration of her beauty.

IN THE END, IT IS NOT THE DEVASTATION OF MINING THAT AFFECTS
FLORIDA AS MUCH AS THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE DAILY POURING
INTO THE STATE. SOON OVERCROWDING WILL REDUCE FLORIDA TO
      A FAR LESS DESIRABLE PLACE.

I'm a commercial builder and those concrete pillars would have been the foundations for a large conveyor system. They would have had steel beams bolted to the top of them to elevate the conveyor system to move the raw gypsum to the grinding plant. That ground gypsum would have been loaded into train cars or truck to be taken to a Gyp Stack (lake of acid) to separate the phosphate from the gypsum. Thanks for what you do.

As a snowboard who lives Florida, I have so much to learn. What does Jasmine look like, also I not even sure what a Cyprus tree is. And it baffles me about the Spanish moss, it seems to kill certain trees. Yet there is little or no containment of it.

Like the sawmills of the past, it appears the company stripped the environment and left.

That is pre-stressed concrete. It is used in bridges and roads. My guess is they had a rail system leading out of there. The trail you take to get into this complex is wide and makes me think it was part of the rail system. Very harsh conditions back then.

The orange seeds are often distributed by wild hogs who ate the ripe fruit.

This is so interesting! I live in the area and just discovered your channel. Excellent stuff!
Have you ever found anything that could be considered megalithic? Or rocks with petroglyphs on them?

I haven't seen any in Florida yet but am searching for those kinds of sites, thanks for watching!

Florida Trailblazer Whoa! I’ve never heard of this site. Thanks for sharing! Looks similar to the markings on the Judaculla rock. Check out the legend of the moon eyed people just north of this area in Murphy, NC.

Florida Trailblazer I have a theory as to why these sites aren’t found South of north Georgia. I was flying over the west coast of FL recently and there’s an obvious pattern of massive, swift water movement on the bottom of the ocean. Also, if you look at Northern Africa, you see the same pattern in the sand. It’s obvious a deluge occurred long ago and I feel it was due to a pole shift.
Anyway, I think this deluge washed away any of these artifacts in Florida except for those embedded into bedrock, such as the Miami Circle.

Check this out If you pause from 4:55 to 4:58 look up at that one column that's at the top leaning over almost pointing at you & the rock below it that's holding it well under both them is an opening that you can see thru - except theres some 'thing' blocking it , see the greyish form 4:57 is the best shot of it, a mans face looking see ? Thanks
