BÖHLER's Nickname for S390 are "The decathlete". It's a fantastic steel, with lots of tungsten and cobalt and almost 5% Vanadium. It's a great steel that we usually only see in customs. I love this knife already and steel has held up great for the days I had the knife. Kunwu absolutely dominating when it comes to the important bits. There is no direct comparison but it's in the range with T15, but also not really. not Stainless.
@@jkurtzz You can oil it. DLC offers protection. But for the stonewashed version, it could be good to oil once in a while. But should not be too bad and build a nice patina over time.
Thanks for introducing the Gringo 👍 🙂 The Honeydew texture on the handle is also available on the S Tao II. The S390 is a tool steel, the data is very interesting, high wear resistance, high hardenability and still good toughness. The DLC finish looks great, I have the Gringo Honeydew Full DLC right at the top of my list 😅
S390 has been out for a while. It's on ZKnives. Custom makers have been making knives with it for quite a while. I have a custom fixed blade in it at 69-70hrc. It's a tool steel and it's in the Z-max and Maxamet league. High hardness, carbide volume and wear resistance and low corrosion resistance and toughness.
YES! I was waiting to hear your take on these. I love mine. Purchased it the day you posted about it's availability. Got mine a week ago. Love it so far, and am curious to see how long the edge lasts, and how it is to sharpen, when it comes time for that. From some quick research on S390, it's supposed Maxamet-level edge retaining steel, and is NOT corrosion resistant, so I opted for the DLC model, and because I just like Kunwu's DLC. I thought this knife had some Shaman lines on it, mainly on the handle. They're both very comfortable. The Gringo handle fits my hand very nicely.
You mention you have never seen this texture on a Kunwu knife before. Isn’t this texture the same as the S-Tao II in full DLC you reviewed before? The “honey dew” texture.
Looking forward to getting mine and testing the s390. Recently landed on US soil after the typical 10 day voyage on Kunwu's slow boat from China. Hoping the clip will work better on the slipperier DLC version.
I saw this the last time I was fantasizing about the different Kunwu knives that I would love to have but am too broke bish to buy. COUGH*metal complex*COUGH. Sorry little dust in my throat. This thing looks awesome. Just add it to my list. 😂
I went for the stonewash to match another kunwu I got the dlc is cool just depends on the knife design for me I thought the stonewash looked better for this one but it’s a dope knife either way
I don't believe the harpoon is utilized enough by designers however, for me astetically, if the harpoon was 1/3 -1/2 shorter on the gringo, it would be a must have. Close, but not for me. The honeydew dlc texture is really cool though.
@@StoneHands25 All good, bother. To each their own. To me that harpoon point looks all kinds of sexy. That said, I'd want something slicer for that tough a steel. I also hope that we see more designs with that steel.
Tougher at higher HRC? I doubt about it. If S390 is a bit tougher it also means that it's probably less wear resistant which correlates with lower hardness and vice versa.
S390 in custom heat treats is absolutely a top performing steel in production heat treats I can't say as I've never had a production knife in it. I have two pieces from KKnives in S390 and the performance is world class.
And by "carried" you mean take pictures for the internet and then put it back in a box.... Kunwu is a brand for the low-T soft-handed perpetually online soy boys.
Theres no reason for kunwu to use steels like this when they're putting out grinds that are 25 thou BTE. This is an amazing steel with tons of potential, unfortunately the "gotta catch em all" crowd doesn't care about actual performance.
Na. Disagree completely. You go too thin and the edge chips. Thinner can certainly optimize performance circumstantially, but the BTE is fine all things considered.
Off the topic, but has anybody bought from maxace? Had to pay thru PayPal which is OK, but over a week in and no email verification of my order and PayPal has no tracking progress yet. Hopefully I'm just worried because where it's coming from and need patience.
Hey MC, love your videos and you’ve cost me a lot of money wanting to buy more knives 😂. With the Remette Peregrine Falcon being my cherry on top of my small collection. These Kunwu’s are gorgeous 🤩 I’ve got a request for you though: could you maybe also mention metric dimensions and weight? I know there are a lot of Europeans here 🇳🇱👋🏻 Thanks a lot for the interesting vids as always and happy holidays!
S390 is a steel id really like to try but from kunwu i had to pass. That knife is ugly and the blade stock and geometry of the knife does no favors for the use of s390.
Too bad its a trash frame-lock and looks like a gas station knife... but yeah, "cool new steel... must buy it and take pictures of it for the internet then put it in a box cause I never actually use my knives."

It is also not a new steel
Not stainless? You oil it to keep it sturdy?

I call this texture Tactical Cantaloupe.
If anyone is interested, Cedric and Ada tested S390 a few years ago on their channel.
Kunwu is my favorite manufacturer and oem. They killed it this year🎉
Oooo, s390 intrigues me. Not in love with this model, but hopefully they do some other runs in s390
They will.
It is announced by Sergio 😉
Now THAT is a square card slap!!! That sucker is 1,000% perfectly squared to the screen. Well done sir!

As soon as i saw s390 i said out loud "oh no...." Because I already have a long ass list of knives to acquire 😂
s390 is kind of like k390 in terms of composition. but more cobalt than vanadium.

The texturing looks exactly like tripe. Exactly.

LIAR! I say!
I think you're right. After I read honey dew, it clicked

I got mine on order right now! Been waiting for this video to drop 🤘
Nice knife and appreciate the extensive milling. With all that said it looks like the handle caught Covid
I love Kunwu knives and the Gringo looks spectacular 😁
That all grey looks sick and absolutely love that honeydew pattern!
I have a custom in s390 and I've had it for 2 to 2.5 years. It's not new but it is new for production stuff at least I've never seen it used.
Holy crap. You actually compared this to a lot of the knives I own. You should really use the Vision FG more. Just about everyone here owns one.
Love how giddy you get in every video.
It's the three Red Bulls coming out.
i can’t get enough of my gringo!!!!! i freaking love itttt!!
Kunwu is my next purchase. Love their knives.
Sheeeeet u buying the company kunwu as your next purchase?! I can only afford to buy kunwu knives 😜
I saw this the last time I was fantasizing about the different Kunwu knives that I would love to have but am too broke bish to buy. COUGH*metal complex*COUGH. Sorry little dust in my throat. This thing looks awesome. Just add it to my list. 😂
Thanks
That knife would make a GREAT skinner folder
Texture looks like grapefruit peel rather than orange peel. Pretty damn cool.
Wish they would do regular non Timascas pivot collars or include them
Harpoon/Shovel blade, lol.
Yeah, good description... I describe it as something i want... Steel Schmeel,, thats a great design.
Reversible clip yes. Just wish it was smaller.
What was that app you mentioned?
Damn. Still waiting for my shaman pre-order.
That handle texture looking like venom skin.
That texture really reminds me of a cantaloupe tbh!
Did you say you had that pocket clip on the Excalibur? I thought Kunwu told me that they wouldn’t work on my prototype.
Looks like the SHA-men and Stich had a love child.
Whew!!!! That sure is purty!!!
I went for the stonewash to match another kunwu I got the dlc is cool just depends on the knife design for me I thought the stonewash looked better for this one but it’s a dope knife either way
So is the grain structure of the S finer than the K? Because I love the K. Time to do some research
Everyone loves that special K
Dunno, but we'll find out!
Still ranting about the unboxing thing…..😢😭😭😭
This knife reminds me of a folding army shovel….
Does it come in O.D. Green???
I don't believe the harpoon is utilized enough by designers however, for me astetically, if the harpoon was 1/3 -1/2 shorter on the gringo, it would be a must have. Close, but not for me. The honeydew dlc texture is really cool though.
And from my understanding s390 super edge retentive and tough. Not actually stainless. Why i picked up all DLC one haha
As nice as this knife is, i want my knife journey to end. Will be getting the the Kunwu Excalibur.
It's like k390, but tougher at high hrc.
Using that with Kunwu's DLC sounds like a match made in heaven
@johannessmith1369 yeah, sadly I not like the design. Hope they use it also for different models.
@@wesleysnider2915hopefully they use this steel on an S tao 2

Commas. Use commas.
9.5 slap 👍
Is it a top flipper? Looks like it might be but MC didn't try it
Gringo vs Excalibur…. FIGHT!
I heard it is a close comparison to maxamet.
Has same texture as the all dlc s tao 2??
Maybe size comparison other kunwu. I know you got one
Ba ba banger alert! 🚨 🔥💯💪🏽
Love Kunwu. My most carried knife brand by far
And by "carried" you mean take pictures for the internet and then put it back in a box.... Kunwu is a brand for the low-T soft-handed perpetually online soy boys.
You literally own a kunwu with this same handle texture..
I know 😂 he cracks me up sometimes
10 on the slap
MC, it’s “indentations” not “intentions”
One better than S389.
Trade swap the blades??👀
Nice knife. I am not a fan of that blade shape tho. Big and bulky that doesnt appeal for edc. Personal taste ofc.
Harpoon shovel😅

I have. The radio silence is totally normal. Took a month before I was notified of anything.
Ok. Thanks. How long did it take to actually recieve the knife?
@ about 4-5 weeks
Maybe save people some time. It is not corrosion resistant.
Harpoon+shovel=?
Harpvel?
Harshovel?
Poonvel?
Also kunwu just curious why if you have dedicated righty/lefty models why have the option for reversing the clip?
S390 is comparable to T15.
high edge retention , low corrosion resistance , low toughness ..... i have seen no direct comparison.
Nice scales. The blade looks bulky, not appealing for my taste. Great performing steel, I'll be waiting to see other blade shapes using this steel

Not a new steel. At least been out 20 years.
It’s ok to be poor
